Nice contest - I made up my mind on this one a long time ago...I love the Railmaster. I dig the GS, but the sizing, movement and dial details (denim is my choice) on the Omega make this one an easy decision for me.
I’ve tried on the Omega and it’s a beaut on the wrist, the modest lug to lug and thickness makes it a very wearable watch. With the tech, it competes with everything in the $5k range.
Omega is nice but much more common feeling whereas the GS Seiko offers the punch of craftsmanship and pizazz at a better price point. Winner....GS Seiko by a TKO
I love my Grand Seiko SBGA283 already, but I appreciate it even more when I hear Tim talking about the hand finishing, etc. A ton of value for the price I paid.
I own a Grand Seiko and a Railmaster. The Railmaster is my daily wear to work. I have a physical job, I’m around magnets everyday, I don’t want to broadcast that I own an expensive watch at work for several reasons. I never worried about having a watch that could take a ride with me in a CAT scan until it happened- no problem with the watch. So that Railmaster (black dial), it’s the perfect work watch for me. That said, my SBGW269 is on another level for sure.
The vertical striped dial texture for the 220.10.40.20.06.001 is lost in the video compression. Looks like a completely different watch in the metal (or in a less lossy image format...).
I have both, although different versions (black dial RM). Honestly, I prefer the Railmaster and it is certainly more accurate and consistent. But that is just because it suits my style better- I like the low key all brushed look and rustic look of the dial. I love GS and the dials are amazing, but the super high polish doesn't suit my style most of the time. I wear the GS when I want to dress up a bit, but I wear the RM 90% of the time.

The only problem with GS is that their movements are all so thick, whether it's Spring Drive or Auto. I still love my Snowflake but GS really need to reign in their case sizes.
I agree. I have two GS and while I love them they ride relatively high. Their case design does a lot to mitigate it, but it would be my biggest complaint about an otherwise great watch. I notice that their new elegance line is considerably thinner, but none of them are automatics either.
I think my favourite part of these versus video's is hearing your personal preference Tim, I hope you keep adding that little touch at the end. Oh yeah and for me, this one's a tie. GS modernity = Omega coolness.
I have a GS spring drive but it just doesn't do it for me. Not a fan of the bracelet and the overall feel of the watch. Really close to trading or selling for an Omega Speedmaster moon watch or the new Omega Seamaster 300M.
Tim, love your reviews brother. You sure can talk about watches lol. I am by no means a youtuber lol but I just made a 2 min review of the 2019 Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Casamigos. Only 80 released in the world lol and I lucked into this one.
The Grand Seiko dial, at times, simply looks unreal. And I mean that in the best way. I prefer the new GS logo without Seiko on the dial. But I am most intrigued with the Omega movement with coaxial escapement.
I think the comparison should be between this GS and the Omega AT, ignoring the date/no date differentiation. As for this GS vs. this Railmaster, I'd have to give it to Grand Seiko. Give me the denim Railmaster or the last generation Railmaster and my answer might change.
2:32 Such bad pairing for the endlinks and the case ... There is about 1 mm of play of the endlink against the case. I am a huge Seiko fan, but if this is also a problem at the Grand Seiko Series, I would not buy the watch. The whole watch is lovely, especially the finish and the dial work, but with such a amount of bracelet play, this would be a No Go. Nice video as always!
I choose the Grand Seiko because of the blue steel second hand the polished indexes and Horus and Min hands and the polished case and bracelets. I also like the GS display case back.
I am a great Omega fan for all the reasons you pointed out! But that dial, I just feel that the hour markers float up to the sapphire case...it just does not work for me!
Not a proper comparison. RM is a tool watch, fully brushed for its purpose. And you forgot to mention the antimagnetic feature of Omega, vs almost none of GS. I have both BTW!
I prefer the design of the GS to the Omega, however for all day usability, I’ll take the model with the lumed dial every time. I wish GS offered lume (such as on the GMT) on more of their models, as it’s the only thing tipping me towards the Railmaster (I prefer a date though, so give me an Aqua Terra over either of these).
Late to this party. 2 very different watches. Not a good comparison. The omega is the ultimate tool watch. Just bought one. Have one on its way. The GS is more of a dressy sport watch. Hand finished, gorgeous polishing, no lume. Not a tool watch. A better comparison would have been the GS sbgp015, except it is a quartz. Less expensive also. Anti magnetic, slab side brushed case, armored bezel, lume. 10 second a yr accuracy. Tough watch like the railmaster.
Let's talk about not a retro-quasi-pastiche... I don't know how many vintage cliches I'm looking at here, all I know is that it's a bucket-full. That, my friends, is poetry.
Don't mean to offend anyone but this particular Omega looks cheap, more like a low grade Omega replica. No other Omega watch is this bad. The Grand Seiko is certainly a walkover winner. Well, if you have set your heart on the GS, get the latest version GS without the Seiko branding instead. That would complete it.
I don’t care if the GS’s case and bracelet were assembled and finished by hand by Maestro Abraham Louis Breguet himself... I cannot pay multiple Thousand Dollars for a Dial that has S-E-I-K-O written on it! Sorry Seiko fanboys!
Yeah, because Seiko is eminently bad or the Demon or something. I would totally understand your reservations if the dial had the brand C-H-I-L-D-M-O-L-E-S-T-E-R, W-A-L-M-A-R-T or R-O-L-E-X on it.
@@sublim3princ371 Or just like you, there is something about it he doesnt like. I actually design watches and I understand what he is saying. I guess the fact that I have a degree in engineering and have been designing for more that 29 years means I have a lack of understanding in Horology. Maybe not so judgemental next time. Each is entitled to their opinion, as you are without the judgment.
The Omega should destroy the Seiko by virtue of the technology that’s therein. But I’d have the Seiko. Even though I’m an Omega owner and fan. That railmaster is greyer than Gandalf. It lacks visual appeal. The Seiko appears far more easy on the eye. The Omega is visually anorexic. That’s a shame, given the class of what’s inside that watch....

No contest on this one, its gotta be the Grand Seiko.

Is it me or the GS bracelet top endlink looks loose af? I had a GS Snowflake and it was much tighter than this GS.

OMEGA for me🏆🤘

I have the GS for the spring drive and the beauty of the finishing - and I want the Omega for the Co-axial movement.
Me too 😋😊
The Grand Seiko dial, at times, simply looks unreal. And I mean that in the best way. I prefer the new GS logo without Seiko on the dial. But I am most intrigued with the Omega movement with coaxial escapement.
I would say that it would be easy to size the Grand Seiko bracelet if you are a neurosurgeon. I have never seen smaller screws on a bracelet.
Put the omega movement in the GS case and you’ve sold me

Tim, nice comparison 👍 I was going to buy the Railmaster but noticed the movement is tiny in the case. It looks ridiculous. 😢
GS is nicer than omega in this case. Good job as always Tim 👍🏻
I choose the Grand Seiko because of the blue steel second hand the polished indexes and Horus and Min hands and the polished case and bracelets. I also like the GS display case back.
The finishing of the seiko ....
omega railmaster on denim strap is much more interesting
Omega for the lume and thinner profile.
GS for the finishing.
Tough choice. Both are nice. Omega is sportier and GS is dressier. I guess.
I am a great Omega fan for all the reasons you pointed out! But that dial, I just feel that the hour markers float up to the sapphire case...it just does not work for me!

GS is my pick for this.
GS all day any day in this matchup. The Omega just looks flat and borderline boring in comparison.
The modern Railmaster is in my opinion a design classic, but the Seiko is just beautiful. I genuinely cannot pick a favourite.
Huge Omega fan but GS wins this and it's not even close. The Railmaster is way too overhyped IMO. The Aqua Terra on the other hand...
GS by a country mile.
Let's talk about not a retro-quasi-pastiche... I don't know how many vintage cliches I'm looking at here, all I know is that it's a bucket-full. That, my friends, is poetry.
GS all day, every day.
I think the Omega looks more unique and interesting but looks aside the Grand Seiko is the more incredible watch. I'd pick up the Seiko.
Don't mean to offend anyone but this particular Omega looks cheap, more like a low grade Omega replica. No other Omega watch is this bad. The Grand Seiko is certainly a walkover winner. the Omega dial is tacky
the GS looks too sterile
I don’t care if the GS’s case and bracelet were assembled and finished by hand by Maestro Abraham Louis Breguet himself...

blazinmark1 your loss.

Lack of understanding in the field of horology is why you say that. Ask any real Enthusiasts. You much just have money to burn.

Sorry but the Japanese watch wins by a country mile. Not even close.
The Omega looks atrocious
GS looks like an old guy watch
