please help me here
at 4:00pm a flask of sterile broth is inoculated with 10000 bacterial cells
at 9:00 pm the log phase culture had a population of approximately 41million cells .CAlCULATE THE NUMBER OF GENERATIONS AND THE GENERATION TIME
Number of generations - 12
Generation time - 29 min.
@@MicrobiologyMantra thank you ..i understand the number of generations bti don't get generation time
@@MicrobiologyMantra instead i got 25min ...
You are correct. Generation time is 25 min. If you multiply 12 generations with 25 min you will get 300 min which is the given time period.
For me the calculated generation time was around 29 min and number of generations was between 12 and 13 using the formula. I have rounded off the value to 12.
with the generation time , i had 30 minutes

I have tomorrow an microbiology exam and i was about to give on it but i understood it quite well 😊thank so much! Your video has help me truly!
Glad you understand. Thank you 😊
Same sis same
Can this be used when looking into optical density as I have an assignment where we had to grow our own bacterial culture and look at the optical density over 90 minutes at 550nm? We need to calculate lag phase and generational time. I've run through some calculations and getting a rough estimated time of e-coli generational time at 26.38 minutes? (Yes I know you can't work without data but still, does this sound about right?)
How can we calculate generation time or number of bacterial colonies at the end of a given time using calculus(integration)?
Great video! 👍 What is the generation time of h. pylori?
You changed the way I see microbiology 👍
Thank you 😊
What is the generation tym of the culture which has the growth rate constant is 0.01/min??
If you have any article about this topic, can you share the doi of them pls?
This video is very very helpful. Just what I needed.
👍
Excellent video thank you so much 🙏
👍🙏
It's very helpful ,thanks a lot🥺❤️❤️
Thank you for watching
Beautiful Presentation 👌👌👌👍👍👍
Thank you
Please provide the sources of the formula and derivation. I want to cite them in my research paper.
my micro midterm exam is after 2 days and this helped me a lot thankssss
Glad it helped! Good luck!
this was very very helpful
👍
May god bless your souls
Put the video Rt-pcr for covid-19????
This video is very much useful for me
👍😊
Mashallah to the way u explained
Thank you 😊
Thanks pal
The time required for bacteria to duplicate was recorded before and after mutation therapy. Observations were carried out on 15 different strains of bacteria. Apply t-test and find out whether the mutation therapy have effect on generation time.
Before treatment generation time 19, 22, 17, 19, 15, 25, 24, 22, 28, 23, 19, 25, 24, 23, 18
After treatment generation time 18, 14,23, 25, 17, 16, 15, 21, 15, 12, 22, 18, 19, 24, 20
5:49 How is the growth rate (K values) expressed in the formula?
a. As a decimal
b. As a percentage
c. In log scale
d. In scientific notation
the video is so helpful

I don't know how grateful can I be to you. What do you do when you just have OD values from measurement in microtiter plates? The OD of the bacterias I am using are normally 0,286 after 10x diluted. I diluted 20x more (2 x10) Then I inoculated the plate with 100 ul of the stock in 100 ul media. The stock continues to be diluted until 10^-7. And I get a CFU/ml normally 10^9. But I don't really have an initial number of bacteria. Just the first OD which was 10x diluted.
Produce a standard curve CFU versus OD. That may help to estimate the initial population.
@MicrobiologyMantra thank you! I don't know if I understand well what to do. My initial values would be the number I have inoculated? For example, if my CFU/ml is 1x10^9. Could I just divide this number by 10:10:10:2? What would be the serial dilution 3x10 and 2 by the inoculum? Then I would have more or less 1×10^5?
cryastal clear , Thank you sir🤩🤩
👍
this was amazing omgggggg
Thank you ☺️
Thank you !^_^
when calculating generation time , we use time in minutes always?
I think the time is always more than a minute, so, it is better to use in minutes.
The best❤
Thank you 🙏
If one starts with 10000 cells in a culture that has a generation time of 2 hrs ,how many cells will be in the culture after 24 hrs
Blessed❤
Thank you 🙏
sir ye akhir may jo aap ney 124 minute waley population ko tik mark kya samaj nahi aya q k hmara tho 120 minutes wala tha
plz sir thorra sa explian karey
124 min was approximate time. Apne ko 120 min pe 10 lakh aana tha. Is liye 124 min pe 12 lakh aaya.
POG
It's very useful video 👍
Thank you
5:37 How was d "1" above 0.301 got please🙏
This is just another form of previous equation. Just to separate the log equation. There is no change in the equation.
@@MicrobiologyMantra Thank u❤️🙏
From the following data calculate the mean generation time. At the beginning of exponential growth when the t=0 Initial cell concentration=2500per ml .At time t=8hrs cell concentration=10000per ml
I really dont get it. Where did the n formula come from
n is the number of generations in the formula to calculate the Generation time of bacteria
Sir
E.coli generation time 20 minutes.
Thank you for this work
But I'm confuse on how the numbers of bacteria are pointing at the time in the graph
@7:45 it should be 10^7 for Nt. Check your math . G should then equal 12 minutes
I agree. Taken values that are close to the value on scale. Thank you for the finding.
how to find Nt
Using standard plate count method after performing serial dilutions, you can get the population of cells.
There is another method of taking optical density by using spectrophotometer. But this method has some limitations.
BACTERIA IS AMZING MICROORGAMISM
suppose a bacterial population increased from 2×10^3cfu/ml to 2×10^9cfu/ml in 8hours. calculate the mean growth and the generating time
Generation time is 24 min.
I have a correction:
The bacteria did not double from 10,000 to 1,000,000. Double of 10,000 is 10,000,000.
So it takes 18 minutes for 10,000 cells to become 1,000,000 cells.
People might get misinformed. :)
You are mistaken.
I did not say that. I have taken population at two different times from the growth curve, and calculated the generation time from that.
10^4 and 10^6 are just two different populations at t1 and t2.
By the way double of 10,000 is 20,000.
Hope you got me now.
I thought generation time is measured in hours
thanks😂
👍
I can’t get this
It’s a bit difficult topic as little math is involved.
Can someone. Explain these numbers to me? Okay, let us look at this number "1,60,000" Is this supposed to be 1,600,000. This number does not make any sense. These 6,40,00 is 6, 400,000 and 12, 80, 000 is 12, 800,000.
Multiply each product with 2, starting from 10,000, then you will get these numbers.
