I have been saying "great jorb!" and "good jerb!" for years because of this. My brother finally asked me where it came from, and I've spent the last hour gloriously rewatching these toons.
my dad would always say “great jorb” to me when i was little, so it’s been part of my vocabulary since 2006/7 or so. i thought it was this hilarious inside joke at the time; nope, it’s been homestar this whole time. he was just a big homestar runner fan this whole time
True dat (regular type), but what always grounds me is his voice impressions on Marzipan's Answering Machine, especially, "You said you'd bake us a cake!"
I think they just put in audio of some creepy person laughing instead of voicing it, with that said it’s kinda unnerving, and it didn’t help that it was pretty continuous.
I remember watching these types of cartoons on the only computer we had in the house in the living room. And my step sisters were all super preppy and Hollister, and I was goth and edgy so I would always turn down the volume when I would watch these since the computer was in the living room. COMPLICATED MATH TIME: If Coach Z were to listen to the entire tape ("job" - 285194 times) while he was asleep, and Strong Sad presumably said "job" once a second, that means that Coach Z would've slept for at least 79.2205556 hours! Not only is that an absurd amount of time to be asleep for, but I'm pretty sure there's no such casette tape that lasts that long.
he spent nearly 80 hours asleep, trying to correctly pronounce ONE word, just to forget the name of Homestar Runner himself. EDIT: I looked it up, and the longest cassette tape in the world lasted 240 minutes, or 4 hours. Strong Sad’s “job” cassette tape is almost 20 times longer than the longest real cassette tape. Nice.

if the label on the tape Strong Sad gives to Coach Z is accurate, and if Strong Sad says Job the same way each time, with the same pause (which is a conclusion that is supported by the snippet of it we hear in the toon), it should be possible to determine how long the tape is. It takes SS 1.266 seconds to say "Job" once. Multiplying this by the 285,194 figure seen on the sticker, we get 361,055.604 seconds total, which is equal to 6,017.593 minutes, or 100.293 hours. This is unrealistic, as that would mean that the tape is 50 hours on each side, while the longest compact cassette to have been made available to consumers was the TDK D-180, which is only 3 hours. Additionally, if you multiply the 361,005.604 seconds figure by the standard cassette speed of 1 7/8 inches per second, we can determine that the tape in the cassette is roughly 676,885.508 inches long - which figures out to 56,407.125 feet, or 10.683 miles.

Strong Bad's laughter at 2:13 is what I hear in my nightmares.
it was a perfectly good skit and then they had to throw in that abomination and make everyone scream in terror and leave their office chairs
I feel like Homestar has no room to poke fun at Coach Z’s inability to pronounce the word “job” when he literally has a speech impediment.
