So you hopped on the Gojira train. This is gonna be a fast and heavy one. It slaps and it rewards. The lyrics of this band is what sealed it, they are just so great at saying important things. The art of dying is living. Check out Explosia, Silvera, The heaviest matter of the universe (the greatest lyric ever), Pray (live @ red rock), Where dragons dwell (live at hellfest), From the sky, etc, etc
Oh man, if you love drums, you almost CANNOT go wrong with either Gojira, or their “The Way of All Flesh” album. Mario Duplantier does some incredible stuff in their albums; I would totally check out “Esoteric Surgery” next, as that not only some killer riffs, but moments where Mario goes absolutely nuts on the drums 😁
I always loved how the outro in The Art of Dying is the main riff of Esoteric Surgery, but played in reverse and simplified. It's so beautiful and eerie at the same time.
finally some Gojira, one of the best metal band of the last decades , with outstanding performances live ! you chose an agressive one for the first reaction but it's a great track .they have a wild range of songs since they started as a death metal band 20+ years ago and became more progressive as they got older ,i would suggest to go chonogically with them to see their evolution. Glad you mentioned this one, because it was the first song my friend sent to me to introduce Gojira. It took me some time to warm up, but it started my journey and Gojira has become a very important part of me.
Man...this is kinda a gnarly first gojira song...I love it, but I would have chosen, say, the video for "Born for one thing"...or "pray" at red rocks...but here we go!! This will be interesting...
*waving arms* here! i support this! Very much! One of the most fun and interesting guitar riffs ... guitar everything, the whole song, one of the most fun songs guitar wise i have heard in a long while. I am not aware of anything that sounds quite like it. And great drums, i mean, it's Mario Duplantier, it's always great drumming when he does it. And it has at least some melody to it. I can't with this kind of mess like the art of dying here.
Hey...if you look on my channel, the last video I uploaded is from that concert here in Manchester July 2019.. I think it's silvera.. It's worth a watch if you have a spare moment..or the machine head video from the Manchester academy is insane.. Don't forget to look up James hetfield being a GOJIRA fan boy... Hang on I'll find it for you.
I love Gojira so much. One of the heaviest bands in the world and their songs are about environmentalism and the human condition. My favorite song of theirs is Vacuity, which is about coming to terms with your mortality. Off their newest album that came out last year, Amazonia is just an amazing song. ... heck, just pick any song off their discography to react to, really. They're one of the few bands that I can honestly say have never made a bad song.
Some fun facts about Gojira is that they are all Vegetarians (now fully vegan I think?) and strongly concerned environmentalists, and while they aren't about religion at all they are very spiritual in a lot of their lyrics and a plenty of their songs talk about outer body experiences or astral travels. They started as fully Death metal back in the days and as albums and the years go they're getting more and more progressive (with cleaner singing) yet still as hard as ever and with their style intact. From a Singer's perspective on the vocal side, their live studio rendition of "Global warming" might be more interesting, as it gives an idea of how Joe sings and the way he screams. I'd say for an introduction to the band any album that starts from "L'enfant sauvage" to their most recent one would make for a solid intro and ease you into the band. Art of dying and the whole album are amazing as well, but it may be a lot to take in for a first time listening to the band !
Great intro comment to Gojira. You’re definitely spot on that the latter albums are more accessible than their earlier stuff. Personally, if you already enjoy death metal, I’d still start with From Mars to Sirius as it really captures the earlier and newer sounds in one album.
i got into them via listening to their discog from start to finish and experiencing the evolutions in their sound first hand is fucking wild... terra incognita is p much death metal but something happened between ti and the link that completely changed their sound and it's so cool tldr: id 100% recommend listening to the albums in order but if you don't want to obvs that's fine :3
The way their sound evolved is something to behold, amazing band, probably one of the best metal bands for the last 10/15 years. I would recommend "Flying whales", "L'enfant sauvage", "The gift of guilt", "Silvera", "Stranded", damn, just listen to all :D
Mario is one of the best drummers in the game right now. Joe (vocals) and Mario are brothers. They're massive environmentalists. All of this has probably been mentioned but I didn't read comments, I'm just pumped because I'm seeing Gojira and Deftones in less than a week 😁
Follow up, concert was last night and Gojira blew the roof off. But you should check out Deftones if you don't know them. This comment probably won't get backed by likes but just keep them in mind. Some underrated suggestions - Beauty School, Passenger (ft. Maynard of Tool), Prince, Genesis, Rapture.
Gojira is one of my favorite bands of all-time. Mario Duplantier is also my favorite drummer of all-time, being a drummer. This song is probably at the top of my list for drumming masterpieces. You can't go wrong listening to Gojira. They don't have one bad album.
I have been a metalhead for the last 25 years and have to say that Gojira is the most enjoyable/deep/powerful/inspirational/talented metal band out there. Mario Duplantier is the best metal drummer imo.. Please check out their music video 'Amazonia' .. They started a major fundraiser to save the Amazon forest and the indigenous tribes .. Same energy like Bloodywood.. Metal with a cause.
My favorite Gojira songs, is The gift of guilt, and Leénfant Savauge, those 2 songs i got on my playlist of favorite metal songs..I belive their drummer, well forgot name.. won several best metal drummer awards.. so if you like good drummers, he surely is one..
Gojira?! Ahh yeah, she'll love this 😂. Flying Whale's, Heaviest Matter of the Universe, Silvera..can't go wrong with Gojira. God like drummer, amazing fucking band.
You're in for a journey with Gojira's lyrics as well. They actually have their own "Wings for Marie" type of song, dedicated to the drummer's and singer's mother, called Lowlands. Really beautiful song with an amazing video as well.
This is the first time I've seen your channel and I stopped scrolling to watch this video because it's my favorite Gojira song and was interested to hear a first time reaction to it. The first time I heard it I was blown away...and that 3rd transition at the end that the song fades out on...I can't even begin to describe the sensation that riff instilled in my brainpan. This band is incredible and their stuff is so thought out and thought provoking ( to me at least)....last thing I'll say about this, besides great job on the reaction and that I'll definitely be checking out more reactions on your channel, is if you have the chance go see these guys live when they come around to your neck of the woods, go do it. Do not wait. You will not be disappointed. They are just as brutal, more actually, seeing them live, than they are just listening to their records. Great job and keep up the good work! \m/
I haven't really immersed myself in Gojira but I definitely like them. The first song I heard was "Flying Whales" and it scratched the itch I was feeling for something just badass and undeniably heavy. If I would use a metaphor to describe their sound, it's like watching a volcano eruption that just doesn't end. Pure, constant power.
Instead of recommending my favourite songs, I'll just recommend that you give them all a listen. Great band and I love almost every song they have! Some songs take a few listens to like though.
Oh My Aileen! I'm so excited, that you are starting to react to Gojira. Two of my favorites are "Gift of Guilt" and "The heaviest matter of the universe " Another great reaction. ❤🤘
Just gonna join the choir of people praising their live shows! I've only seen them live once, but it was one of the most incredible and intense concerts I've ever been to! If you ever get the chance to see them live, take it! Also, you mentioned you love drums... Mario has made several videos with absolutely insane drum solos, please check them out!
I've seen Gojira a bunch of times live and they rock. Hard. Lots of energy. Especially the drummer. Dude is crazy good. They're also great people, very engaged in environmental causes.
If you like drums, you must listen to Leprous also, maybe a live performance. Baard Kolstad is pure talent, he's got a different style from Gojira's magnificent drummer, but equally incredible, really! His ghost notes are magic
I remember seeing baard kolstad live in one of his other projects "kickslip", he REALLY shined there. I'm a drummer myself so naturally all my attention was directed at him. The dude broke 10 sets of sticks in one show! He hits hard as hell
I just want to highlight the lyrics, "Neglected emotions lead to / Catastrophic voyage on the other side". It's so powerful to talk about seeking balance, atonement, and peace while living... in a song called The Art of Dying... Additionally @ 15:53 where you read through and discuss some lyrics - The "I'm of this kind that kills all day but don't yet know how to die" he's definitely talking about humanity - our humanity, what it is to be human. We consume and compromise a lot of our environment to fulfill our needs ("of this kind that kills all day"), but our *human* culture can be so different and divided with many different belief systems and cultures that we don't even agree on what passing on even is. "don't yet know how to die" probably means to touch on that lack of balance and unity, our lack of "human culture" that respects our place in the natural ecosystem. Perhaps it even alludes to the literal - we fill them with preservatives and hide our bodies in boxes to prevent their natural return to the earth, or we burn them to ash, giving nothing back. ...The overall idea that we take so much, and *give so little back* to her.
If you want to check out more Gojira, Joe Duplantier (singer) as a really interesting technique in The Way of All Flesh, I suggest the shorter version as the longer version is filled with silence
Loving your channel! Just to see your reaction to songs I already know or discovering new ones listening to them for the very first time with someone else "at the same time". :)
Born in Winter has to be one of my favourite songs of all time. It has a completely different vibe to the rest of Gojira's stuff, but somehow it is still just as good, if not better, along with beautiful and technical instrumentals. Highly recommend
My favorite songs from them (many of which are their most popular) are this one, Flying Whales, Heaviest Matter of the Universe, Silvera, Toxic Garbage Island, Remembrance, and Yama's Messengers. I constantly listen to these on repeat on my playlist.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this, I will admit this one starts off sorta “scary” for a newcomer…lol But you were hooked from the very beginning anyways xD You should definitely check out a live performance next! Gojira at Red Rocks - PRAY (extended version) LIVE
Good to see you enjoying them so much. This song got me hooked up on Gojira long time ago. Loving them since. Gojira always gets me with their music and meaning of their songs. Glad to see you getting thats also. And I just love to see you smile. You have such a beautiful smile. Keep smiling and listening to Gojira😉
Just found your channel today and have been binging your videos. Have just come from some emotionally charged Korn tracks. Really dig your authenticity with everything and interpretations. For Gojira, check out their track Amazonia. As a fellow recent discoverer of Gojira, that was the first song of theirs I heard and was immediately hooked. Incredible riff and the song tells a very important story of the Amazon.
Beneath that outro riff, soo understated yet one of the most satisfying aspects of the song, is that bass melody. But yeah this song is a standout drumming masterpiece.
The drummer, Mario Duplantier, is one of the best metal drummers out there. He got voted "best drummer 2017" by Loudwire and over all 4 times the best in the scene. So yeah, he is quiet a treat to listn to.
Saw Gojira live for the first time when they were touring with Slipknot in 2019 and they have my favourite band of all time! Please continue down the rabbit hole of this band because they are something special!
So glad your discovering Gojira right now. They are one of a kind. First time I heard them I was moved, a bit emotional. Maybe because the heavy, agressive style is on such a complex, high level. The drummer/percussionist is considered to be one of the best. He is something else. Live they are brilliant. My favorite: "The Axe" live at Brixton, a stunner in every way.
I always looked at this song as a frantic confusing jumbled life that as time goes on gets "figured out" and smooths and finds some order leading to the outro of the feel of a long road into the horizon leading to the unknown. Like the subject of the song finally mastered the Art Of Dying.
Absolutely one of my favorite bands Being that your a drum fan you won't be disappointed with Gojira even got to meet them at a local show You must check out Flying Whales one if the first songs I heard from them the first being To Sirius
Yes! Thank you so much please start bingeing Gojira songs! They are from France too which is cool. They are even better live (somehow). And each song is very different. Please check Prey (live at red rocks) you will love it. Please go down their rabbit hole they’ll suck you in.
Also besides Stranded, there's L'enfant Sauvage, Flying Whales, Born in Winter, Born for One thing, The gift of Guilt, and Another World are some of my favorites.
I just subscribed, i like that you actually understand the music! You should listen to "'born in winter'' its a softer song by them but still very melodic
One thing that feels integral to the Gojira character that also feels surprisingly rare in modern metal is that they just let the song play out to the end. So many Gojira jams let the instruments just GO and carry us into a fadeout before building us back up with the next song. There's just something so satisfying about the band and audience getting the opportunity to GROOVE before it's over.
So happy you're diving into the Proggy side of metal. Love these guys. You may also wanna check out Between the Buried and Me. I recommend "Extremophile Elite" as it really shows ther musical diversity and mastery. Blake Richardson is a criminally underrated drummer. Especially you like diverse and longer songs.
Currently on a binge of this channel, on the point of loving drums, I highly recommend the Black Metal band MGLA, the way Darkside drums is just indescribable, especially love how they use their cymbals. If I were to recommend something from them specifically, I'd go with Exercises in Futility IV.
Ahh a beauty from France. More of this please! And maybe some point some Mors Principium Est - Pure (Re-recorded) version is kinda my song of the year propably or My Home My Grave. Another one is Lorna Shore - And I Return to Nothingness 🤔 Greetings from Finland
Gojira is another incredible band!! They are amazing live. I’ve seen them a few times. I wish they would tour with Meshuggah one day though. What an epic show that would be! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥🔥☺️😉😊👍🏽🙌🏽
FIrst video I've watched of you and already a huge fan, loved the commentary, loved your presentation, and love your artistic spirit. Loved the video, definitely gonna drop by the stream.
Honestly there are very few bands that I can say if you blindly picked a track out of their entire discography, chances are it will be a banger and for me Gojira is one of those bands. Too many amazing songs to choose from.
Where Dragons Dwell live in Hellfest 2013 is a bombardment of a performance by Gojira, highly suggest this especially to showcase Marios double bass for 4 minutes straight👌
That last riff is the definition of "let it ride". I was so excited to catch this when you said a couple days on stream that you reacted to this. One of my favorite songs by them too! I'd say the next songs by them to react to are Flying Whales and Heaviest Matter of the Universe (very heavy, very dirty). Catch you in the next one Aileen!
Aileen, this was an excellent first choice! Get a few more Gojira songs under your belt (the good people commenting here will doubt offer many) and then watch Pray live at Red Rocks for one of the greatest extended jams ever recorded. Their live stuff is always good, if not better than, the studio work but Pray is extra special.
Aileen, the past year has been hard. I dont ask because I want you to. I ask as someone that can bring a smile to my face. As you have seen I have been apart of your Tool reactions. This song is so emotional after my brother in law and and my sister. Queen Bohemian Rapshioy. Just life is lost. Thanks for your Tool reactions. The Grudge or Virvarios. Im so lost, thank you
Wow people have good taste if this is the first they're asking for. What a banger. Though that goes for anything on 'the way of all flesh'. 10/10 album
Gojira is very good band and they french... If you want a beautiful song and emotional for them, listen stranded, they wrote this song when Joe and Mario were losing their mother during the writing process. Joe is writing about his pain and helplessness.
So you hopped on the Gojira train. This is gonna be a fast and heavy one. It slaps and it rewards. The lyrics of this band is what sealed it, they are just so great at saying important things. I second the heavirst matter of the universe
I second these as well, especially Pray (live at Red Rocks), and will add the epic Flying Whales
@@bassmasters123 Man, I can't wait for this reaction!!

Silvera and The Heaviest Matter of the Universe are like the Will Smith of metal songs, they slap you in the face without warning.

Joe screaming Art of Dying in that final verse gives me chills every time.

The evolution in their music is so good and they never stop sounding like themselves. One of the best metal bands today.

If you want to check out more Gojira, Joe Duplantier (singer) as a really interesting technique in The Way of All Flesh, I suggest the shorter version as the longer version is filled with silence
the Live version of this song of 2009 features some super cool throat singing from Joe, its amazing
I feel like the title song is overlooked a lot. It is my absolute favorite on the album for sure.
This is my absolute favourite channel on youtube . You made my day again
Gojira - The Gift of Guilt, live @ Brixton Academy. That's a stunning live performance.
I agree, Gojira- The Gift of Guilt (Live at Brixton) is one of most powerful live performances I’ve ever seen!
I see them next week. It is like church. They take you somewhere you have never been but know you were always meant to be there. The best.
Ooh finally some French metal ! Let’s goooo 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Not speaking wise wich is sad.
The lyrics to the song From The Sky are some of my fav Gojira lyrics. It’s a masterpiece. Love this band.
Absolutely one of my favorite bands
Being that your a drum fan you won't be disappointed with Gojira
even got to meet them at a local show
You must check out Flying Whales
one if the first songs I heard from them the first being To Sirius
Gojira - Flying whales please, this song is like Master of puppets for Metallica:)
Yes! Thank you so much please start bingeing Gojira songs!
They are from France too which is cool.
They are even better live (somehow). And each song is very different.
Please check Prey (live at red rocks) you will love it. Please go down their rabbit hole they’ll suck you in.
oh yesssss... finally gojira! one of my all time favourit bands + one of the best songs of them! thanks so much! :D
On a gojira reaction binge, great video. And my God she’s got an amazing smile
Thank you!!
Gosh this song is so god damn perfect
LOVE IT
Also besides Stranded, there's L'enfant Sauvage, Flying Whales, Born in Winter, Born for One thing, The gift of Guilt, and Another World are some of my favorites.
I'm so happy that my two favorite bands, Rammstein and Gojira, have reached your heart ! Greetings from France
Gojira is one of the best. The gift of guilt live brixton academy might be the greatest thing ever recorded
"These riffs man" The Guitars:0000000000000000000000000000000000000
Video of concert in Strasbourg 09. 06. 2016. is the best thing I found on YT ever..
yeah that black and white concert is not well known for some reasons
Where Dragons Dwell live in Hellfest 2013 is a bombardment of a performance by Gojira, highly suggest this especially to showcase Marios double bass for 4 minutes straight👌
That last riff is the definition of "let it ride". I was so excited to catch this when you said a couple days on stream that you reacted to this. One of my favorite songs by them too!
I'd say the next songs by them to react to are Flying Whales and Heaviest Matter of the Universe (very heavy, very dirty).
Catch you in the next one Aileen!
Please keep the Gojira ride going! Their sound and talent is so diverse its ridiculous. Next should be Pray live at red rocks!!!
2:58 "I'm really digging the drums".....yeah, well we all are! Mario is from another planet where shirts are not required! \m/ haha!
"Stranded" and "Silvera" are a must from them :)
Greatest Band on Earth. Greatest drummer of all time.
This!
Yeah Mario Duplantier is just an incredible drummer, and the way it drives the rythms is both very clever, and very heavy.
Im so lost, thank you
Gojira is just built different. If you like that double bass then Mario is the fricken drummer for you, that man is a drum god
Wow people have good taste if this is the first they're asking for. What a banger. Though that goes for anything on 'the way of all flesh'. 10/10 album
Gojira also on the Mt Rushmore of metal, Art of Dying is a masterpiece
Gojira is the band that all bands listen to. They are second to none live.
Gojira “ The Heaviest Matter of the Universe “ is a must!!! Next please!
Can't go wrong with Gojira top 3 all time for me. A band with something to say and chops to carry the message.
Massive, reality transcending respect for these dudes.. They understand.. They are my absolute second favourite.. Closely following behind Meshuggah..
Gojira is very good band and they french...
If you want a beautiful song and emotional for them, listen stranded, they wrote this song when Joe and Mario were losing their mother during the writing process.
Joe is writing about his pain and helplessness.
Yeah I'm gonna try and make the premiere. I love Gojira!
The outro is the main Esoteric Surgery (next song) riff in reverse, you can listen to it un-reversed on youtube
You gotta check out their performances at brixton academy, explosia, the axe, flying whales, gift of guilt... The guys kick ass.
