  • There are various treks you can do when visiting Ifugao in Luzon.
Whether you choose to stay in Banaue or Batad, you can still wander on many trails.
We stayed at Bogah Homestay in Banaue and went on this 2 day trek with our host, Kuya Joel.
We had such a great time on this adventure, our only regret was that we didn't take the 3 days trek instead, to have more time to spend with the locals.
We also had the chance to be shown how they prepare the MOMA (local coco leaves + lime + tobacco mix) that the locals chew.
Our trek started just outside Banaue, trekking through the jungle for about 4 hours until we finally made it to the viewpoint of Pula village. Another 40 minute down the stairs through the rice terraces and we made our way onto Lower Pula. Here we met some lovely kids who followed us for a while on our trek to Upper Pula (another 45 minutes - 1 hour)
From here is where the most scenic part of the day started, trekking through the jaw dropping rice terraces between Pula village and Cambulo.
Cambulo is slightly more developed and more accessible, it's easier to reach via Batad, however, locals of Pula need to trek 4 hours to get to either Banaue, or Batad.
There's currently a road being built through the Cordillera Mountains that will pass close by Pula, which means local will have more access to transportation.
We slept at a homestay in Cambulo where they can prepare food for you (veeeery delicious food), from where we continued our trek towards Batad Rice Terraces on the next day (part 2 of this video)
00:30 - Hiking from Banaue through the jungle towards Pula Village
    06:10 - Pula Village viewpoint 1
07:45 - Pula Rice Terraces Viewpoint and history
10:15 - Passing through Pula village
12:52 - Locals explain us what is MOMA and how to prepare?
17:15 - Trekking through Cambulo Rice Terraces

When you see a place that you thought would not exist, then that's the best way to really describe it.

The rice terraces was listed as one of the 8th wonders of the world before. I’m not sure if still is but as a Filipino, this is something I am proud of. Safe travels

The world MUST know the Philippines is so much more than a beach destination! Sure, the beaches and virgin islands are of an immense beauty, but there’s so much more to discover in this archipelago! ♥️

Thanks so much! This area of the Philippines is so undertaken (you can tell by the number of views on the video too) but it is one that we would recommend to all nature lovers! We are really happy if this video helps someone to plan their trip there, you will not regret going the effort of the long bus ride and trek🙌

Yes in fact you need proper shoes here. Our hiking boots were doing well in the jungle, but on the Rice Terraces not as much, it was a bit slippery. Kuya Joel’s basketball shoes were doing a much better job, their soles have some sort of grip pads, we recommend wearing those if you visit 🙏
