Hopes are up. Also hoping co-op is just as good. (This also shares the opening couple of seconds with remembrance from DQVIII, I'd recommend giving the orchestral version a listen.)
I am a grown man, and hearing this song while replaying the game and reaching Marion and Marionette's final conversation together made me cry, and that's okay.
[LONG, RAMBLY COMMENT WARNING] This game is absolutely fantastic. The only things that held it back were the DS's graphical limitations and even then it looked surprisingly good, considering that the DS and 3D models really didn't mix (at least in my opinion). If they remade it for the 3DS, it would make masterful use of the extra graphical beef. Heck, might make our OC protagonist look less blank. I dunno, give them SOME extra animation. They looked like a sodding puppet in cutscenes. Cataarhina's death was easily the first time the game properly sat you down and pulverised your feels in front of you. The thing with the Wight Knight was sad and all, don't get me wrong, but Phlegming sealing the Hillbilly Curse-I mean, Ragin' Contagion away only to find out that his wife had died to the curse AS HE WAS SEALING IT AWAY was such a slap to the face. And then, you think back, and remember every single time she coughed while she was talking. Pretty much every time she talked, and it got worse as it went on. It was a massive foreshadow, and likely one that was ignored, as she herself passes it off as something gone down her throat or similar. And then you realise that it was right there the whole time and if you hadn't sent so long farming bloody Metal Slimes you might have saved her. (Well, or not; it is coded in that she dies regardless of how long you take, but you know what I mean.) It instills a feeling of guilt, of personal responsibility, and then you realise that you can't do everything. You're special, but you can't save everyone. DQ6 did something like this, with the town that was attacked by disaster after disaster until you finally fail to save it from a veritable tidal wave of caterpillar monsters, but it was far more heavy handed with it. This game pulls it off far more subtlety. You learn to expect the odd casualty, which is set up perfectly here. This is the part that tells you that you can't save everyone from everything. You're just one person, and not every ending can be a happy one. And as much of a slap across the face as it is, it still gives a feeling of wanting to try ever harder to save more people. To help more. That is why this is such a masterpiece of storytelling. It may seem simple on the surface, but it is a beautiful bit of plot, and the reason why this game remains one of my all-time favourite games.
Holy fuck i remember the times when i was 12 and sat there, playing the game and crieing every time this song came while a sad scene. the nostalgia is real.
I played this game a while ago, and the saddest moment for me was Marion's last conversation with Marionette where she told the doll to go back to doll form. that got me
Agreed, the story about her was probably the only one that genuinely made me cry, not to say that the others weren’t incredible, because they certainly were!
Think about what happened afterwards! She gave you the Fygg and turned back into a doll, leaving everyone else to realize that the actual Marion was suddenly gone!
Dragon Quest 9 was the first one I played, and it got me hooked on the others, but it was so full of memories. All the victories and the defeats... This song still makes me want to cry.
All those things in the game made me cry too. This song just makes it all even sadder. ;w; I cried over Marion and Marionette too. Dragon Quest IX made me so emotional. D':
Aquilia's death was even worse to me because Aquilia reminds me a lot of my dad. Appearance wise and character wise. That scene just broke my heart in two
bro i couldnt kill the fucking spider boss, but I already pieced together what had happened. Even knowing what would happen, when it finally did, I still fucking teared up. I think I was 9 or 10 (game came out a year before I bought it), I remember being confused that a game made me cry but also impressed.
grew up playing this game and i fucking love it man honestly one of if not the best game i have ever played has such a good storyline and for a DS game the graphics and mechanics are insane
Edit: This theme played when I lost the game... :( This game is such an emotional roller coaster. I'm close to finishing it but I'm grinding right before I get to the final section of the game just so I wont lose and have to wait before finishing the story.
I'm doing the game again, when you hear this music for the first time while burying the doctor's wife it makes you want to cry too much. The music in this game is really amazing !
I loved this game, it was such a trade up from Hand of the Heavenly Bride. The gameplay was expansive, the soundtrack was addictive and I found myself forever changing classes as there were so many options! Hand of the heavenly bride is still a game every dragonquest fan should play. It's story is amazing. I played Dragon Quest Heroes on PS4, i like the direction Enix tried to go for for this game, but I miss Sentinels already haha... Probably gonna do another playthrough.
I still stand by this statement a year later, how he realises he can't keep protecting her, and that she's growing up gets me every time. Even though Jona, Mayor Bryce and Bryson being able to see Dylan is a bit confusing, I still love the scene, and I love it still.
No, you're not alone. Such a touching scene. Especially when Bryson promises to take care of Jona. It should make anyone with a heart cry. As for why everyone else could see Dylan, let's just chalk it up to the power of the Fygg.
Jazzypants2007 He kind of does. Lets face it, he saved Serena as well as all of Wormwood creek. Fought off the Gittish Empire and ended up surviving all the torture that the empire put him through.
Princess Zelda Corvus was a hero! He was the only one who dared counter the tyrannic Almighty and his iron rule. He led the monster rebellion but was cowardly murdered by Nine, that despot God's hound! Jk XD
Alex Ortmann ...Only to stupidly believe some random shithead in the Empire telling him the woman he was falling in love with was in league with them, and letting it pervert him. You know, the people who would do ANYTHING to get their hands on a Celestrian. No, he does NOT deserve this theme. Aren't Celestrians supposed to be wise?
Thinking of death, am I the only one who found it hilarious when one of your party members died, and back in the overworld, they're only a coffin on wheels?
Hope your characters are at lvl 45 and if you have a martial artist or so, psyche up (use fan dango at 50 tension), and buff and heal, update armor as much as possible, gigaslash or gash, i forgot which from the swordmaster in swinesdimple is helpful too
but this games is just undoubtebly addictive for some people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lollllll but also the game totally rocks i reccommed buying it if you can evin find it still in the shops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! excellent role playing game choose your allies fight you foes buy and collect cool weaponary and clothing evin armour! strongly reccommended as i say you must play the game or at least look up a video!
Anime fan... No, just no. One does not simply stay mad at Aquila. Especially (spoilers) if that one has seen the cutscene with him telling how he faked his betrayal in order to protect the world from the Gittish empire. :(
And then he *spoilers* ...Proceeds to sacrifice himself so you could slap Godwyn across the face a few million times, just as planned. You can't stay mad at someone with that amount of dedication.
And he then turns into another brain-dead personality-devoid party member, who you'll probably never use because you already have your 4-man meme squad. Truly, poetry in motion.
I hope that, one day, this game gets a remake for the Switch, and that it manages to retain all of the charm from the original version of the game.
DScribbleF They are talking about remaking it! Get your hopes up!
Hopes are up.
Also hoping co-op is just as good.
(This also shares the opening couple of seconds with remembrance from DQVIII, I'd recommend giving the orchestral version a listen.)
Seance Seance Seance time
The DS graphics that look a bit dodgy at times are part of the nostalgia for me.
I Hope too! This is my favorite game :)
I am a grown man, and hearing this song while replaying the game and reaching Marion and Marionette's final conversation together made me cry, and that's okay.

This game will always have one heck of a place in my heart :,)

Aquilia's death was even worse to me because Aquilia reminds me a lot of my dad. Appearance wise and character wise. That scene just broke my heart in two
the one part in DQ IX that gets me every time is the battle between greygnarl and barbarus honestly.
If I remember correctly, Aquila's sacrifice has the observatory music instead of this one
No Karbon ?
Marionette anyone? The only section in a game that ever made me cry
Yeah that was sad ;((((
And greygnarl's death too :(((

The description of the video is so true
This Music always reminds me of Corvus.
Corvus doesn't deserve this theme.
Corvus was a bitch. But the only sad thing is that before that disgusting form of himself, he was a beautifully kind angel..
