      @@escapedlunatic27 controlling your emotions can be very good because sometimes your opponent will miss the blunder if he isn’t looking for it. If you have a reaction you know you have something to look for.
      I sometimes fake being slightly upset about a move to trick my opponent into falling for traps. I once touched my bishop while my queen was hanging and went to touch the queen after a reaction. My opponent said “touch move”. I faked being mad, moved the bishop, they took the queen and got mated on the next move.

    You were surely lucky Anna ! Time is one of the parameters in chess, just as material and positioning of the pieces. GMs say that in order to save thinking time , you must think each line once and avoid pondering the same and the same again. Also, when one has an overwhelming position, (s)he can avoid searching for the most complicated line and go for the easiest to handle, especially when in time trouble. Engines can find the way through any position no matter how hard the moves to find are, but we need something more practical .For instance, minus 2.5 or 4.6 means nothing to us if one needs to find 5 consecutive accurate moves to take the maximum of the advantage of the position.

    @negativenancy3738 Год назад

    The line Anna was hoping for, with the Knight sacrifice on c3 after she had played hxg6, brings up something I’ve learned what not to do in Classical tournaments. That being, “falling in love”.
    It happens to a lot of us, we see the current position, it’s our turn, and there’s plenty of time to make our move. So we look at what’s available to us, and by doing so, we scope out some possible lines that we find either interesting and or favorable. The catch however being that our opponent must play into them. Even if the line looks guaranteed, it will never be, so long as it isn’t forced.
    It’s okay to play into our interests, so long as they aren’t disadvantageous to us, if our opponent chooses to stray off the line we had hoped for. If the line relies on our opponent to play into, while also creating advantages for them for if they choose not to, then us playing into them will never be worth it. So then why do we play into these sort of lines? There’s countless reasons as it all depends on the situation in regards to the circumstances, however, what I’ve noticed to be consistent with these positions and circumstances, is that these lines are ones that we choose to “fall in love” with. Seeing them only as we choose to see them, being willing fully blinded by what we choose not to see within them, whether it be due to subconscious reasons or not, we must not allow our feelings to get in the way.
    As the phrase goes, “love will lead you astray”, in these cases, they actually do. My tip to avoiding these infatuations during play, are to look into the flaws and not allow ourselves to be blinded by what we so desperately desire. Be disciplined with your feelings, strict with expectations, humble with your imagination, and respect your opponent.
    If you can spot the flaws with lines you create in your mind, assume your opponent can as well. Don’t fear your opponent, but don’t underestimate them either. Only during these long classical formats, could you truly begin to understand them. Making this your goal, may be something greater all together to achieve. Now I don’t “fall in love” with all these “what if’s”. Now I simply “fall in love” with the connections I make with my opponents, by understanding how much I can understand of their minds and as well as how much I know they understand of my own. Play them enough, and you’ll know exactly what they’ll play into, because you’ll know what lines they’d “fall in love” with.

    I HAVE A SERIOUS QUESTION, when you walk away from the game, how do they make sure you don’t go look at lines on the toilet just cheat somehow?? i’m actually curious thanks

      You’re not allowed to have your phone on you. Of course, it wouldn’t be that hard to cheat

    I'm an old guy who hasn't really played chess in 30 years. Now I really like to watch others with agadmator.
    When you said "positional" it goes in one ear and out the other. After watching your opponent now I get it. Her brilliant moves were positional.
    Question: how good would you be without computers?????
    I had to beg for games when I was your age. I won several local tournaments but gave up when the kids came and also couldn't find opponents. I sometimes wonder what my rating would be.
    I love how you wear your heart on your sleeve.

      That's great. You would have been probably well over 2300. That's my guess. It all depends on your dedication and hard work. It sounds like you have talent for chess. I wish I had talent for the game :( but I still love to play.
      Now your can play a game online 24/7 you don't have to look for opponents like many years ago.
