Elina Garanca wurde 1976 in Riga als Kind in eine musikalische Familie geboren. Ab 1996 studierte sie an der Lettischen Musikakademie in ihrer Heimatstadt. Großes Aufsehen erregte sie mit ihren Erfolgen beim Internationalen Mirjam Helin-Gesangswettbewerb 1999 und beim BBC's Cardiff Singer of the World 2001. Nach Stationen in Meiningen und Frankfurt wurde sie 2003 als Ensemblemitglied an die Wiener Staatsoper engagiert, wo sie in zahlreichen Partien wie u. a. Orlofsky (Fledermaus), Octavian (Rosenkavalier), Cherubino (Nozze di Figaro), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Rosina (Barbiere di Siviglia), Nicklausse (Contes d'Hoffmann) und Bersi (Andrea Chénier), Adalgisa (Norma) sowie in Neuproduktionen als Charlotte in Werther und als Meg Page in Falstaff zu hören war. Ihre steile internationale Karriere führte sie bald an alle wichtigen Musikzentren, Opern- und Konzerthäuser. So singt sie unter anderem an der New Yorker Met, dem ROH Covent Garden, bei den Salzburger Festspielen, im Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, im Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, in Tokio, an der Bayerischen Staatsoper München, in Aix-en-Provence, Luzern, Berlin, Riga.

great singer and charming woman
Never ceases to amaze me, a wonderful singer and stage artist too. Beautiful to listen to and look at, I am fast becoming an ardent fan.
I love to know anything about the beautiful, gorgeous Elina Garanca and thank you for the English sub titles. She is one of a kind.
Indeed, she is a phenomenal...phenomenon! I also am trying to find out more about this extraordinarily-talented lady, who seems unafraid of anything. Elina has a character that is indefatigable, yet still has that zest for life that so many of us lack, myself included...but I do have an excuse. And her friendship with that other superlative soprano, Anna Netrebko, makes so much sense when their personalities are taken into account. Not only are they supremely well-matched artistically, but their outlook on life seems to be similar. Such amazing vocal talent, such physical beauty...They were obviously at the front of the queue when beauty, brains and skills were being gifted to humankind...Unfortunately, I was somewhere near the back. But I did get eyes and ears, so I shouldn't really complain....
