This toy is an absolute, glorious monster, especially in the art of panel-forming and compressing. I'd want that on my shelf just to have a testament to the modern skill of toy transformation designing.
If you haven't already bought it, I'd recommend him. He's got really good hand-feel. Nice snug tabs all over, provided you remember all the places stuff pegs into. That said, the floppy cab bits are a pain in the butt during transformation. So there's a place where you can take out one screw per half and have the cab separate from the trailer. And right at that unscrewing point, there's even black pieces shaped like a trailer hitch so it doesn't look unsightly. This mod makes transforming him so much more enjoyable, I'm really surprised Fans Toys didn't just go ahead and make the screw-peg a pop-in-and-out peg.
@@AlexReynard I'd love that, sadly, my budget for new toy purchases is rather scarce and I'm not sure when I'll capable of buying something of this wallet caliber again. But one can always look and smile in awe at the feats of modern engineering in the meantime :)
It's insane how the truck panels tuck in so neatly. People were complaining about the panel backpack but I can't see any problem with it considering how awesome the end product is. Just great engineering!
4 years later, this thing is still just as impressive. It’s got the usual Fans Toys linkages and the amount of panels and faux parts that the design makes basically unavoidable, but they really went and made a cab plus trailer Motormaster, something no one else has tried since as of now.
It's certainly clever, but the trailer itself is a natural fit for all the combiner bits. I preferred the XTB approach (although it had the normal sort of XTB flaws).
@@peolesdru Yeah I actually agree. I was trying to decide how to feel about their newly-revealed ‘second trailer’ approach to the combiner parts and just thought they do get points for uniqueness for going all in on the cab + trailer bot. However, yeah between Magic Square, X Transbots, and Hasbro’s Legacy one, gotta say the bot as the cab is really the way to go. Curious to see if Hasbro tries a pickup plus separate trailer take on Onslaught now, but it’s doubtful.
The fact you made this look so easy is amazing! When I tranformed mine I thought that you'd have a really hard time with this one. Plus the order you used is SO much better than the instructions which bounce all over the place!!!
@4:12 the third transformation the one done the fastest is how long it would take for the cartoon to actually draw out the steps of the transformation. It would take 40 seconds to transform back and forth. Could you imagine the show having all that? Haha
It's pretty stand-alone. The only whiff of it's combiner future is a lock at the groin that allow his hips to swing backwards. You apparently turn him into a cube and stick him into the combiner upper body. Should be very solid, but not really my kind of combiner.
I feel like Motormaster should be an exception for excessive panel forming, considering his alt-mode and design. I mean what else you gonna do outside of parts-forming and this. Anyway cool video as always, how hard was this?
it's to make it accurate to the cartoon animation models, which tended to... bullshit most of their transformations by practically melting into their altmode like clay.
Great video man. You make it look easy. Question: why open with the faux-headlight reveal and smokestacks and then immediately move on to the trailer, as opposed to leaving those until you were transforming the cab? Struck me as slightly disjointed, but I know basically nothing about cinematography and such.
The truck-mode smokestacks get in the way when I fold the cab up to stand him up (prior to going back and doing the legs) I noticed the faux headlights after I had already done my scripting and I didn't want to end up in a corner later where I couldn't do them, so I knocked them out along with the smokestacks at the start.
So the smokestacks in particular were a quality-of-life to make the shoot easier. You can certainly wait for them and the headlights until later when you don't have to stand him on a platform.
Normally I'd come down on an MP-scale TF for having an overly panel-y transformation, but I think it's pretty unavoidable for Motormaster. Seeing the classic Fanstoys "large linkage and hinge assembly" thing again though.
In fact, ft released four more figures: their interpretations of scourge, powerglide, chromodome, and a second interpretation of brawn, but it doesn't look like him
@@peolesdru i think fans toys is gonna focus more on the individual characters rather than the combiner, its probably gonna be like zeta toy Kronos where the whole combiner torso is just a shell, but i hope not
wow! fanstoys releases new figures faster than takara. i searched to see if takara has what ft has, like aerialbots, and they don't. i don't know whether takara's next figures will be any good or not. this a conflict of interest, and worse, xtransbots has their ultra magnus, and it looks good
The one thing reviewers do well is show off the articulation. After the transformation mechanics, I'm never in much of a mood to show off the articulation limits.
Can you describe it more or give me a timecode? I can't figure out what part your're referring to. Either way, sorry if I missed it. I had to turn around Roadking and MMC Springer in less than a week so in the rush it wouldn't surprise me if something was missed.
At the very beginning already in truck mode there's two tiny panels that aren't folded out so there's a small Gap in the trailer close to the robot armpit hinges

I'm astonished you got this figure so quickly, and banged out a stop motion of its incredibly lengthy transformation so quickly!
Got him and Saltus on Sat. Have to ship them back by Fri. So I'll have to do a mid week shoot for Saltus.
i love how even though the purple stripe is broken up, it is still accurate to the g1 toy and cartoon
Engineering is impressive to hide all the bulk! Great transformation sequence especially the last part with the arms.
Love the order - complicated parts first, easy steps last! So smooth animation too!
It just happened to go that way. Some stuff just has to be done before other stuff.

Thanks. Whenever possible I try to finish working with a chunk once I start on it. The instructions were terrible, which is often the case.

That is on helluva complex transformation.
And to top it all off, to animate it in stop motion.
Amazing job man!
Thanks!
Amazing transformation beautifully expressed. This is such a cool figure.
This is such an amazing figure... AND VIDEO! 2019 figure of the year. Zeta core star 2020 figure of the year.
Name: Motormaster. Faction: Decepticon. Function: Stunticon leader. Vehicle mode: Kenworth K100 semi truck. Subgroup: Stunticons. Motto:” These wheels are made for crushing.”
Hey, you’re not Optimus Prime. Motormaster: I am the Kenworth K100 E semi truck you saw, man, but I’m afraid I’m not Optimus Prime.
Magnificent! I'd get this just as a stand-alone!!! Tremendous job on the vid!!!

I'll get them, RUclips willing.

Great video! But I'm always left wondering with these G1 MPs, how does a blocky truck take a million folds and twists to become a blocky robot?
it's to make it accurate to the cartoon animation models, which tended to... bullshit most of their transformations by practically melting into their altmode like clay.
@@thoth7290 That is the perfect explanation for how they used to animate those, thanks for that.
I’ve waited all day for this yay

Evolution of transformers transformation
Great engineering but that trailer is too short. Also robot legs are too thick.
i don't like it when transformations are faked (conserning the feet). i hope fanstoys will give that a good makeover
