I was legit just thinking about how a Green Day musical was probably a lot easier to put together than Mamma Mia since American Idiot was already technically a rock opera
Of course incomparable to Green Day themself, this is Broadway. I have so much respect for both (The band and performers) as a rock musical is never an easy thing to put on or trust a group of people to do! An album is like a child and Billie Joe Armstrong must have had a lot of trust in these guys to let them make it into "American Idiot!" -Broadway Edition-
+Michael Anthony Marella Amazon prime has a documentary about the making of the Broadway show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The band didn't hand pick performers per se but had tons of input and helped produce, giving final approval. they were very proud of it, and Billie Joe actually played Jimmy in some of the performances.
I know all you Green day fans are going to hate me but before you start its thanks to this show that i am a new fan of the band. 1. these guys and girls are actors 2. They are musical performers not rock stars so i think you calling them is wrong. I am going to be defensive because one of my favourite actors was in it and he is an amazing singer.
paumayo JTMFlash no, i don't believe it's playback.. But i guess what he was trying to say is that Billie has that really punk voice and their voices were just too idk.. not punk.
This version isn't as good as the recorded version, so you can't really compare live to recorded... And I'm probably going to get hate for this but I like some of the songs in the musical version than the original GD album...
watching this in 2024 when i saw this show live as a high schooler is making me feel ancient lmao. also where’s the revival!?!? seems v relevant to today’s world imo
The part that the representative of Jingletown sings is the best part in the song. And in the cast version it is actually more eccentric and special. It's more interesting to me than the , never the less awesome, original.
Bro i would love to go to this cus i freaking grew up with green day and it was actually boulevard of broken dreams and wake me up when september ends were the first ever songs i heard,so i wish i went to these shows, and just go feel like im a punk kid again(which i still am)
I really love this, but the only thing that ruffles my feathers is the half-arsed air-punching at about 1:14, I think he was scared about falling but that was pathetic :P
Diana Ruiz just because it's not Green Day. Doesn't mean it sucks it would suck if they were off tempo and way off key. If they have those it does not suck
@darkaura0 Well, the way you wrote it I felt that you were critizing the cast and so on. Maybe they shouldn't censor anything? :O Fear of a word only creates more fear of it... wouldn't you agree?
I saw this play for what it was it was decent. I think the story suffered with the amount of songs they did. It would be like 2 lines of dialogue, some of which was kind of ridiculous & then a song or 3. Also them trying to dance to Green Day was comical. A lot of some weird head banging shoulder move over & over. I'd probably just see a Green Day concert, & probably for less money than a ticket.
I would have LOVED to see the show, and I even love the Broadway album, but tbh, these guys cannot sing. And before you go saying "You're saying that because it's not Billie." hush. I'm fine with people doing covers, but putting these guys as the representatives of the musical kind of makes it look terrible to the public eye.
This is the sixth video I watch with this cast and I just can't believe that in a country with a population of roughly 320 million they couldn't find 3 guys who could actually sing. The Jesus of Suburbia guy reminds me of a spoiled kid, that's even worse. Just put Billie Joe armstrong in there please.
i just thought it was a horrible performance i can have an opinion and the only reason i didn't like it is because i dont like that style of singing and i didnt know that it was on broadway sorry for having my own opinion
zombiekillerdude 2123 I personally like Green Day's performance of the song much more but this entire broadway show was made and written by Billy Joe so he would probably have a good reaction.
The original Broadway cast recording was good, but this performance was a bit off. A lot of times on live TV, they can't get a good sound check, so that might have had something to do with it.
Only Billie can sing this song. It perfectly suits to his voice and his style. Even if you are a good singer, you can't sing Holiday enjoyably, since everyone is used to Billie's voice
I am a big Green Day fan and Who would of thought Broadway and Green Day would have ever worked. This is brilliant
+JOHNNYCFC24 it is the best!
Who would have thought The Who's Tommy would have worked on Broadway, either and yet it did.
I was legit just thinking about how a Green Day musical was probably a lot easier to put together than Mamma Mia since American Idiot was already technically a rock opera
Of course incomparable to Green Day themself, this is Broadway. -Broadway Edition-
From what I have heard, the cast were all picked by the band personally, but I'm not sure if that's accurate
Every so often I just need to come watch this just to see Theo absolutely crush this moment. He’s so compelling.
I strongly agree to this. Who is your favorite actor in here mine is Gerard.
people that not into musical: ew what is this
me: yasss slaaaay
Same
Their voices are too... clean, if you understand what I mean.
playback.. :)
paumayo JTMFlash no, i don't believe it's playback.. But i guess what he was trying to say is that Billie has that really punk voice and their voices were just too idk.. not punk.
Carool Souza it sounds like a lame pop group than Green Day
Joseph well, your opinion :)
JTMFlash It's a broadway show. They're trying to tell a story with the lyrics, therefore it has to be clean.
Man, Theo's part is the absolute best!!
Theo's part gives me chills.
same it is my favorite part!
Theo Stockman SLAYING IT here
great show, this just happened to be a poor performance of it
shame this is what the mainstream got to see of it
I've always loved the part/s where "Can I get an another amen (AMEN)" and Theo's part
It's not exactly weird seeing Moritz Schiefel sing punk pop but it's definitely weird seeing Charlie Price sing punk pop
Also I just realised gerard Canonico is here too omg
@@rend9624 Brian Charles Johnson (Otto from Spring Awakening) as well!
I'm so hooked on this stuff right now xD
I’m in the ensemble of this show and out of all the songs this my favorite one to do
This version isn't as good as the recorded version, so you can't really compare live to recorded... And I'm probably going to get hate for this but I like some of the songs in the musical version than the original GD album...
Only one I though was better was Boulevard, but thats just me.
I like 21 Guns on the cast album better than the original.
I saw this on Bwy w this original cast & it was phenomenal, the best live event I've ever seen.
The broadway play was amazing, I took my little brother with me, it was his first broadway play and he loved it, especially this part.
This is a very off performance of a brilliant work of theatre, don't judge it from here.
wait...so it's playing at the St. Jimmy Theatre?
watching this in 2024 when i saw this show live as a high schooler is making me feel ancient lmao. also where’s the revival!?!? seems v relevant to today’s world imo
My thoughts exactly.
The part that the representative of Jingletown sings is the best part in the song. And in the cast version it is actually more eccentric and special. It's more interesting to me than the , never the less awesome, original.
Their voices feel too clean for punk, but too weak for Broadway....i might be wrong...
I saw it! It was soooo good!
omg this is just perfect someone buy me fucking tickets
Blindsided by the three times people crossed themselves
still great 11 years later
Bro i would love to go to this cus i freaking grew up with green day and it was actually boulevard of broken dreams and wake me up when september ends were the first ever songs i heard,so i wish i went to these shows, and just go feel like im a punk kid again(which i still am)
I think it should be that he'll say "Bang bang" while he shoots at people with Hand gun sign that is triggered and shot!
Loved the orchestral rendition of Basket Case in the beginning lol
The cringe is real
I don't know why this musical got so much hate, looks pretty cool to me ^~^
so off key with the singing
mikes do that to you on live camera
it happens to everyone
❤️
Wanted to see it... looks like that over with.
It does'nt sound like Green Day,but I like this performance. But I prefer the performance of the cast of American Idiot on 21 guns.
Okay why do I see this just after 10yrs!?
The band in the beginning is playing Basket Case
it's a line cook medley. love it
I really love this, but the only thing that ruffles my feathers is the half-arsed air-punching at about 1:14, I think he was scared about falling but that was pathetic :P
This SUCKS
Diana Ruiz just because it's not Green Day. Doesn't mean it sucks it would suck if they were off tempo and way off key. If they have those it does not suck
Diana Ruiz sure does
when I first heard it I thought it was a nineteen year old blonde guy
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
hurts my ears when billie joe doesnt sing
Andrej Korać Mine too
so cool performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was a blast- would go again
i find this so cool and amazing!! love the album
love the gas man part
I always thought that the bridge should've been sung by Johnny.
This is actually pretty good
Which part does Theo stockman play ?
Theo x
Having seen the Stockholm version just yesterday, this vocal performance is substandard to say the least. Like the Mickey Mouse club, for shit's sake.
@darkaura0
Well, the way you wrote it I felt that you were critizing the cast and so on.
Maybe they shouldn't censor anything? :O Fear of a word only creates more fear of it... wouldn't you agree?
I think they were all tense that night I'm not saying they are bad but they've done better
This is good but i vastly prefer it when green day sings it. scince they wrote it to fit theyre voices it sounds better that way
The DOMA version I saw in LA a couple years ago was better than this.
@merbethmango
but the characters they're playing wouldn't be! Gotta go for it or it doesn't work :)
i guess that was the intentional coincidence
@PwnzAllDay34 fucking pissed me off when I realized it was broadway version.
Who knew you could have so much fun with some scaffolding?? I can see all the brickies around liverpool doing that ....
That’s because American idiot isn’t a musical, it’s a rock opera, so there’s minimal dialogue.
Really wanna see this
bit to late
i wanna see this so bad looks like they're comming to albuquerque in dec yay! :D
I would have LOVED to see the show, and I even love the Broadway album, but tbh, these guys cannot sing. And before you go saying "You're saying that because it's not Billie." hush. I'm fine with people doing covers, but putting these guys as the representatives of the musical kind of makes it look terrible to the public eye.
hey cann some one plzz tell me if there are other videos where the cast performs
Omg what the fuck Green day?! This is like "punk" glee
Well they arent as good as green day ,but honestly who is ?!
You have no idea who Green day is do you David? :P
Was the band at the beginning playing Basket Case?
Yes! King for a Basket(?
Bravo!
better than real GD XD jkjkjkjk (not really jk)
I think I found my favourite musical.
The "BIg Bang" part sounded kind of demented. I like it : )
i wanted to go, i couldnt make it tho. but ive heard its reallly good.
the idea is not they sounds like Billie :)
Haha the jazz band was playing Basket Case!
JAZZ BAND WOZ PLAYIN BASKET CASEE !!! ♪
I love the way he says "is not a way that's meant for me"
@THENACHUSKY Yeah! That's right!
I really need to see the musical!! *.*
I liked the fat guy!

billie actually appeared on American idiot, he played jmmy. they all love it
zombiekillerdude 2123 they worked on it. So way to insult them.
i just thought it was a horrible performance i can have an opinion and the only reason i didn't like it is because i dont like that style of singing and i didnt know that it was on broadway sorry for having my own opinion
zombiekillerdude 2123 I personally like Green Day's performance of the song much more but this entire broadway show was made and written by Billy Joe so he would probably have a good reaction.
in my opinion it just sounded very odd and the style doesn't really fit the song
Что за горно
Who's the guy wearing a tank top with an X on it?!?
If I'm not wrong, He's Stark Sands
I love green day but this is terrible
YES!
What are you talking about this is good
Carah Bermudez same
The original Broadway cast recording was good, but this performance was a bit off. A lot of times on live TV, they can't get a good sound check, so that might have had something to do with it.
love thisss
Sounded like an off campus fraternity karaoke night.
Only Billie can sing this song. It perfectly suits to his voice and his style. Even if you are a good singer, you can't sing Holiday enjoyably, since everyone is used to Billie's voice
