One injury might not be Kyle's fault, but needing at least 5 quarterbacks to get to the Superbowl (Trey, Jimmy, Brock and Johnson all got hurt) is concerning. On their respective rookie seasons both Trey and Brock got hurt on their first start/meaningful playing time game. As a 49ers fan, I'd rather be consistent playoff contenders and maybe on the off chance if everything goes our way we win the SB. Its a much better position then being in the bottom of the barrel of the league.
That's my view. I want to win games during the regular season and make the playoffs. Then it's a tournament. It would be great to win one SB yeah but it will never be enough for fans. the 9ers were the most fun team to watch when i was growing up during the montana - rice era. it will be fun to see them make a SB run. my concern is the pass protections. shannahan is a great coach, but he can never keep any qb healthy ever. his pass protection scheme is often inadequate for those long crossing routes to develop. for ex, leaving a te 1:1 on hassan reddick ?!? thats bad coaching. remember the 9ers lost that game b/c they couldn't block, not because they couldn't throw - if purdy stays healthy by some miracle it doesnt change the scoreboard when he's getting hit on every play. will they finally fix the pass blocking scheme? i hope so. if they fix this one flaw, the 9ers can make a legit SB run
This is something I started thinking of last week. They contended for SB in 2019 and lost. They drafted a team from scratch and all these guys succeeded. A good problem to have, but if they don’t win this year or next I hope it doesn’t tumble.
Injuries did them in, in 2022. If they'd had a healthy defense and a quarterback they could have beaten Philly. They have to set themselves up to host the NFC championship to get to the Super Bowl. Got to win big in the regular season, starting with Pittsburgh. Gonna be a tough fight.
Honestly if at the end of the day we don't win one I'm still glad Shanahan got us out of the basement. At least we are contenders every year. I do not want to go back to the Chip Kelly days

Yes but eventually that fades injuries, contracts etc. for example the rams won a ring they could be average to bad for the next 5 seasons , but they accomplished their goal. If the niners don’t win , but end up in the same fate mission is failed. Eventually your team won’t be the same and others will rise while you retool.

I really don't understand why you think the 49ers have urgency to win now. I see it more like an Andy Reed or Sean Payton situation. Be good enough for long enough and you'll win the big one eventually. Yes they have aging players. But they aren't the QB.
Well if they had a good QB around that could be the situation, but neither Purdy Lance or Jimmy are the answer to a SB win anytime, even less with Shanahans horrible coaching to keep a QB alive, like how the living f you think making a practice squad TE block a probowl DE is gonna end? Theres no reason to keep Shanahan any longer now, they should be able to bring in a new coach who values the life of their QBs at least. That injury to Purdy could be career changing, he had a below average arm power, now with this he's gonna struggle way more to take the deep ball. Future ain't looking good for the 49ers
@@HurtsGood1Don't forget Shanahan dragged us out of the basement and made us contenders though. We've been good consistently for the last 4 years minus the injury year.
Sigh. . You forget that the reason the 49ers started slow last year was three-fold. One, Mitchell went down week 1. Offense was tailored that season to utilize what he did to help ease the burden on Lance's shoulders. Two. Then Lance went down week 2. The entire playback was scrapped with him gone. Three Jimmy Garoppolo. He spent no time pre-season with the team as they were trying to get him signed elsewhere. He never saw the playback until week 1. Kyle had to scrap the playback with RB1 and Qb1 done. So yeah, they struggled. But this was due to extreme circumstances, not "Oh those silly 49ers! They always start slow!" Realize EVERY year their prior lead back is injured. I fear for McCaffrey this season!! But they fight through and become lethal. We shall see.
Thats on the HC, how can you manage to lose so many players when it's only Week 1 or 2? The 49ers could be an all-time great fiasco if Brock Purdy ends up being no better than average--either because of lingering injury, or because he always was average and defenses have figured him out--or if Sam Darnold can't pull Geno Smith-type career revitalization. Trey Lance has already shown he's not who the 49ers hoped he was, and without a good qb, every game will just be a variation on that miserable NFC championship game last year.
