    Nice work.
Great to see, So refreshing someone actually repairing and not board swapping.
Ordering parts because it's easier than looking through stock - Man after my own heart :)
    I often do that.
As to incorrect SMD size ordering, I think most of my spare stock was sourced in that way lol

    • @michaeldranfield7140
      @michaeldranfield7140  2 года назад +2

UMC dont supply any parts , not even a new board so repair or used board if you can find one is the only option.
Its not unusual for me to order something I already have because it either takes to long to look or I know I have it but cant remember where I put it !
I need to get more organised but all this takes up time and organizing doesn't make you a living .

I’ve only been watching your channel a few months but I really like your style. I have my own lab in business also but I specialize in test equipment and metrology stuff for industrial folks. Component level stuff and a bit of calibration. I really like how you explain things and friends/clients always seem to be bringing me stuff that isn’t involved with business. Just electronic stuff in their life that breaks like TVs or want me to look at the motor controller or something. So content like yours really helps me because I feel like that’s outside my wheelhouse of understanding. So I learned a lot watching you. I might fix and calibrate a $200,000 oscilloscope for some lab on Monday, but then Tuesday can’t figure out mid 2000’s plasma TV. Your videos have helped a lot with that type of stuff and I enjoy working on it even though it is just usually as a favor or some thing. Sometimes it’s nice to work on things that aren’t so critical and that people actually use every day.

Glad you like the content, I try to cover things other people haven't wherever possible, I do sometimes get stuff I don't usually work with, such as car ecu s, industrial equipment, people seem to think because I'm an electronics engineer I can repair anything.

I think UMC is Vestels biggest competitor but personally I prefer vestel for there better layout , the UMC stuff always looks a bit thrown together and spare boards can be bought for vestel sets , UMC dont supply any parts at all ,but having said that UMC will send you software , where as Vestel will only supply software for a few brands, swings and roundabouts I guess, but what's not that commonly known is vestel is over 25 years old and use to make CRT sets.

I know what your saying and this job would have been a simple run of the mill 15 minute repair if there was a service manual and access to spare parts from the manufacture, but instead I have to trawl the net to see what the chip is , check with 3 different suppliers to find which one has all the parts I need so I can do just one order, then I had to find a similar board to see what the missing resistor was and what value the 0402 resistor was which is so small it has no numbers printed on it , so no, the set wasn't really worth repairing in the current climate but component level fault finding is what I have always done and I still enjoy the challenge !

And the environment says: it’s absolutely worth repairing it. Therein lies the problem -
Manufacturers now mostly produce low-cost devices -
There are only three major manufacturers in CHINA that
manufacture most brands - including various 'House Brand'
devices -- and Service Manuals are near impossible to obtain.
The devices are not designed to last more than 3 or 4 years
and often fail within the first 24 months - largely because of
      poor quality and under-rated components.
As for repair - keeping a supply of components is not only
costly in storage space as well as storage system i.e. (bins)
but also the financial investment -
Parts management - meaning unless one keeps a database of
where the parts are located - searching for them can be time-consuming -
Also maintaining a database takes time.
Test equipment and tools - maintenance and replacement costs are
high - Energy costs keep increasing - and also insurance is critical.
Operating a business has high expenses and 98.7% of the population
do not comprehend - particularly when the business revolves around
any Technical - Medical - Mechanical Service
These are all High-Risk Businesses --
** AND as an observation - someone at FARNELL does not know how to SPELL the word BUSINESS -
-or it may simply be a TYPOGRAPHICAL error.
£50 is equivalent to -near enough $89.00 Australian Dollars -
That is quite low cost as the value of the repair is double that amount.

you do good videos.. i have a 39 inch umc, i got it in 2011 still works and still old enough to have ccfl backlight, all my tvs are ccfl backlight i dont have any led tvs.. bet they stopped making ccfl backlighted tvs because they was lasting too long

    • @michaeldranfield7140
      @michaeldranfield7140  2 года назад +3

The death of CCFL was the power consumption but as you say the longevity of CCFL will never be matched by LED backlight, I hardly ever use to see CCFL failure but LED failure is now by far the most common fault with some sets not even reaching 5,000 hours use before the LED s have failed.
Give me CCFL any day over LED .
