My opinion on all-inclusives is that they're great in the Caribbean and Mexico, but if you're going to spend the 16hrs+ flying to cross the pond you might as well try to see more than one place.

Look up "all inclusive" resorts in the Dominican Republic. (try DR Nights) Or anywhere where prostitution is legal.

Ok sure usually Wolters World's subscribers like me might not be the kind of tourist that usually go to All Inclusives, because we like to really know the places where we go, the people, culture, traditions, foods. But that requires a lot of planning, energy, walking, waking up early, looking for good deals, dealing with some unpleasant moments, etc,and sure that's part of the adventure and we like it, usually after that we need some vacations from our vacations. But there are times when the only thing you want is to relax, to rest, eat and drink without having to constantly looking for good places or good deals, without planning, without inconveniences and that's totally fine too! I personally like to do that in a beach that I already know well (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) therefore I don't get the urge to explore, and I just sit next to the pool get a beer and relax with an amazing view.

I did a lot of European countries following Wolters World recommendations, we walked a lot everywhere, always had local foods, went outside the tourist routes, but now we have a new little family member that doesn't allow us to do all that, so for the next 4 or 5 years...all inclusive!

Nice video. For me I love all-inclusive. I don't understand why some look so down on it. They make it sound like you're trapped at the hotel and can't leave lol. Sure some people just go to sit at the beach and pool. But you can still go out and explore and try the local food. I do both. If you like to drink and eat.. especially drink then it's absolutely worth going all-inclusive.

All of these are SO true! I don't prefer all inclusive but sometimes, if you have the time or money, it's nice to stay at one and relax. However, that rarely is the case for me. I love to see where the locals eat and hang out and I explore way too much!
    Thanks for sharing :)

I've only been to Cancun once, on senior trip years ago. But I can attest that the waiters and bartenders at my resort really seemed to appreciate the fact that I tried to use a little Spanish when speaking to them. Even though it was clunky, awkward, high-school textbook Spanish, they liked the fact that I at least made the effort :)

  • @PaddySnuffles
    @PaddySnuffles 6 лет назад +2

The "try to speak the language thing" is _SO_ important whether you're at a resort or otherwise. Even if you totally butcher the language and they take pity on you and switch to English the fact that you even bothered to try makes a _world_ of difference (if anything the fact you suck at the language but put yourself out there anyway gains you extra points, not less).
It's a matter of courtesy. It shows you
    a) recognize that not all countries speak your language and you respect that
    b) aren't so arrogant or imperialistic as to expect them to speak your language when you don't speak theirs
    c) consider the other person's comfort important and are putting their ease above your own (which is particularly important if you're asking someone for a favour like directions or local tips; if they're taking the time to help you the least you can do is give them the least amount of work possible)

When it comes to All Inclusives it is very important to know yourself. I'm not an All Inclusive person. I'm an airbnb person. I like my independence. I like doing things on my own. I like to feel that, however briefly, I actually live in the city I'm visiting. I go to the local supermarkets. At least once during my stay I cook dinner. I like to eat where the locals eat (most of the time).
But we are all different. And different is good.

Same with cruises you get the included food and can buy drinks packages so it's like an all inclusive

  • @lynnb2562

We are normally not all inclusive people, but we have one location that we do all inclusive at and love it and that would be Disneyworld. I know you've got to do some add-ons to get it to that true all inclusive point, but it really is one of the only places we like to go and never leave the resort and we don't care as much about getting local experiences.

My wife and I have been on 22 cruises, so we are accustomed to all-inclusive vacations with buffets rolling all day, and unlimited drink packages for an extra fee. I'm allergic to alcohol in beverages, so I get the unlimited soft drink package. Royal Caribbean has the best soft drink packages because there a numerous self-serve drink stations all around the pool and the lido deck buffet. Carnival, on the other hand makes you wait your turn at the bar.

    Great video as always!
Personally I don't like all-inclusive hotels too much. In my opinion you do get a lot of things, but those things are usually much lower quality (e.g. food) than if you would get it in a restaurant or another shop. So I prefer having less, but this I can enjoy.

My brother got married at a resort in Mexico called the Riviera Maya. It was paradise. Everything was free, including food and alcohol. My favorite was the fruit and smoothie stand next to the beach filled with fruit I'd never seen before -- I tried them all. And they had crazy fancy deserts. You only had to pay for extra things from vendors, like scuba trips, or the bus trip we took to Chicanitza. I think you paid by room, and they had tiered pricing, like they had differently priced rooms, and then cabanas that were more expensive. The cheapest rooms were fairly affordable for a middle-class person.

You mention prices of water and such. W Hen we go, and are going on an excursion, or just having out anywhere, we always take the bottled water from our room, or we get it at the bowling alley or other all-inclusive eateries. This comes back to tipping the maids and asking to refill with extra water, or Car on a only and add 5-6 bags of delicious peanuts. My wife is afraid to go to town, off hotel grounds. We got in good with a few people, managers, waiters and such. Several were very happy to bring us real food from outside, even though it is a risk for them as they are not supposed to. One of the gals was incredible and actually made us a homemade traditional dinner and brought in the next day. Very hush hush. Best meal of our stay, she was such a doll.

2 items on your list are inter-related. Another reason drinks may be watered down is to prevent people getting drunk too soon. Have 3-4 drinks before lunch and some may get too sick or drunk to enjoy the rest of the day. With watered down drinks, you can have cocktails all day long and are less likely to get drunk before night time. Still, it is good advice to mix in water and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day too.

Great video for people who do not know what All Inclusives are all about. Good information. I have met people who never leave the resort. I get out on tours and if local buses are available, I check out places. In some places, you can see a show at the city's theatre but that depends on where you are and what is playing. People are always willing to help you if you need a question answered. It is much more fun that way. Besides having not to worry about my meals, I think it is the safety factor that I like. I can feel safe because I travel alone. It is always good to go to one or two local places to eat.

The biggest shock is the third day bloat and blaaas. After two days of unlimited food and drink you will feel tired and lazy and just want to lay around. I suggest taking a walk everyday, a light breakfast, no day drinking, and limit the fatty chips and meat.

It seems like nearly everybody from Atlantic Canada goes to all-inclusives in Cuba fairly regularly. If you avoid the school holidays it can be surprisingly cheap. It isn't unusual to get a week at an all-inclusive hotel + return flight from Canada for under $1k Cdn pp, which is currently well under US$800. It doesn't sound like my scene, but at that price it is tempting in the dead of winter.
When Obama started opening up restrictions on Cuba a lot of Canadians were afraid that the influx of American tourists would ruin their cheap vacations.

Maybe some receptionists and sales people might ask you not to tip the staff at the resort. The reality is that many people don't earn a lot of money. Many waiters depend on tips literally. The reason why many receptionists and sales people ask you not to tip the staff is because they want to sell more.

All inclusives are are bad deal for most tourists in Mexico. It doubles the price of most vacations. In Acapulco, you can stay downtown, eat at a different restaurant every night and pay a lot less. Otherwise, your advice about Mexico is right on.

One lil problem with the all inclusive is that if you decide to go out one night for dinner to a local restaurant or go out one day for lunch and a few beers , you’re wasting money a bit as you’ve already paid for the food and drink back at the hotel, as soon as you leave the resort, you’re missing out on the things you’ve already paid for back in the hotel /resort which defeats the whole purpose of going all inclusive.
Best thing in my opinion is to go “half board” in your hotel , which is breakfast and dinner. No lunch , free drinks etc.

Your advices here are excellent. I went to an all inclusive hotel once in Malta, I enjoyed the cocktails all day, and the fact that me and my friends knew our budget in advance. :) But indeed there was no local food, and first week the hotel was full of blonde young scandinavians while second week was full of latin portuguese families. And everything made for them. I guess tour operators had big deals with them. I enjoyed the "free" food and cocktails, but not sure the price was so good. And as you said, cocktails were not "real" cocktails, they add tons of ice in it. And hotel was far from cultural sites.

I only travel independently now, so I can choose exactly where to go, who I associate with (which is often no one), etc.

Another thing to consider is if you have friends or family that have time shares. To get those discounted rates that they offer to the friends and family of the timeshare holders, you have to sit thru a 2 hour presentation. Sounds ok but when that 2 hours is up and you want to leave they don’t always like that and get kind of rude to you. The salesman in them comes out and it’s intimidating. It’s a lot of negotiating trying to get you to buy their timeshares and it goes on and on. I didn’t like that at all. I did however like the discounted rate we got so I guess it’s kind of a double edged sword? Loved the all inclusive part 100%!!

+Kenny Coates I do occasional ones but they get very few views and a much higher down vote percentage. So we try to stick with these traditional videos more and then just a vlog video every so often.

    We forgot the mosquito repellent.
$15 USD at the hotel shop.
    😱😱😱
Besides that, everything was wonderful at Playacar resort in Playa del Carmen.
The drinks were strong and the food was delicious, the service was first class.
I think that all inclusive, like everything else, you get what you pay for. 👍

Am taking your advice. Am beginning to look into information about resorts. One thing I am noticing right away is that resorts for themed locations, or resorts with families in mind seem to be (literally) all over the map. Another trend I see is that for older people and or for, singles resorts for those populations seem to be clustered in only a few areas of the world. Is there any reason for that? For example, if I want to go to Europe as an older, single traveler I don't see a lot of options in that instance. However, if I didn't mind a younger crowd and I want to travel single then there seems to be plenty of options in the Caribbean -- not my favorite part of the world.
    Got any thoughts on this?

I found that both interesting and informative. I have traveled through 58 countries, but never stayed at an all inclusive resort. For my energy level and age. I don't feel to back pack any longer. This seems to be the right idea for me. I have been to Mexico like 20 times. There is little I have not seen there.

I agree. There are people that love all-inclusive, just like there are people that use travel agents. It's about convenience. However, there are remote places, like the Maldives, I would highly recommend all-inclusive of some sort (not all resorts offer this in the Maldives-- if you choose one of them, just let your wallet cry silently lol). You are stuck on an island and basic breakfast for $50pp! It's so true, resorts charge you a super high mark-up on things you can buy cheaply. I bought ten tampon pack for $27! For the price, I saved some as souvenirs lol.

Cool video, and I agree that AI are not for everyone. They're certainly not for me. I get bored super quick and the thought of laying around doing nothing for a week isn't for me. I could simply "do nothing" at home and save the $$$.
I could 2 days max and watch the ocean but that's my limit. I do find the food at an AI is pretty bad though, although I'm mainly just using Cuba as an example.

I'm not staying at A.I at all, I'm headed out on the 1st, going to Airbnb's and maybe at a hostel to mingle some with the other tourists, onwards to Mérida from Cancún and then to Mexico city!

So if I have a family of four, since the price is per person, would that mean if I book two rooms it would be the same price as if I were to cram all four of us in one room? Obviously at least one adult staying in each room. I have teenage boys, so to have two rooms would be much more comfortable space.

man! you should go one day to huatulco! there are two incredible all inclusives for the hole family. Dreams and Barcelo
is not as expensive as Cancun and is much more Mexican.
if you really love all inclusives, the Rivera maya, and you have enough money, you should go to occidental grand xcaret. kids, wife and you will love it!

Have you been to Kuala Lumpur or Langkawi? It would be great to see you do videos on these places. Kuala Lumpur is a modern cosmopolitan Southeast Asian city. It is also the largest city and the capital of Malaysia. Langkawi is a beautiful island off the coast of northeastern Peninsular Malaysia.

Not everyone is helpful 😢my husband and I went to a all inclusive in Mexico and were told there was transportation to the resort but no one was at the airport were told they had left,we had to find someone else, cost us $75 for a 10 minute drive,we were not reimbursed,we were on the 3rd floor but the elevator was not working, after we walked upstairs the water was not working at all for the next couple 12 hours, we were supposed to get 3 free excursions, when we went to get on the bus they told us it would be $50 each. Cash! This pre paid one week cost us $6000 dollars!!, Never again to Mexico!!

At the all inclusive I stayed at in Rivera Maya I usually left a few dollars at dinner. Was sad to hear from my favorite bartender on my last day the supervisors take all of the employees tips. They go through security leaving work and all tips/gifts must be surrendered to management. :(

I can´t say not realy negativ about All-inclusive, espacially, if you are travelling with kids, because they can just drink how much as they want and you get the bad surprise at the end of the trip, when you have to pay the bill. ;)
We are travelling in April to Fuertaventura for 6 nights All-inclusive in a 4+ Star Resort, for 650,-€ (aprox: 690,- USD) for the hole time include flights, for each adult.
