Laptop Disassembly Guide:
Disassembling your laptop may seem daunting, but I'll break it down into easy-to-follow steps. You'll learn how to remove the laptop's casing, locate and clean the heatsink and fans, and access to CPU for thermal paste replacement. By following this guide, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your laptop's internals and how to keep it running smoothly.
Fan Cleaning Techniques:
Dust and debris can accumulate in your laptop's fans and heatsink over time, leading to reduced airflow and increased temperatures. I'll show you effective methods to clean your laptop using an antistatic brush and proper handling techniques. By keeping your cooling system clean, you'll prevent overheating and extend the lifespan of your laptop.
Thermal Paste Replacement:
Thermal paste plays a crucial role in transferring heat from the laptop's CPU and GPU to the heatsink. However, over time, a thermal paste can dry out and lose its effectiveness. I'll guide you through the process of removing the old thermal paste and applying a fresh, high-quality one. This step is vital for optimal heat dissipation and temperature management. Don't let an overheating laptop slow you down! Watch this comprehensive guide and take control of your laptop's temperature. By performing regular fan cleaning and thermal paste replacement, you'll ensure smooth operation, prevent hardware damage, and extend the life of your laptop. Best video for a disassembly of a dv7. And no annoying music. Thanks.
I disassembled this HP dv7 six times and added thermal paste under the processor, graphics and all actively cooled components. And only after six such operations the laptop started working properly. I threw away all the thermal pads and replaced them with silver thermal paste. And I'm finally at peace with it, the laptop works like new, the repair cost is negligible, but there's a lot of work.
Fantastic easy to follow, got old laptop partially dismantled,. Can't wait to follow the fan dismantle and renew heatsink paste. Keep up the good information packed videos. As a retired flight simulator engineer, I have repaired and built from scratch PC's. This is my first
laptop. Thanks again. I shall upgrade .the processor and add an SSD. and use as a second laptop. I also have another i7 HP dV7 laptop. Thanks again for a great video.
Thank you for this tutorial, I had this laptop since my childhood, and this video is the reason it still holds up! Thank you, kind stranger! Thank you.
Thank you for this wonderful video. OMG HP SUCKS. I had to change out my cooling fan and what a nightmare. Thank God with your help I was able to get it done. FYI folks, take LOTS of photos along the way and mark the different sized screws accordingly.
Only HP ones are this complicated to clean ?.I am writing this from Pavilion g7,if this is required only to clean fan,it's crazy, this is literally full laptop disassembly.
You can also take out the actual plastic fan. You need to push it out and you can clean around the rotation piece as well.
Wow, you're right. Good thing the replacement was cheap enough I'm not going to kick my self over that one.
Yes very helpful, especially as this tear-down was the right one for the particular dv7 I had to disassemble (there are lots). The bit where the keyboard just pops out is a joke though - don't be surprised if you have to use a LOT of effort to get it to come away. I'm hoping it still works after re-assembly.
Thanks for a great video. I found the most challenging thing was to reassemble the laptop. The keyboard was ribbon was very tight to put back and took me 3 or 4 attempts.
This Video saved my sanity! Thank you for your excellent work!
You did a damn good job!
its possible to change the ram memory?
Thanks for the video, it's extremely hard to simply replace the fan.
Thank you so much, I was able to replace my thermal paste thanks to your video !
Would it be possible to upgrade the cpu?
Can I upgrade my HP Pavilion dv7 keyboard with a backlit keyboard?
Thank you very match.I do it by your video. Some screws not shown, but its not a problem.
USA.
Hello, do you know if there is any BIOS update for that HP laptop model with AMD CPU? On the HP website it tells me that this equipment no longer has, technical support I have one from a client that is like new, it surprised me, 👀 I serviced it by replacing the HDD unit with an SSD and I managed to install Windows 10, it works faster, it just gives me a Microsoft visual cc+ message or something similar every Once the OS started, the current Bios version is F.08, I have searched for some other equipment of the same series and they are not compatible.
Thanks a lot for this video very helpful
is posible upgrude of cpu for example to a i3 o i5 ??
Nope
On the whole great, but some steps are missing. For example the screws golding the motherboard to the chasis was not there. Also the power cord connected to the motherboard was alreadly disconnected.
7:20 worst part. I always hate these things. Something always breaks off where the video does it super smoothly somehow.
Un grand merci. Cela m'a vraiment aidé pour bidouiller mon vieux portable.
Danke vielmals!
Thank you, very helpful video!
I have a problem. When I close the lid, the laptop no longer reacts of this. I have installed a new fan and held me for this guide here.
Before, everything was still running.
In the BIOS I have already searched but no setting found for it.
Monitor cable and the white connection beside I have connected to the mainboard as before synonymous.
Have I forgotten something? Please help.
Change a setting in Windows Power Options called "Choose what closing the lid does"
This helped and then kept on helping. What a pain in the ass this one was to replace a fan.
Thank you, will use that vid in near future
Superb video. Can i remove & clean the fan without removing the heat sink from the CPU / graphics chip?
Yes, but it is not easy. I was able to replace my fan without removing the CPU. Maybe you can just clean it with old toothbrush and canned air without pulling the fan off.
My laptop overheats frequently is this the way to stop the overheating?
Only way to stop overheating is clean fan and replace thermal gel... not an easy task with the DV's.
@@spotify952 ye the laptop broke now i got a other one with an i5 same model tho 4gb of ram insteas of 8 and its way slower i dont use the laptop anymore but i got a pc now with a 1st gen i7 reaching 100celsius turns out the thermal paste was expired-bad i put new one on managed to scrape 10-15 celsius of it im planning to go to a i5 6500.
Does anyone have the part number for the fan?
This one works, too:
SUNON
MagLev
MF60120V1-C180-S9A
DC 5 V, 2 W
:)
nope. ended yp breaking a connection. something else at top center would not allow top to come off!
what's the white tube you're using?
this for the video
this is thermal paste, for example you can use Arctic Cool MX-4 or Zalman ZM-STG2
my laptop ls dv7 6b63us?? work it????
Thanks! This was helpful-

Gracias, me sirvió
Sound! Where's the SOUND!?!?!
Speak Russian do you?
where can i buy this cable for second hd?
I bought one of deal extreme I think. Back when I was actually looking for it, about five years ago, buying one from hp, i costed... 60 euro's! :D
It was 60 euro's for a sata cable to insert a second hard drive.
So yes, I recommend the cheap 4 euro cable from china :p
ok. braki śrubek wtedy proste
12:00
It was all a trick for HP, i forced to make fan manually controlled i set speed at Max speed and the pc partially IS now at 65°
THANK FUCKING GOD !
I spend like two hours trying to take this shit apart, felt like i was tearing everything apart. that keyboard is really BS !
oh my god, I thought my computer's speaker is dead and I have a sound problem...
lol
@ some old hard to do! :)
It's not a laptop, it's an insolence! They should have just stuck to pocket calculators! ;-)
Thanks for this, but i can not take risk for few money..
Laptops are 100x the work for no more benefit than being portable. What a pain. Ugh... 😮💨
This is not dv7!
why do you think so?..
because I have dv7 and I know!
but the thing is that this is dv7, HP Pavilion dv7-6c Series. Maybe you have another dv7, there's a lot of different models
I have exactly this dv7 Series from HP.
Totally crazy to open this device.
And only for the pc fan.
My next PC will be a desktop PC. Because this sort of laptops are too stupid assembled together.
And thanks for this video. This has helped me.
@ Max Gratyfikator
that is a dv7 in video sense i have the same one but a amd version :)
@ some old hard to do! :)
