- Here is my take on the King Diamond classic Welcome Home.

My recording setup:

I record and mix nowadays through a Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2
DAW:
I use Reaper for the little editing I do and a few master plugins. Will probably mix in the box more later on, but for now (2020) i think i will stick with the StudioLive until i feel I've got the hang of it 🙂.

Always get an excellent job watching drum covers from you!!! Haven't even picked up any mistakes from your drumming! Great to see another perfectionist, like myself! Lol! One more thing, I like the sound of your clear pinstripe heads, compared to your coated? Don't get me wrong, they both sound great. I think you tune them well and your mic system. But the clears just have a little better sound to me? That is just MY opinion.
Thanks, i would say the coated heads fit better with the Maiden songs, and clear heads fit more metal songs like this one. But as always, it’s a matter of personal taste 👍

Damnit, man...I was introduced to King Diamond way back in 1988 when I received the band's third release, "THEM" in a middle school trade deal. From the intro, Out From The Asylum, to the albums' epilogue, Coming Home (or Phone Call, if you have the bonus tracks), I became absolutely obsessed with anything and everything associated with King Diamond. As a drummer, myself, I have been greatly influenced by Mikkey Dee's style from those first 4 KD records. So, yeah, I'm really diggin' your cover of Welcome Home (to say the least lol)...killer sound, killer execution, and you obviously have great tastes. Stay heavy and long live the King 🤘

This is a brilliant interpretation of Welcome Home, a great KD song, I would have liked maybe a bit more hit on the ride bell for the eighth notes, you know the Mikee Dee signature, and I would have chocked the crash symbal at 4:07, but it's only personal preference. Your intro as well as the your fills on toms and kicks sound absolutely awesome, everytime I listen to them (your own fills as well) it's like.. wow, that's it man!
I usually don't have the time to nail all the details I would like, but it's pretty close to what I wanted. I would say it is a mix between Mikkey's and Matt's way of playing the song, along with some of my own thoughts. Thanks for the support!🙂

Was it difficult to learn? Because Mickey Dee is changing rhythm all the time and those fulfilments. Especially at the end.
Not really, it felt pretty much straight on to learn.

Thanks! Try slowing the video down with SHIFT+, (comma) to see the intro. Mikkey Dee shows the correct intro on his Instagram if you want it straight from the master.
