Finally got it, some tips I can give, whenever you defeat all the suits of armor in a section, the game immediately creates a checkpoint, this is useful to avoid waiting for Trico to calm down, in the sections where you have to dive, the fastest way is to dive first and then grab one of Trico's legs and finally, you don't have to wait for Trico to reach you for the game to create a checkpoint, specially in the antenna rooms, as soon as the boy is in those rooms, restart the checkpoint and Trico will be there.
Yes, it dives to the tunnel, and then decides to return above water, did that 3 times in a row the last game I played.... First time I was playing it dived under, and somehow the boy let go of Trico, and Trico swam into the tunnel alone. After that it took me another 15 minutes to get him to dive into the tunnel with the boy.

OMG, third play through and I've just found out that you can place barrels on top of boxes... at 2:13:15 I always needed the second box and threw the barrel on top of them lol
I'm literally on my 4th playthrough right now, an hour in, going for the under-5-hours run. I never knew you could place them on top either, that's gonna save so much time haha!

The part where you drop down into a room with the armors, and you have to pull the chain to let Trico in (around 1hr mark in the video) - I had NO idea that there was a hidden path underneath! I would just go round in loops, very slowly pulling the gate open haha. I hated this bit the most in the whole game :) !! Will help a lot when I try for the speed run trophy, thank you very much for posting this :) !!!
I got this on my second playthrough im pretty sure i was like 5 hours and 30 minutes but still got it. I think the game allows up to 5 hours and 59 minutes but no way to be sure as the game dont have any timers. You can climb chains faster if you just tap up many times with some timing, instead of pressing and holding up Also spam triangle when climbing up ladders Here is how you command trico to jump. First, look at the pillar using the camera, then just give command R1 + forward to trico once. Dont give multiple command trico will get confused and it will cancel out. Look at where trico head is looking. If he is looking at the pillar that you want it to jump, then trico will jump on it, just wait and be patient, he is just moving around to prepare for the jump. I had more luck using command R1 + forward than R1 + triangle on trico.

It's real easy. Just back up your save every 30 minutes. I only died by accident once through my speedrun. but I had my save backed up and didn't even have to do any back tracking because I had just backed it up
Yeah, but the fact that you can earn the "no death" trophy by just backing-up and reloading saves makes it cheap and meaningless. It's the same thing with shaving time off by practicing a part and reloading the save; don't the developers know that players do things like this? I've definitely done it myself, and am not chiding anyone, but it's stupid that such trophies exist with such obvious exploits. In the end these trophies just become a menial grind. They should have just put in chapter selects after players finish the game, time-stamp the auto-saves so the clock resets when you die, and not have a "no death" trophy. For contrast: the "Speedlunky" trophy is a real speed-run trophy; there's no exploiting that.
The Timesmyth Doing it any other way would be WAY TOO MUCH TO ASK. I personally don't think a game like this should have abnormally difficult trophies. It already have tougher than average trophies, anymore and it would just be plain unfair. This isn't bloodborne you know
Another tip for going a bit faster if you press triangle while climbing a chain or vines or even Trico it makes climbing go a bit faster when trying to get up to the top of something
3:34:15 you don't need to climb up to cart. just pick up the mirror and used it to point at cart and trico's tail will shoot will made it down to saved more times
One thing I keep doing which I hope isn't going to ruin it is when I screw up, I just quit the game, and back up my save. I assume since its loads to the most recent checkpoint that it doesn't count the extra time I wasted past that checkpoint. It shouldn't. The one part I really struggled with on my first playthrough was trying to throw the barrels up hill at 1:36:00 , to bring to Trico. That especially was brutal so I don't know how I'm going to speedrun it both times. I raged when I wasn't speedrun at that bit, will be worse now. And people complain about Trico not listening. He does listen. Often he does shit on his own too and you don't even have to tell him, but sometimes, if you give him too many commands it literally cancels out. You gotta command him and see how he reacts. If he starts to look in the direction you pointed him in at all, he'll probably do what you asked soon, If you command him again, he might get confused and just turn his head at you. Like a dog. This speedrun has taught me how to control Trico much better.

I was worried about the Catch Trico in the act trophy but it popped as I got to the last encounter arena LOL. He pooped all over the top of the tower where all the other beasts fly in. What a relief it popped on my speedrun/nodeathrun/spearpullrun.
I did this in 4:52 total time played, I really played as a newb, several times trical does not obey me, but later in the game I realized how his behavior is when you do the correct commands, do not do a lot of commands for him, otherwise he will not do Nothing, he'll be confused. Just say once and if he looks at the way you point, and then look back at you, press circle to "confirm" with a fondness .... I died in the middle of the game, so I say damn it without deaths, so I go free to run jump without fear as I've done it a thousand times, and I think, I play well, then before kkk and pretty fast I restarted a checkpoint, which I think was very slow ... But I think the still counting when you subtract = / - then try not to restart cehckpoints ... Try to make only one save before the end of the game, where trico flying to the white tower, exactly here is a chekpoint (after the flight), then quit the game and make a backup, if at the end of the game you are running Out of time, reaload this save and try to help trico with the shield, move faster, no pet trico after fights, etc ... I did this and I save 7-8 min of the total For the latter, play wih a cronometer with you, shortly after pressing "newgame"
Thanks PowerPyx I Managed to get the Lightning Emissary Trophy cause of your video. What I did was brake it down in 30 minute segments. I checked where you were every 30 mins in the video if i was a few minutes off no more than 5 mins i would back my save and continue. and keep backing up every 30 mins
I kinda want to get all trophies for this game but yet again I feel like I just like to inflict pain on myself... First of all I just finished the game, I tried to find most barrels on my own but I just haven't found half of it which completely surprised me that there's so many barrels to find. And also this speedrun of 5 hours... I fucking love this game but the AI of Trico is fucking tricky and irritated me a couple of times. I do want to get all barrels first, then I'll see if I can do this
It's really not bad. I'm doing the speedrun myself now. It's amazing how different Trico seems now that I know how to command him. It's really simple, give him 1 command, wait for him to respond. Rarely do you ever have to give him the same command twice, and often if you do command him more than once, they cancel out because you've confused the shit out of a very believable wild animal. It's part of the game design that you have to learn how to communicate with him and why he's so believable. It's a huge part of why the player builds such a bond with Trico. Like I said, give him 1 command at a time, wait to see if he responds before giving another. You'll start to pick up on the signs quickly. Also make sure you're giving him the right commands too and pointing in the correct direction. Allign the camera behind you to make sure you're giving accurate commands. t's the same way with jumpiing too
That was the problem at first because most of the times I wasn't sure what to command. It's true that now I've already played it I basicly know where to go and it'll make 100 times easier
Yeah I noticed it just kept adding to the ones I already had so that's nice, currently unlocked all outfits so now the next unlock is the painting thing.
Hugo Stiglitz You keep repeating the same thing in other comments and I assure you. Trico does glitch, specially while attempting this trophy, he has scripted animations and some moments that may appear "believable" are scripted. Sometimes he will just stare at a rock as if he was watching the birds, other times he will repeat the same animation over and over until you restart the checkpoint. I love the game but defending an unreliable AI is ridiculous, I'm sorry.
Took me two attempts but I got it on the second run. I don't know if cut scenes count towards the timer. On my first run I didn't skip over any of them and (I think) went over because of it...the second run, I skipped them all and got it without an issue. Now all I need is All Talked Out, No Deaths, All Barrels and All Peek-A-Boo holes and I will have the Platinum...thanks for the vid.
If you pause the game when you're falling to your death IN TIME to pause and 'restart checkpoint', its NOT A DEATH. If you're not fast enough and have to clear symbols, THAT was a death. So pay attention people, PowerPyx NEVER died. Even on a 'technicality'. When he paused and restarted around 1:18:00 (whatever) it doesn't count because he was able to pause and restart IN TIME. Because otherwise every time you restart a checkpoint (whether you died or not, used checkpoints to save files, abused run times) those would count as 'deaths' EACH TIME with your flawed logic. Restart = CHEATED Death Clear symbols = ACTUAL Death It's not a death if you never clear symbols, you all realize that right?
I got some lovely blisters thanks to this game 😬. But the ending tugged at my heart. Trico had his struggles AI wise. But dispite those struggles, he's a VERY lovable character. Sometimes he felt oddly almost real?? I also loved to pet him 🥺💖.
Well while this was about my 4th play through I managed to get the trophy. I wasn't following the video time but I was about 3hrs in about the same time the video was and I tried to stay ahead of where the video was.
Placing 4 barrels INSIDE the injured Trico is the worst ****** part of the whole game. Thanks to the impossible bull**** physics in this game, the barrels can just bounce off his beak and 10 feet in the air
IMPORTANT! I finished the game in 5:21:40 with skipping all cutscenes and I still get Lightning Emissary Trophy!!! And I died like 10 times at least...
You can actually climb the chains quicker. Instead of holding up, just press up, as soon as the boy is holding the chain again, press up. If you carry on doing this in this kind of rhythm you will climb chains a lot faster.
PowerPyx, I haven't accomplished what you have...but did you know you can take the collar off of Trico BEFORE pulling out the right shoulder spear? Saves a little time
Even though Trico has a chicken body, a dog face and rat ears...hehe...he still reminds me so much of Falcor from The Never Ending Story. What a stunningly beautiful game. This will be my 1st of the system.
Wow, just started a speedrun and the part at around 40:00 when he's supposed to jump he just sits there looking around and smelling the ivy. Smh, I'm honestly so glad this is my last trophy. This game is frustrating as hell.
Amamalian You're suppose to go through that small hole in the wall where the ivy is to lure Trico to jump onto the pillar. Run down there and he jumps up straight away, then you go back and climb up his tail. That's how you're suppose to proceed, but everyone just sits there for 20 minutes waiting for Trico to make a move instead of trying something else. Having to wait for a character to be in the right mood to progress would be stupid game design.
@Vandole I respectfully disagree. Every game made by them just has some of the worst mechanics of any video game in history. It COULD’VE been a great game, and I do love the ending don’t get me wrong. But trying to speed run a game like this is just not the way it should be played. I was so glad to have finished all the trophies to never have to play it again. Also this was like 3+ years ago, I don’t even really play video games anymore 🤷🏻. But I still stand by that mechanically, it’s a very poorly designed game, along with everything else they’ve made.
This trophy was ridiculous, especially considering the terrible controls, Trico's faulty AI and the camera. Luckily, I got mine. I clocked in at about 5:30 though because of Trico so i'm guessing there is some allowance on the time taken to get the trophy. Thanks for the guide.

finally got it today *o*!! but was a bit annoying to save some parts on usb and loading again. (died 4- 6 times if i remember right). was my 6th playtrough lol played it 4 times to release already, cause i love it. trico is best.
Yeah, gonna test this tonight... If I don't get the trophy because I watched the cutscenes I'm gonna be really disappointed, because I want to livestream it in it's full glory.
RAEW CZ I'm almost positive it doesn't count the cutscenes. My speedrun was timed at 5h7m including the cutscenes but I still got the trophy Butt FYI, unless you have a capture card, it'll be hard to stream a speedrun of this game because anytime you quit the game it stops the stream and you will have to quit the game when you screw up or take too long to do something. Otherwise you'll miss the trophy. Make sure you back up your saves often too I suggest using power pyx's playthrough to gauge your progress. He did skip the cutscenes though, so if you can, stop the stopwatch during cutscenes so your run will match his more accurately.

Not really, it was the only bit making me feel uneasy when doing it. Although if you go for the speed-run last, you will have some idea of how the areas of the game are set up, and where there will be an area which will be roughly where the checkpoint is.
Those constant screen tips are really annoying, as long as this game took to make you'd think they'd found a better way to communicate with the player.

HolySinner There's a option on the Fine FeatherPainter that allows you to revert Trico back to his original colour. It's like a grey colour, but it looks similar to the black one, so be careful xD
Got the Intensive Care trophy with this since i missed it on my first playthrough, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, i just removed any spears i saw in Trico after a fight, be they intact or broken
Hello. Does anyone knows in the Intensive Care trophy if the battle in the bridge against the other Trico count? Because once Trico falls into the ground his laying on the side that had the spear thrown at it and I can't remove it and after the cutscene its gone. Any help?
But can I save in the middle of the game or no? For example, I save in the evening, close the console and continue playing in the morning... it's possible?
How does the time counter works when using a "restart from checkpoint"? Does it adds to the total or does it reverts back from the start of that checkpoint?
Revo♥RaFalen Yes. When using the Fine Featherpainter item, cycle through the colors until you get to the one that doesn't have a colored beam shooting out from it. That is what you use to paint him his original colors.

Cool Dude No, Trico eating you is an unavoidable part of the story and required to progress further. He doesn't actually kill the boy, just spits him out again.
It would be better to reload a backup save. I know restarting checkpoints keeps track of your kills and trophy progress (which is why you can farm combat trophies by restarting checkpoints). So I would assume it does count the time between checkpoint restarts as well. Make a backup save every 10-20 minutes and restore it if something goes wrong. I wouldn't worry too much about 1 minute delays, that happened to me too a few times (glitchy Trico). If you are stuck for 3-5 minutes reload the save game.
Thanks for info PowerPyx. Actually got the trophy. Well, I made 4 restarts in "water" levels, got +/- 7 deaths. 0 copy/paste save data. I just wandering what was my time. Maybe 4:55 or somethig, hah. Trophy isn't hard. I think speed run in ICO was harder than this. Only problem is A.I. Trico.
I died but when I was falling I kept hitting the option button to go back to last check point but it wouldn't let me so it let me die what should I do? I don't want to end up having to do another run down to get the no deaths trophy.

i'm trying for the trophy myself, but feel like my run got ruined in the part at 2:10:32. I easily lost about 20 - 30 minutes to this, his tail just would not fall down. i ended up restarting checkpoint and trying again, which eventually worked. It has to be that, mixed with some unfortunate deaths and me missing things cause i'm getting ahead of myself. i might have to try again, but really i'm not sure how to do that section quicker.
just a follow up. i did manage to somehow beat the game in under 5 hours, though i would imagine i barely did it. I must have died about 4-5 times, plus getting stuck down in the water part waiting for his tail. So a little bit surprised, i must have been going pretty fast through the rest of it XP

Try to make only one save before the end of the game, where trico flying to the white tower, exactly here is a chekpoint (after the flight), then quit the game and make a backup, if at the end of the game you are running Out of time, reaload this save and try to help trico with the shield, move faster, no pet trico after fights, etc ... I did this and I save 7-8 min of the total
For the latter, play wih a cronometer with you, shortly after pressing "newgame"

Thanks PowerPyx I Managed to get the Lightning Emissary Trophy cause of your video. What I did was brake it down in 30 minute segments. I checked where you were every 30 mins in the video if i was a few minutes off no more than 5 mins i would back my save and continue. and keep backing up every 30 mins
I kinda want to get all trophies for this game but yet again I feel like I just like to inflict pain on myself...
First of all I just finished the game, I tried to find most barrels on my own but I just haven't found half of it which completely surprised me that there's so many barrels to find.
And also this speedrun of 5 hours... I fucking love this game but the AI of Trico is fucking tricky and irritated me a couple of times.
I do want to get all barrels first, then I'll see if I can do this
It's really not bad. I'm doing the speedrun myself now. It's amazing how different Trico seems now that I know how to command him.
It's really simple, give him 1 command, wait for him to respond. Rarely do you ever have to give him the same command twice, and often if you do command him more than once, they cancel out because you've confused the shit out of a very believable wild animal. It's part of the game design that you have to learn how to communicate with him and why he's so believable.
It's a huge part of why the player builds such a bond with Trico.
Like I said, give him 1 command at a time, wait to see if he responds before giving another. You'll start to pick up on the signs quickly.
Also make sure you're giving him the right commands too and pointing in the correct direction. Allign the camera behind you to make sure you're giving accurate commands. t's the same way with jumpiing too
That was the problem at first because most of the times I wasn't sure what to command.

Yeah I noticed it just kept adding to the ones I already had so that's nice, currently unlocked all outfits so now the next unlock is the painting thing.

Hugo Stiglitz You keep repeating the same thing in other comments and I assure you. Trico does glitch, specially while attempting this trophy, he has scripted animations and some moments that may appear "believable" are scripted. Sometimes he will just stare at a rock as if he was watching the birds, other times he will repeat the same animation over and over until you restart the checkpoint. I love the game but defending an unreliable AI is ridiculous, I'm sorry.
Took me two attempts but I got it on the second run. I don't know if cut scenes count towards the timer. On my first run I didn't skip over any of them and (I think) went over because of it...the second run, I skipped them all and got it without an issue. Now all I need is All Talked Out, No Deaths, All Barrels and All Peek-A-Boo holes and I will have the Platinum...thanks for the vid.
If you pause the game when you're falling to your death IN TIME to pause and 'restart checkpoint', its NOT A DEATH. If you're not fast enough and have to clear symbols, THAT was a death.
So pay attention people, PowerPyx NEVER died. Even on a 'technicality'. When he paused and restarted around 1:18:00 (whatever) it doesn't count because he was able to pause and restart IN TIME.
Because otherwise every time you restart a checkpoint (whether you died or not, used checkpoints to save files, abused run times) those would count as 'deaths' EACH TIME with your flawed logic.
Restart = CHEATED Death
Clear symbols = ACTUAL Death
It's not a death if you never clear symbols, you all realize that right?

But the ending tugged at my heart. Trico had his struggles AI wise. But dispite those struggles, he's a VERY lovable character. Sometimes he felt oddly almost real?? I also loved to pet him 🥺💖.
My father asked me if I wanted to play the waiting game. Like a fool I said yes, not knowing that aggravation and adventurer that awaited me.
I like the speed run, also I used it to help me on my "The Last Guardian".

Well while this was about my 4th play through I managed to get the trophy. I wasn't following the video time but I was about 3hrs in about the same time the video was and I tried to stay ahead of where the video was.
Placing 4 barrels INSIDE the injured Trico is the worst ****** part of the whole game. Thanks to the impossible bull**** physics in this game, the barrels can just bounce off his beak and 10 feet in the air

You can actually climb the chains quicker.
Instead of holding up, just press up, as soon as the boy is holding the chain again, press up. If you carry on doing this in this kind of rhythm you will climb chains a lot faster.

Wow, just started a speedrun and the part at around 40:00 when he's supposed to jump he just sits there looking around and smelling the ivy. Smh, I'm honestly so glad this is my last trophy. This game is frustrating as hell.
Amamalian You're suppose to go through that small hole in the wall where the ivy is to lure Trico to jump onto the pillar. Run down there and he jumps up straight away, then you go back and climb up his tail. That's how you're suppose to proceed, but everyone just sits there for 20 minutes waiting for Trico to make a move instead of trying something else. Having to wait for a character to be in the right mood to progress would be stupid game design.

@Vandole I respectfully disagree. Every game made by them just has some of the worst mechanics of any video game in history. It COULD’VE been a great game, and I do love the ending don’t get me wrong. But trying to speed run a game like this is just not the way it should be played. I was so glad to have finished all the trophies to never have to play it again. Also this was like 3+ years ago, I don’t even really play video games anymore 🤷🏻. But I still stand by that mechanically, it’s a very poorly designed game, along with everything else they’ve made.

This trophy was ridiculous, especially considering the terrible controls, Trico's faulty AI and the camera. Luckily, I got mine. I clocked in at about 5:30 though because of Trico so i'm guessing there is some allowance on the time taken to get the trophy. Thanks for the guide.

Butt FYI, unless you have a capture card, it'll be hard to stream a speedrun of this game because anytime you quit the game it stops the stream
and you will have to quit the game when you screw up or take too long to do something. Otherwise you'll miss the trophy. Make sure you back up your saves often too
I suggest using power pyx's playthrough to gauge your progress. He did skip the cutscenes though, so if you can, stop the stopwatch during cutscenes so your run will match his more accurately.

There's no "Glitches" in this game, only ones that take you out of the map or make Trico ride him into the void XD

Not really, it was the only bit making me feel uneasy when doing it. Although if you go for the speed-run last, you will have some idea of how the areas of the game are set up, and where there will be an area which will be roughly where the checkpoint is.

HolySinner There's a option on the Fine FeatherPainter that allows you to revert Trico back to his original colour. It's like a grey colour, but it looks similar to the black one, so be careful xD

Got the Intensive Care trophy with this since i missed it on my first playthrough, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, i just removed any spears i saw in Trico after a fight, be they intact or broken

Revo♥RaFalen Yes. When using the Fine Featherpainter item, cycle through the colors until you get to the one that doesn't have a colored beam shooting out from it. That is what you use to paint him his original colors.

No, Trico eating you is an unavoidable part of the story and required to progress further. He doesn't actually kill the boy, just spits him out again.
If I get stucked (or Trico) and lose for example 1 minute then just restarting the checkpoint didn't count that 1 minute?
It would be better to reload a backup save. I know restarting checkpoints keeps track of your kills and trophy progress (which is why you can farm combat trophies by restarting checkpoints). So I would assume it does count the time between checkpoint restarts as well.
Make a backup save every 10-20 minutes and restore it if something goes wrong. I wouldn't worry too much about 1 minute delays, that happened to me too a few times (glitchy Trico). If you are stuck for 3-5 minutes reload the save game.

Actually got the trophy. Well, I made 4 restarts in "water" levels, got +/- 7 deaths. 0 copy/paste save data. I just wandering what was my time. Maybe 4:55 or somethig, hah.

I died but when I was falling I kept hitting the option button to go back to last check point but it wouldn't let me so it let me die what should I do? I don't want to end up having to do another run down to get the no deaths trophy.

i'm trying for the trophy myself, but feel like my run got ruined in the part at 2:10:32. I easily lost about 20 - 30 minutes to this, his tail just would not fall down. i ended up restarting checkpoint and trying again, which eventually worked. It has to be that, mixed with some unfortunate deaths and me missing things cause i'm getting ahead of myself. i might have to try again, but really i'm not sure how to do that section quicker.
just a follow up. i did manage to somehow beat the game in under 5 hours, though i would imagine i barely did it. I must have died about 4-5 times, plus getting stuck down in the water part waiting for his tail. So a little bit surprised, i must have been going pretty fast through the rest of it XP
