I installed Pergo laminate over 20 years ago. The good news is that it literally looks the same now as the day I installed it. It wears like iron. The bad news is that it still looks the same now as the day I installed it. It looks like early 2000s laminate flooring and desperately needs updating.
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
As a owner of 49c per sq ft traffic master flooring in my basement can confirm that liquid swells at the seams, although with 3 dogs its pretty scratch resistant
the water resistance is almost more important imho....... first laminate i saw was in a hall in a rental i had and it looked like total trash. and it was the separating and delaminating. a few scratches isn't nearly as visible. and the same at a place my dad lived in later. kitchen/dining was with this cheap stuff apparently and it looked so bad. even drips of water had puffed out.
the goo-gone on that spray paint is AMAZING. i'm about to go use a little on a small spot of wood stain that wasn't wiped up well and stained some vinyl floor i put down. ironically, if you let it sit as a drip, beaded, it pops right up with a painter's tool. same with regular paint.
vinyl is considered more tough, scratch resistant, and is better dealing with water. i researched this a few months back when i needed to put floors down.
Just found your channel about a week ago and have been binging. Love your stuff!! When breaking your dishes, where was your protection for your eyes?!? I was concerned 😆 Another great video and it really did answer how much difference there is between the cheap and expensive.
Excellent and entertaining video and in a world where it's all LVP this shows the potential strengths and weaknesses of laminate well. Also i have an Arlo Pro 4 with spotlight and it's excellent 👍
For what it's worth I do believe that that brand of Pergo is waterproof. I know that we had a similar version of that at Lowe's that claimed to be waterproof and was laminate.
I love the simplicity of the security system, but it seems like Kids or anyone who wanted to go just walk around and just pull the cameras right off your house. It looks like they’re magnets.
My house unfortunately has the cheap laminate flooring(installed by previous owner) and I can say it is just as bad in normal everyday conditions as the torture test lol. Will be replacing with LVP soon
Very entertaining. Some if those things usually don't happen, however, I'm glad those dish shards didn't fly into your eyes (considering no safety glasses).😉 It's my workplace safety training coming through.😆 Good to know for future reference if wood is out of our price range. Good plug for Goo Gone!
Great idea - I think it’d be interesting to compare more options besides the most expensive vs the least. Is a $2/sqft laminate closer to the cheap or expensive performance? Something like that would be genuinely decision-useful
The "cheapest possible laminate" is legitimately the one used in the floors of my condo. 🤣 It legitimately hummocks (and discolours) just when you mop it. He's telling the truth here. Don't get it.
That is hilarious, we installed that same cheap flooring (but in white oak) in our house about 5 years ago now, and it is still solid as a rock, with very little noticeable damage. We did have one area that had some water damage due to a fish tank that blew up but was easily repaired with a few new planks. We did however seal the floor with Zep Laminate floor sealer
Great Idea... but having a mid range, something in btw would be much more appreciated. It's a lovely video but having a mid range value would outstand the result?
I wish you would do dog pee, my dogs always do this and the laminate is buckling after 6 months. She is an older Chihuahua and going blind. I am going to just rip everything up and have my concrete finished….LOL 😅
It's like the project farm youtube channel just without any science lol. Keep the entertainment coming until you can learn to teach aka fake it till ya make it! You tried...

Same problem here

During the cleanup when you went with Pine Sol, I immediately said Goo Gone. It cleans up paint very well
this is a new revelation for me. can't wait!. not paint, but a little wood stain, here goes!

So I am in the market of buying a house and expect to redo the flooring. This video is incredibly helpful, thank you so much for making this content!
"oh noooo i dropped all these nails..!" 😂 hahahaaa dude that got me. top tier.

I have the Pergo flooring and it actually is rather good, but I suppose I could have saved some cash! But I like the wide planks.
What is the difference with laminate and luxury vinyl planks?
vinyl is considered more tough, scratch resistant, and is better dealing with water. i researched this a few months back when i needed to put floors down.
This one of the coolest video I have seen wish you had added the vinyl one since that's what I put in my house a month ago
I love your content you have made me laugh thanks for showing me what type of flooring to buy five stars

😂😂😂😂😂 "has this ever happened to you?" i legit laughed out loud at the dropped barbell
Which is better porcelain tiles vs laminate floors in bedrooms. I want to remove the carpets. Thanks
Mr. Build It, you shall do the LVP as well. I cannot decide on my options at HD as well. That would be a great content for all of us to watch! Thanks!

No pets 🐶? Next best thing bear claws! 🐻 😂 😂 😂 😂
😂😂 oh no I dropped all these nails, ( proceeds to walk on them )
Fun torture test video. Throw some safety glasses on when you're smashing stuff. Porcelain in the eye sucks.
That was fun, can’t wait to see how my new luxury vinyl plank holds up over the next 10 years!
You should consider buying a flip house to make a series on
working on it
Did you install those over a 1/2inch to 3/4inch subfloor?

For the record you can void your floors warranty steaming, pine sol, etc if you mess it up don’t mention you did that 😂
Thanks for helping me. 💯. I want good flooring..
I see sooooo many floor sponsors!!

How much for the Mr. Build It art piece? 😂
Great idea! I would have loved to see more of that barbell landing on it.
Next time!
Such a different but fun video!
Thank you!! 😊
Would’ve been interesting to see what the flooring looked like on the back especially after the water test
Thanks this was really great
Glad you enjoyed it!

Found it so much fun watching you I'm sure you must have enjoyed testing the floors☺️🇨🇾
I did!
You didn’t buy the vinyl? Is that because vinyl is so superior?
Interlocking vynil flooring all the fucking way.
Nice
Thanks
Awesome video mate! Do you think you could put it down in the garage and have a car parked on it?
That is hilarious, we installed that same cheap flooring (but in white oak) in our house about 5 years ago now, and it is still solid as a rock, with very little noticeable damage. This seemed very random
As entertaining as this was, it was an even better advertisement for Goo Gone!
right?!
WD 40 DUDE
use gloves all throughout cleaning floor :)
"I don't have any pets but I have the next best thing" (me thinking of his 3 kids. I am so sorry 😂)
If you weren't fighting with the significant other, you are now since you broke her dishes.
So no more hats since the hair transplant, how do you advertise keeps but get the hair transplant? 🤣
I am guessing that the .99¢ one is probably a 8mm and the 3.49$ is 12mm..
