    The vintage 30 and greenback used to be my favorite speakers for years, until I got an alnico cream Celestion, and now I rarely use anything else. Very different than the ceramic creamback ones. I will occasionally mix it with a vintage 30, but I agree with your opinion on the greenback. It always sounds like it has more fizz in it to me, whereas the vintage 30 has a more balanced growl. But the Alnico Cream just has the widest dynamic range and pleasing tone to me.

    Euge, I guess it depends on what sound you are going for with these two different speakers because they both sound great, although quite a bit different. If I had to pick a cabinet loaded with only one of these, it would be the Vintage for my taste. One thing that caught my ear in the instrumental you wrote was the fantastic bass line - it's a killer!

    Awesome comparison... old video I know but my 2cents though, don't mic the greenback the same way you mic a typical V30. I find it has a completely different sweet spot almost always. In the room it never sounds harsh to me compared to a smooth V30 like it does in this video.

    This is a very interesting comparison.. both speakers are awesome .. they sounded great blended .. probably the vintage for me by itself but it's a tough choice as they are both very useful.. I have two Marshall 4x12 cabs .. one with g12t 75s and the other with the vintage.. I've never actually compared them separately .. lol .. thanks Euge .. great playing by you .. 🤙.. regards from New Zealand

    Both are awesome in their own flavor. Nolly did a massive comparison of V30s of all kinds. It’s such a unique speaker. I have a pair of Mesa V30s (UK made) with UK GB’s in a Germino cab and it’s my favorite 4x12 right now. I’d love for you to add some UK Mesa V30s and 80/90s UK V30s to this comparison mixture.

    Bruh!! Your English is GREAT!!
    My opinion; the V30 (especially when driven hard) has this upper mid sizzle nasal sound that I just can’t seem to dial out.
    I like the mix tho.
    I really like the EVH12 Celestion (which is like the heritage GB).
    I find it more organic and pushes into distortion nicely.
    I like mixing the SM57 and Cascade Fathead ribbon too!
    Do you have a favourite mic combination?
    Thank you for your wonderful content!🇨🇦

      Blended is the perfect tone. I know a lot gonna disagree. But that tone has a wide range. You can go from the blues and classic rock to eighties evh al the way to modern metal. I love that thump from the greenbacks when you lower the mids and the scream from the vintage when you raise the mids.

    Another great comparison by Euge. Love the tone you get from the greenback. I agree that the tone you get from them is not smooth, it's rather aggressive and, imo, the good kind of nasty. Such a good alternative for the v30. I really like tone you got with the Marshall vintage speaker too, I like that way more than I do the normal v30. Again, great stuff dude.

  • @GuvnaOnSpotify
    @GuvnaOnSpotify 2 года назад +1

    Great comparison, you can clearly hear the differences listening on T7V's. Both are quite different but sound fantastic. The V30 clearly is much more mid focussed, and the Greenback is more rounded but still with a clear mid and top end. I was surprised that the GB had a more defined bottom end, the V30 seems to attenuate those frequencies. The V30 cuts better for the solo in the mix. Listening to the V30 by itself, if you are not in a band or recording with it, would get pretty tiring, and even in a band situation you could EQ the mids on a Greenback to make them pop a bit more.
    That being said, I still like the EVH / Heritage better than the 25w GB personally. The mix you did was awesome - sounds brilliant.

    I own a stock 1960BV. I'm thinking of modding it by swapping one of the speakers with a T-75, and another with a Greenback. I wanna use the V+T75 side for rhythm, and the V+G side for clean & lead. The speakers that I remove will be going into isocabs. The tough part is I can't really test it before buying the speakers. Best I can do is watch videos like these, then try the Two Notes Wall of Sound simulations. Hopefully I don't throw money away 😂

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah and that’s the beauty of different speakers. I don’t think any amp has. Speakers part of the overall sound (if we take out the player) is around 70-80% and I see people changing amps and spending lots of money whereas the solution is usually just a different speaker. And the miking affects the sound a lot too; the sound is drastically different if you use for example dynamic SM57 or a ribbon mic. But in general speaker & cabinet affects the tone much more than an amplifier.

      Direct quote from Celestion: ”There was a period during the early 1970s when occasionally we’d run out of green to make the rear cans for the G12M and G12H speakers. Back then, the significance of the ”green back” wasn’t yet fully realised, so we’d use whatever colour came to hand. At various times we produced the Blackback, the Greyback and sometimes the Creamback. Whatever the colour of the can, physically and tonally the speakers were actually always Greenbacks”.

    The 20 watt heritage Greenback is a much smoother sounding speaker than the standard issue 25 watt Greenback . The 20 watter has more lower mids and less upper mids with a smoother top end compared to the 25 watt greeny .
    The vintage Greenback was a smoother and warmer speaker with woody low mids .
    The Herrtage Greeny is based on the origianl design the mid 60s.
    The modern Greenback G12M25 is voiced differently from a vintage Greenback. Its voiced to be a bit more aggressive and modern with more bite and cut .

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  2 года назад +1

      Amps have usually ohm switch in the back. 16 ohm speakers sound a bit different than 8 ohms but not much. The important thing is that all speakers must have the same ohm in the cab. If you use a 16 ohm cab you set the ohm switch on the amp to 16 etc.

    All Creambacks are made in England . Their production never shifted to China . Their production is and always has been in the UK. There are no Chinese made Creambacks .
    I see people getting ripped off all the time paying a premium for used Creambacks because they think they are made in China and were only made in the U.K for a short time before prodcution shifted to China or that Uk made creambacks are only produced at special request for Amp builders .
    I have seen guys selling Creambacks on Reverb for more money than they cost brand new anf justify it by saying this is a rare made in England Creamback and claiming they were only made in the UK for the first year or so then production shifted to China . Some people dont understand that not every model sifted Production to China .
    Some people thought the whole company moved there and there was no more UK made celestions . Some people were just ripping people off preying on newbies and the less informed ..
    Guys were charging several hundred dollars for a used Creamback . One guy had his listed at 300 dollars U.S and acted like it was a steal because other sellers were charging more .
