Fun fact: Alexey Pajitnov took inspiration from wooden pentomino puzzles when inventing Tetris. He reduced it to Tetrominos in order to make it more simpler with just 7 different pieces rather than 12 or even 18 different pieces. So this is kind of like a what-if. Like if he went on to make it exactly like the pentomino puzzles he played with… it would eventually be a modern Pentris with srs, lol
If we were in Tetris Axis (3DS) or Tetris Party (Wii) then maybe. As for the names, since the Tetris Company didn't put any trademark on 1-/2-/3-/5-mino, the closest you can get is the mathematical term for it, so monomino, domino, tromino and pentomino. ( according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyomino )
In normal gameplay it's not possible to get this kick, yes, but it is still programmed in the game, and here's a proof: ruclips.net/video/4YlDQgBY3ow/видео.htmlm5s
No, they made their wording confusing but only T-Spin is rewarded and gives extra points/damage. I wish all pieces had a bonus but currently the only game I know that does this is Axis soooooo RIP me
SRS has 4 rotation states for each piece, even S and Z, and the letters are codes to identify them. 0 means the spawning state, R is one clockwise rotation from that, 2 is upside-down, and L is one counterclockwise rotation from state 0. Then in the table, the coloured code is the starting state, and the grey code is the ending state, so for example R2 means after one clockwise rotation (state R) rotate clockwise again to get to the upside down state. The different positions are then listed in the order SRS tries them, from 1 to 5. If you want an example to read this chart, you can try to look for the T-Spin Triple setup. Look in either the 0->R or 0->L rotations of the T piece, and by superposing where the T is in the setup with the purple Ts of the chart, you should see how only offset #5 fits. It's not easy to understand at first, i'll give you that. But once you know what things mean having the chart with everything drawn out is a good reference.
Lilla Oshisaure Thank you so much! I'm actully drawing out my own charts too, in a more spacious way and with more stuff labeled. and without the pentominos.. for now. lol
Lilla Oshisaure It took me a while to see the difference between spawning state and 180 rotatrd state for s and z. You dont notice that stuff in game normally.
Well yeah and that's why it becomes a pain to do Z and S spins because not only what direction you rotate in but what state you're in matters too. And about your chart you're free to do your own of course, if yours helps you better then use yours instead. I'm iterested to see what it looks like though.

I’ve done that many times, it’s actually kind of interesting It rewards a TetrisPlus, something usually only achievable in Fusion mode (watch the in game tutorials to see how you’d do it). But it kind of acts strangely in such a situation, in the sense that it actually doesn’t play the line Clear sound for it, despite there being code for it, and that your character will do their “Tetris Plus!” chant.
If I make a video about it I won't talk about how to do one but rather how the game detects it and the edge cases this leads to. If you want example setups, try looking on the harddrop wiki, they have loads of setups both for opener and midgame use.
0:37 Yes, the X pentomino has no other rotations, so it seems unusable in most circumstances. But, if you have a T-shaped well in your playfield, the X pentomino fits there with no empty spaces. So, it's not COMPLETELY useless. It's just MOSTLY useless. We can only wish the T tetromino turned into the X pentomino in Puyo Puyo Tetris, so that it would be bad if you had the Pentomino effect put on your Next queue.
Thing is the T tuns into a bigger T so that you can still do T-spins You don't get extra bonus points or garbage for doing it with pento T rather than tetro T but you get style point which in party is all I care about lol
Lilla Oshisaure I know that the T4 actually turns into a T5, I was just saying it would be a much greater detriment to have the T turn into an X, which only has one form that only fits one type of hole: a T-shaped hole. That way, it would be harder to use the transformation of the T tetramino. After all, isn't the whole point of the Pentomino item to hurt the other player's ability to place pieces?
I agree with the pentomino only mode. However, to get all 18 pentoes, you'd need to define the rotation system, and well, at this point i'm not sure using the trick they used (base it on a tetromino and keep its rotarions) would work that well, so you'd have to rewrite a whole rotation system, SRS-style. Which sounds like a huge pain.
It's their dropset. It only matters in some puyo modes and in fusion, but this is basically showing what sort of pieces you'll get. 2 dots vertically mean a regular pair, a long oval and a dot mean a group of 3 where the two puyos at the place of the oval are the same colour, two vertical ovals mean a group of 4 puyos with 2 unicolour pairs, and a big dot means a big unicolour puyo that counts as 4
Nah don't worry, not many people play fusion and I'm about the only person to care about party, so unless you play one of those or tiny puyo dropsets don't really matter
Interesting fact this isn't the first time pintominos first appeared in they first appeared in magical Tetris challenge on n64(USA released) and ps1(uk released only)
Yes you can do a Tetris Plus with this You can make a Tetris Plus in Fusion, by soft dropping the first I piece in a deep well stack of Puyos then harddropping other I piece on the top of the falling I piece
Because what you see as an obvious place for the J to go is actually not tested amongst the 5 possible rotations. This is things like this that makes some people call SRS "unpredictable" or "inconsistent".
unrelated to pentominos: what would be your opinion if they implemented a mode like puyopuyo 7 daihenshin (mini puyo and giant puyo, along with mini mino and giant mino) in PPT as some sort of extension to big bang that unlocks when you clear out offset?
Hmm, I mean the thing with big bang in tetris is that it's literally a finesse test. Changing the well size form 10 wide to anything else would probably change the execution a lot, and I'm sure it'd throw many people off. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have a tetris big mode, but maybe as its own thing. Not sure it'd do well if it was randomly thrown at big bang players.
I like how the real internal explanation is that the O-piece is rotated around a corner... and then immediately pushed back into place so it looks like it hasn't moved at all. "Nothing to see here, folks!"
Pretty much, though there's a programming reason behind it. When the centre of rotation is on a block rather than a vertex, you can set this block as the "0,0 point" or origin, then set all the coordinates of the blocks relative to this block. That way when you rotate, you can just move your blocks with a x, y = -y, x formula applied to every block and boom you rotated your piece 90 degrees around the origin. This is something you can't do as easily if you want your piece to rotate around the corner of a block, so I assume that's why it's like this since this allows to define only one orientation per piece and compute the rest on the fly as needed. The same thing happens with the I piece except it's given proper kicks instead of just a rectification to keep it stationary. PPT then used this to give an extra kick to the P pentomino, allowing the O tetromino (which in turn allows the P pentomino) to use its "true rotation" around its internal origin, but only if the piece cannot rotate in its rectified first rotation. This gives one kick possible for the P pentomino while still not showing for the O tetromino under normal circumstances, since for the O piece it makes it completely stationary. It's possible to see this kick from the O piece however if you rotate while the piece is trapped inside other blocks, which is achievable in Fusion: ruclips.net/video/CRfV5csii5Y/видео.htmlm51s
There is a way to clear 5 lines indeed, and it does award you with a Tetris Plus. I didn't show it because I was focusing on spins, and you can't make an I-spin Tetris Plus, since it require the piece to fall at least one cell after rotating. In the same way, this is not a T-spin double: fumen.zui.jp/?m115@ugB8IeB8BeE8AeH8BeH8BeI8AeD8JeAgHvhDVcf9mf?9rBAAA
In this game, any line clear that's more than 4 lines is counted as Tetris Plus. Some people prefer calling a 5-line clear "Pentris" because it gives the information of how many lines you cleared ("exactly 5" instead of "5 or more").
@@fredhuang6436 in Fusion, you can have a Tetris piece lock on top of puyos, and it will slowly fall down, crushing the puyos one by one. You can harddrop another piece on top of it while it's still falling, and it will only try to clear lines when there's no more puyos to crush and it's on either the bottom of the field or another Tetris piece. So at that point you can get something like an 8 line clear if you stacked two I pieces vertically in a well full of puyos

What would a tetris be called if you used the pentomino version?
In this game it's called a Tetris plus

You: kill it with fire
Me: no u
Hey, could you also test what would happen if you cleared 5 lines at a time with the I pentamino?
Check description, got you covered cause you were not the only one to wonder.
wait, isn't that way possible to clear 5 lines with the I Pentomino? Does it generate any bonus?
There is a way to clear 5 lines indeed, and it does award you with a Tetris Plus. I didn't show it because I was focusing on spins, and you can't make an I-spin Tetris Plus, since it require the piece to fall at least one cell after rotating. In the same way, this is not a T-spin double: fumen.zui.jp/?m115@ugB8IeB8BeE8AeH8BeH8BeI8AeD8JeAgHvhDVcf9mf?9rBAAA
0:36 x pentomino rant
Is it possible for a t-spin Tetris?
No cause the T piece is 3x3
Why didn't you try a 5 level Tetris (pentis?) with the pentomino I piece?
Because check description.
Wait am I missing something? Why didn't you go for the 5 clear with the i-pentamino?
See description
@@Oshisaure Whoops, my laziness caused me to forget about the description, my bad
So, are you saying we could make Tetris with S piece?
In pentomino, yes
i want the super rotation system in reality
What would you call it when you clear 5 lines with I piece?
In this game, any line clear that's more than 4 lines is counted as Tetris Plus. Some people prefer calling a 5-line clear "Pentris" because it gives the information of how many lines you cleared ("exactly 5" instead of "5 or more").
How would you clear over 5 lines though?
@@fredhuang6436 in Fusion, you can have a Tetris piece lock on top of puyos, and it will slowly fall down, crushing the puyos one by one. You can harddrop another piece on top of it while it's still falling, and it will only try to clear lines when there's no more puyos to crush and it's on either the bottom of the field or another Tetris piece. So at that point you can get something like an 8 line clear if you stacked two I pieces vertically in a well full of puyos
1:37 Amazing Transition
What about an I Spin Tetris Plus
Check description.
