When my son was about 10 he became so hysterical watching this he ran across the room, hid behind the curtains and screamed help me whilst laughing manically. A favourite memory thanks reeves and Mortimer

- It's really an evolution of *Vic Reeves' Big Night Out* - Which I didn't pick up on, back then (I remember it feeling quite different, but I can now clearly see the thru-line, from this distance)

And this was 2 years before Phoenix nights. Not only did that rip off 'The Club' sketch but a lot of the cast from Phoenix Nights accused Peter Kay of not giving the cast writing credits, as a lot of it was ad libbed. It makes sense as Max and Paddy was nowhere near as funny as Phoenix Nights.

what i love about British telly is that it all looks like a spoof from a major show in America, both countries pretending its also a first world country.
Ive seen an episode with Reeves and Mortimer where, as far as I understood, they live as a family and have an idiot daughter who has an idiot boyfriend, but i cant track it anywhere and have no idea what its called. Does this ring a bell with anyone here? thnx and thanks for uploading this.

Seriously, I love surreal humor (Spike Milligan, Monty Python, et al), and therefore I despise lazy randomness, which its creators legitimize by calling it "surreal." Every person in the world can scrape together a random pile of shit and call it "surreal," but it becomes neither surreal nor skilled.

While I’m a big fan of Reeves and Mortimer’s work, I’ve never seen this before and it’s shite, frankly.
I disagree but its not everyone cup of tea. I think this is just a lot of stuff they wanted to get out of their system before going onto their other work.
@@soeffingwhat No. I think they either can't be bothered, or they've run out of ideas. I mean, it's not as if they are all over TV screens these days. They've bitten the dust. Quite deservedly so. This is from 23 years ago, remember.
I saw it back in '99 and thought it was hit and miss. Returning to it now, my opinion hasn't changed at all. There's an 'Oh, that'll do' attitude that comes across in quite a few sketches, making it seem half-baked and slapdash. Props to Vic and Bob trying to do something different (it's certainly much darker than The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer), but I'm baffled as to why so many people seem to think this ranks among their best work.
