The Krone is made in the small town of Spelle Germany. With the Krone in dry conditions back the pto rpm down if you haven’t already , normally that helps resolve the windrowing issue. Max rpm is 540 but recommend operating range is actually 350-450. Nice video, shows how specs can be misleading.

We must have gotten short changed too, ours said 18' but usable only measures out to 17' 8" LOL. I wish ours had the hydraulic tilt like yours, it would be great when you see a chuck hole coming, but next on our list is a rotary rake.

I have a one year old KW 5.52 krone tedder and it is made in the Czech Republic. I looked at the same model of Pequea tedder and my final decision between the 2 came down to parts and service. My krone dealer was 30 minutes away and the Pequea stocking dealer was 1 1/2 hour away. He is correct about the Krone windrowing when it is dryer. I really like my new krone.
The dealer I used to work for sold Kuhn, Krone, Vicon, Fella, and Massey/Hesston. The Massey/Hesstons were always being brought in for repair and we worked on our fair share of Krones. The rest were usually wore plum out before we did anything to them.
Hello, I had the same 5.52 krone tedder and I bought 2 new 4 basket krone tedders last year and I have found that they don't seem to turn the same rpm as the old 5.52 did. I was thinking about a peqway 4 basket, so I'm glad you did this video. I do like the larger tires on the new krone. I also have a kuhn 6 basket, that does a good job, I may see about a 4 basket kuhn.

Had an 8 star Kuhn for years and went to Krone because of a more robust construction. Anyway, both of the clylinders are leaking oil, which pisses me off. I saw you change a seal in an earlier video. Great work, but not something I want to do. Krone parts are crazy expensive!! Love your videos.
@@DLHFarms Why? I can only assume that the trailed hay tools can be operated by lighter tractors. But like Dave said the benefit of the 3 point hitch mounted tedder is the ability to lift the tines out of the ground.
@@damjord because 3pt equipment is more difficult to hook and unhook when you need to switch the tractor to different implements throughout the day. We've had that same conversation on a 4 basket or 6 basket but ultimately the money just never makes sense for us. How many acres are you doing? I just bumped up to 200 acres and I tedd everything sometimes twice when making horse hay. I pulled the pequea 60mph on the way home the dealer told me he done it before with no problem and it done just fine at that speed.
@@DLHFarms We've got 120 acres in hay production right now. 20 is Alfalfa that we small square for horse hay and the rest is mixed orchard that we roll, but we tedd everything. 60mph is impressive, at the very least it means its a tight machine.
@@DLHFarms I know a couple guys around here that have them, but there is only a handful of fields I know of that lay good enough and have enough acres to warrant 8-10k more in tedding cost.
You might consider a 6 basket Vermeer 2510. Zimmerman Equipment in New Castle carries them. These tedders are of Lely design origins. The hook tines are not a gimmick. The 2510 is carted so traveling on highway should be easy. Search Vermeer TE250, TE2510 and Lely 6 basket tedders. I have done business with Zimmerman, including warranty and found them (and Vermeer) easy to work with. Good luck!
You’ll throw rocks at a 4 basket after you use a 6 basket especially if you ted a lot. It is a little unnerving the noise the hay makes when it goes through it the first time you use it.
@@DLHFarms yep I bought a Vermeer that folds up on wheeled frame because of fields being spread apart by a bunch of miles. Only draw back is height adjustment has to be done by raising and lowering the main wheels other than that it is fine piece of equipment.
I’m not a farmer just to put that out there. I use to cut grass for money. It’s all about time and money. I’d say this to each how many more passes to you have to make with the shorter one? The other question is if the smaller has a faster time speed does it not then matter. Meaning will it spread the hay farther than the Krone? I like that the fact that the Krone is lighter that way it’s a little more fuel-efficient in might to pull behind. Do they both run at the same engine RPM speed to get the tines to move? If the smaller one needs a higher RPM to get that faster tines speed that’s going to burn a little fuel along with it’s extra weight. Now I don’t farm, I’m just a viewer but those are the questions that I might have. From all the videos I’ve seen you use with that Krone it has done a very good job. I don’t know it’s interesting to see what you choose in the end.
We went with the krone over Perrault because the krone was less$. We highway it 25 miles between farms with no problems. Our krone done somewhat windrow second time, but I like that . I’m not a hardcore krone guy, because if the peqeau was cheaper, I would own one.
I've spent quite a bit of time using a 3 point hitch mounted 4 rotor krone tedder. I think the 3 point hitch mounted tedders are more convenient than that style. That style that you have would be a bit awkward around here in Ireland
You need to rig you up some sort of driveline extension and an offset hitch like a MOCO and pull both of those things at the same time. You'd get done quick like that LOL
I’ve got to call you tomorrow I haven’t forgot you we’ve just been busy as hell! Lol but the real difference maker with these two is when you get to the field the pequea teds way better than the krone. Appearance wise there about the same
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the pequea Tedder. I am going to get me one shortly for square hay. I run two 9 foot cutters and the 5070 new Holland baler and accumulator 10 bale Accumalator grapples for squares
Good comparison between the tedders.Has the design changed any on the newer model Krone tedders? It would be interesting to see how the Pequea performs in the field.
They haven’t changed the krone 5.52 much biggest thing is they added the SMV sign, guessing there will be a complete redesign soon. They just released the Vendro series in Europe which we probably won’t see bc its a light duty Tedder for extreme hilly conditions, but seeing they did that I’m guessing the new 5.52 is not far behind.
Just look at the flatter profile on the peqea...that is what you want your tedder to look like...it puts the teeth both picking crop up and spreading it much better
I have 2 of those krones and I enjoy using my old bush hog one that does a even better job... not sure on the other brand I've never really messed with them

Dennis, there may be other variables to consider. Possibly the Pequea will ted at 9 mph while the Krone does best at 8 1/2 mph thereby more than compensating for the narrow width. Another possibility is actual tedded width. Measure the actual tedded path behind each one, there could be a slight angle difference in the two causing functional difference in width. I am not a farmer but I do like the features of the Pequea. Art
So after twenty years the Pennsylvania boys are still trying to copy the Germans ? How many tines have your replaced on the 2008 Krone ? Have the PA boys duplicated the torque washer that the Krone arms attach to the hub ? Can you use the PA tedder on a 1972 MF 135 or does it need a $40.000 tractor ?

I’m also in SWVA. I’ve have steep hills and rough ground not sure how the 6 would hold up.
Well - it will fit easier into the barn when your done!
Haha always look at the bright side
You might consider a 6 basket Vermeer 2510. Zimmerman Equipment in New Castle carries them. These tedders are of Lely design origins. The hook tines are not a gimmick. The 2510 is carted so traveling on highway should be easy. Search Vermeer TE250, TE2510 and Lely 6 basket tedders. I have done business with Zimmerman, including warranty and found them (and Vermeer) easy to work with. Good luck!
Thanks 👍
You’ll throw rocks at a 4 basket after you use a 6 basket especially if you ted a lot. It is a little unnerving the noise the hay makes when it goes through it the first time you use it.
Yeah I just traded for the 6 basket I tedd everything sometimes two or three times doing horse hay should be a huge time saver.
I don’t care for 3pt hay implements because I have to use the same tractor for many tasks.
You need to rig you up some sort of driveline extension and an offset hitch like a MOCO and pull both of those things at the same time. You'd get done quick like that LOL
Haha that’s what my uncle suggested
Seems like the features on the pequea are nicer than the krone. If the width is that big of a deal I’d consider the 6 star pequea.
I just traded this one for the 6 star. Just a lot more money 💰
I’ve got to call you tomorrow I haven’t forgot you we’ve just been busy as hell! Lol but the real difference maker with these two is when you get to the field the pequea teds way better than the krone. Appearance wise there about the same
Ok looking forward to hearing from you. I traded this one for the 6101 6 basket. Just hope it holds up
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the pequea Tedder. I am going to get me one shortly for square hay. I run two 9 foot cutters and the 5070 new Holland baler and accumulator 10 bale Accumalator grapples for squares
@@vernt4583 awesome! You can’t beat a good Tedder for making good dry horse quality hay.
This is funny because we just got rid of our Pequea and replaced it with a Krone
I would say it's up to you an what fits your needs The new one would work better for your fields an it probably would be a lot easier on you
I traded it for a bigger 6 basket today.
Cool can't wait to see it in action
Unfortunate on that width issue. Doesn’t @onelonelyfarmer have the 6 basket Pequea?
He does and I just traded mine for the 6 basket also.
I like what your uncle said
Good comparison between the tedders.Has the design changed any on the newer model Krone tedders? It would be interesting to see how the Pequea performs in the field.
They haven’t changed the krone 5.52 much biggest thing is they added the SMV sign, guessing there will be a complete redesign soon. They just released the Vendro series in Europe which we probably won’t see bc its a light duty Tedder for extreme hilly conditions, but seeing they did that I’m guessing the new 5.52 is not far behind.
Just look at the flatter profile on the peqea...that is what you want your tedder to look like...it puts the teeth both picking crop up and spreading it much better
It does seem to do a better job than the krone.
take a look at Esch tedders they are made in PA , also look at Enorossi they are heavy and mutch better prices
I asked Pequea directly on this subject. They claim it is not 18’ but it will throw hay 18’. I think it’s pretty misleading
Haha that’s funny
I have 2 of those krones and I enjoy using my old bush hog one that does a even better job... not sure on the other brand I've never really messed with them
Man that's messed up that they advertised it this way. Hopefully the performance makes up for it. The 6 star would be nice to see for sure.
Thinking about the 6 star if they can find one.
@@DLHFarms I stopped by our Massey dealer and checked out the TD776 tedder. It appears to be all hydraulic and it's quite wide.
Huh. I was already set on the 4102 being my next tedder but that’s about enough to tick somebody off
Yeah I wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t claim they were the widest 4 basket Tedder. Guess they never measured a krone.
@@DLHFarms exactly!! Like.... The width is fine for me but don’t claim it’s one of the widest or the widest 4 basket out there if it’s simply not. Other than that it looks like a great tedder. Hope you and the family are all doin well
@@nalley6815 thanks! We are doing well hope you are.
The Pequea overall looks like a better designed and built unit. I don’t hay so that’s all I have to say about that lol
we have the same problem with our JD drawbar is really low the tedder is almost level. but when we hook up to the kubota its a big difference and you also get a better tedding job. look like the pequea has changed a little since we bought ours and some good and some bad. like that comparison video. dont always get good comparison videos cause a lot of them are made by different ag companies and they favor theres and bash the other brands. have a blessed day
👍
Check out an Esch hay Tedder they are by far the best Tedder built
Thanks never heard of it.
One thing I hope they didn’t copy was the damn guards that break and fall off into the spinning arms and destroys half the Krone Tedder. It’s on its second set of teeth and they aren’t holding up as good as the first.
@@DLHFarms So how did the guards break off ?
Vibration from use. I wish I had thought to put that in the video.
@@DLHFarms Use in the field or towing behind a pickup ? Since you dont use little tractors, why dont you consider a six rotor three pount Krone ? That eliminates most of the issues.
I’d buy another krone. Don’t think the peck way will last as well. One lonely farmer isn’t a big fan on them
Never seen where he disliked the Tedder other than the airplane tires
Put a drive pulley on my disc mower and started getting the baler ready. Bout to cut next week 🤞
I got about another month before my hay gets ready where I live.
The difference between the two very well explained.
Thanks!
What the dealer let you try it once before bringing it back?
Yeah he said he would but there’s no use the krone is barley wide enough to get my windrows.
I read in the comments that you got the 6 basket, hope it works out for ya after going through all that. Let us know what ya think about the 6 basket
Yep I sure did hope it holds together.
I'm curious to know how they ride, going down the road? We have a kuhn, and it sways so bad you think it's going to turn over.
I pulled the pequea at 60mph bringing it home with no problems at all
We tried pulling ours just to see if it would do the death wobble at 65 it pulled flawless
The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. I have noticed on several US sites that a lot of the grassland machinery comes from Euope, most likely because Europe is heavy into grass especially silage with up to 10 tons per acre, Krone is one of the leading European grassland machinery makers and is based in Germany.
Guess we’ll see what happens
KUHN is the way to go
Can't believe what you read in advertisements
You would think they could read a ruler though.
@@DLHFarms yeah you would think they could.
Sorry, you are not happy with your new tedder . Hopefully it will better in the hay field. Thanks enjoyed watching, iPhone did a good job. Thanks 🙏
I traded it for the bigger 6 basket today.
@@DLHFarms : Awesome can u show us the new one. Enjoyed listening to the difference in the two. Thanks 🙏
why different colors on the tines are they curved in the opposite way for each head . you were going by measurement buy a travel trailer they include the 4 foot tongue in the lenght
Yes they are turned opposite ways.
Exellent video where did u get the new tedder. Love the fact that the tires are tubeless that is what would be best selling point for me tuned tire are for the 🐦
It came from Boone tractor in Salem Va.
@@DLHFarms have to swing by there and check em out.
If you're looking for a really good Tedder I would look at an esch tedder they are the heaviest built that I have found
And the esch folds just like the peqeua
I’ll have to check those out.
Turn the john deere draw bar upside down
Good review .
Thanks!
What's your opinion on the new holland 3417 tedder
No idea never used one.
From the price you qouted, the Krone has gone up in price about 4000.00 from what I see.
Everything has went up tremendously.
Not entirely sure what to make of this. Maybe they should've made the guards larger, at least then they could have technically correctly advertised a 22' tedder... Grmpfh. But I know that if I see a "Not Happy!" in your video title I know there's some beef to be had! Was it the Krone tedder where the dangling hose caused you grief? If so, do you think the new tedder solved that problem?
No the hose problem was on the Kubota rake but I’ve got that fixed.
Mr Dennis got a question for ya. I’m finally ready to buy a tedder now. It’s either krone or Pequea but I really like the size of the Krone vs Pequea. I’m leaning toward the Krone because my dealer said if I don’t like it he’ll just buy it back. What are your thoughts on it?
Get the Krone they are good for the most part.
@@DLHFarms also the prices I’m working with is 8650 for the Pequea and 9700 on the Krone. Yeah I figured you were the best person to ask since you’ve had your krone so long. How’s your weather over there? Hay lookin good? Hope you and the family are doin good as always
Hay is kinda sad it’s been dry and cold here. So far it’s turning off about half what it normally does.
@@DLHFarms Aw. I’m sorry to hear that. I got a bale and a half an acre off my first cut. Last year did 2.7 an acre. Neither is good but this year so far is pretty bad. 4x5’s around 800 pounds so I’m getting barely anything off my first cut
that new tedder will cost more to operate...krone for the win...although the new one does have nice features
Yep
Well I'm back to haying I got on a farm with a old 930 case and kuhn tedder
👍
I started with a peaque 4 did a great job was a first in the series and broke a wing twice and a lot of teeth and teeth bolts. Then got akrone much hea vied no break age but l always believed the peaqua did a better job and the krone did seem to windrow dealer said l ran it wrong. Maybe not the operator
check out the kubota they have a great one
Thought they looked kinda flimsy
You talked more good about the new machine so I would see if they had a bigger one that you was happy with. Seems the old machine had more down falls than good. So if it was me I would get a bigger one like the new machine. 🤷♂️
That’s exactly what I did. I waiting on it to get here and a video will follow.
@@DLHFarms seems like you liked it better than the other one. Hope it works well for you.
Just looking at it I do, but I’ve never used it so it’s hard to say yet.
The new krone does have the tilt and has tubeless tires
Good to know.
Width vs working width
Tedders are measured from points of contact with crip not tip to tip on the side.....your not picking up hay on th side...out front
Either way the krone is bigger
I can tell you from experience that those turbo tedders make hay dry fast
Yes I bought the bigger 6 basket one though I traded the 4 basket back in.
Demo it and if you like it get them to throw you a bone to keep it. If not send it back.
I’ve done paid for it but they said they would take i back.
The pequa has better design with better contact path to feed crop better
Probably use corn head grease
Yep
Lol measured to guards??? I guess you have to see before you buy??
Bought it un assembled I just went off their claim of being the widest 4 basket Tedder at 18 feet 2 inches which wasn’t true.
Might as well get what you want or you won't be happy with it that's for sure.
That’s exactly right
Messick done a video not long ago about tedders and how the Krone is much better.
Can’t believe everything you see on RUclips haha
@@DLHFarms look up this video they sale several brands of Tedders and the video was very informative I know that Krone equipment cost more but I believe that it worth the price you pay for Krone.
Can you flip the hitch over on your John Deere or is it a flat bar?
It’s got like 4 inches of drop, if I flip it, it will be higher than the pto stub.
@@DLHFarms My 6120m came with a 4" drop. I bought a new drawbar from another model, I think it was a 6125r. its about 2" drop, same length and everything. Works a lot better with all my stuff now. But it was $$ like $500
best thing I did with my Krone is add another hose to separate fold up and tilt
That’s a good idea
Krone is way better tedder
Guess we’ll see
Maybe demo a Kubota tedder?
Looked at them they are supper light duty.
Have u had any welds break on the krone
All the guards broke and fell off of it and destroyed tine arms on the way out.
