Thank you! Im changing the oil on my stepdaughters car tomorrow and I wanted to knock it out quickly with some guidance from a person like you! Great video.
Dang that looks so easy. I’m super girly girly and I just wanted to learn how to change my oil to see if it was easy or hard. I and definitely am going to do this now. I don’t have a jack tho but I am skinny n small to fit under lol. I always think they try to scam girls at places. I learned how to change my own lights, change a tire and I even know how to change the break sensor that’s under the pedal from Yourube!!!(the sensor was a lil hard because it seemed like I needed 3 hands to do but I did it) 😊. But thank you for showing that since I have a Kia Optima 2016
Very solid informative video, another thing that is recommended is to change out the oil drain plug gasket when you change your oil. It wears over time and can cause leaks. Reusing it once or twice won't hurt though
Great video! Step by step I like that. I'm changing mine for the first time. Used Kia 2015. The place you would do this on mine looks a little different than yours but right where you said it would be. This helped me out. Easy to reach without jack stands.
My buddy wants me to do his. Thought I’d look it up to see what oil filter wrench I’ll need. Why do they always put them in the most uncomfortable places.
A lotta times the drain bolt is on the back of the oil pan, so when you raise it with either the jack and stands or a set of ramps, the old oil to be drained will gravitate toward the rear of the oil pan.
Good video helped out a lot it’s the first time doing it on my wife’s car due to the Coronavirus we usually take them to the shop but they are closed like I said helped out A lot thanks 🙏🏼
Bro its all good, i went from a cheeseburger in HS to a big mac after 20 years.. you gotta get in where you fit in (physicaly). I hate those plastic skid plates wit the holes. Most time the oil drips on that shit and causes a mess
Save money and you know the work is done and done right. The last time I had a company do mine they didn’t do anything and left my filter half way on so I was leaking oil.
That’s how it is on my car which is a way different model. I know left loose right right but it depends where the bolt is either on the front or back side of the pan.
Lizzy Smith I’m honestly not sure.. I just know I turn it to the left.. I’m doing another oil change on it this week I’ll pay attention and let you know
Okay thank you. I’m gonna try again on Monday. I gotta get a Jack that fits the Kia because the jack we have is built specifically for my ford so I am getting a proper one with jack stands tomorrow. On my ford I have to loosen toward the passenger side because the drain plug is on the back of the pan, that’s why I ask. Thanks again. This helped a bit but the bolt is stubborn so I have to crawl back under on my next day off when I have a jack that fits the Kia.
My man, is your engine burning oil? I did my own oil change for the first time and not even the 3000 recommended, just two thousand miles in, I was down 2 quarts! I put in 5 quarts and only 3 quarts came out 2000 miles later. I checked after the new oil change and it was down a quart after 1000 miles. Holy hell...
@@TiptonGarage just keep your receipts for the oil and filter, along with the mileage you change it…in case the dealership/manufacturer question the type used.
The reason for the suggested torque on your Honda Accord is because the oil pan's aluminum. More than about 33 ft lbs and you'll strip it. Steel drain pans can handle more torque, not sure what it is on these my 2012 Kia Optima SX with the 2.0l turbo motor has a steel drain pan for those I don't worry about torque, just tight but not over tight, a little more than snug.
Yo I gotta disagree on the oil filter, change that shit everytime you do the oil, walmart has their supertech oil and filter for hella cheap.. the filter is like less than $5 so wtf. Since i went fill synthetic on my truck i go 5k miles but on the real i know i could bang out 7k and probly bee iight but i dont fuck around and push it like that.. Edit: yo after doin a 5 min reasearch it seems like these new filters can go every other one. Example my filter says 10k miles and i usually do my change around 5500 so idk. I still feel for the extra $5 its easy enough to do it every time
My owner's manual says for Kia to honor the warranty you must use Kia oil filters. Once warranty period has expired, use whatever you want. If your car is still under warranty I wouldn't take any chances to save a few bucks. Just saying...
Where did you jack up the car from? I’ve been looking around at forums and looks like everything underneath this car is like paper mache. I have a low profile jack and not trying to bend the pinch weld or anything else... thanks in advance!
I have been using the heavy duty Rhino ramps for regular easy drive-on, drive-off oil changes for years, to make oil changes in my driveway really simple. I don't like to waste time with cumbersome jacks, except for other necessary tire , brake and suspension work. Just line them up carefully and set your parking brake carefully, after you slowly drive onto the handy ramps.
You will need to first remove any underbody plastic protective covers. My old Optima had at least 6 of these 10mm bolts holding it in place, which are removed and re-installed quickly with a handy short 10 mm socket rachet wrench. My new Stinger, however , now has a flimsy woven and much thinner panel which is similar, but not nearly as sturdy or solid as the older ones, and the lowered ground clearance and workable elbow room and hand space has also been much reduced. I always quickly dip these bolts in some of the old engine oil to rust-proof them before re-installation.
Oby Garcia, that’s good to know! I’ve changed oil on Hyundais and Kia’s, and the majority of them have used a 17 mm drain plug, but I’ll be on the lookout for any 16 mm.
You just pinch the tabs closed, it'll come off. It is merely cosmetic and for OP most likely whoever did his oil change before lost it or forgot to put it back on.
@@ABCD-eg5ky I always change my oil filter at the same time but the amount is dependent on that as well, if you don't change the filter you won't be using as much oil. It's not a huge amount but it's still a difference.
Helped out a lot. Just purchased a 2015 Kia Optima & I want save money maintenance.
Thanks, changing my girls oil to gain brownie points!
Quantum Aegis yes sir! Thanks for watching

Thanks. Needed this. Changing your own oil is way cheaper.

Appreciate the heads up on where everything is located on this car👍
Glad to help
My buddy wants me to do his. Thought I’d look it up to see what oil filter wrench I’ll need. Why do they always put them in the most uncomfortable places.
Just a word of advice. Chalk or block those back wheels. Never trust that the hand break will work. You dont want to roll
I agree
Thank you for the video! Doing my first oil change by myself and I feel a lot more comfortable doing it.
Erich Longo no problem! It’s super easy feel free to let me know if you have any questions
This absolutely helps me out, hahah, thanks a lot bro, appreciate it!!
Where did you jack up the car from. Everywhere is soft on my car besides the lower control arm. Where did you place the jack?
Good video
Quick and straight to the point! Great video! Thanks!
Three years later, it helped me out sir! thanks.
I know this is commenting on an old video, but does it matter where you place the jack stands?
Yes. You have to find metal under the car never put them on plastic
I thought I’d have to take off that plastic crap. Thanks for the video. I wouldn’t have known there are holes for drain and filter.
you are welcome! glad to help
So how is all the oil drained out when the car isn't level??
A lotta times the drain bolt is on the back of the oil pan, so when you raise it with either the jack and stands or a set of ramps, the old oil to be drained will gravitate toward the rear of the oil pan.

I have this same car in Chicago with 175,000 miles, which oil reference do you recommend?
I did my oil change added 1 jug (5 quarts) but I check dip stick and it doesn’t show completely full
If you have the 2.0l turbo (theta 2 motor) the full capacity with oil filter is somewhere around 5.3ish quarts
THANKYOU SIR FOR SHARING IT SURR HELPED ME

Not trying be funny, but what are the benefits of doing your own? I have done a lot of work on my 2015.Should I stop going places or do it by my self.
Save money and you know the work is done and done right. The last time I had a company do mine they didn’t do anything and left my filter half way on so I was leaking oil.
Which way did you loosen the drain plug bolt? Toward the driver side or passenger?
Lizzy Smith left lose... right tight
From what I can see and tell it looks like you loosen toward the passenger side and tighten toward the driver side.?
That’s how it is on my car which is a way different model. I know left loose right right but it depends where the bolt is either on the front or back side of the pan.

Yes there is actually a big problem with that engine doing that! Mine actually blew last month and Kia replaced it for free
Kias drink 5W20 like Kool-Aid...mine goes through a lot of oil.
quick and easy and straight to the point! great video! very helpful
How many bottles Your Car took?? Just one? Mine is a 2016 Kia optima 2.4
good job, ...thoroughly explained.
With the car being on an incline with all the oil drain out properly?
I have never had an issue with it
Did you say the filter wrench cost 10 books?
ghosturd77 I believe so it’s been awhile. It wasn’t expensive whatever it was
Walmart sells a 3 prong looking one thats universal for $5.. Attaches to a socket wrench and tightens as you loosen it. Its the hypertough brand..
Curious. If you get a new engine with engine recall, can you do your own oil changes?
Robert Smith I wouldn’t see why you wouldn’t able an oil change is an oil change
@@TiptonGarage just keep your receipts for the oil and filter, along with the mileage you change it…in case the dealership/manufacturer question the type used.
Wix is the best choice
Will there be run off from on top of the plastic plate afterward?
Yes, if you spill oil down the side of the engine block like my KIA dealer did, you will have oil dripping in your driveway.
You're better off to change the filter and not the oil.......don't skimp out by re-using a filter
Good Job Man!!!

How many quarts of oil did you use? Or recommended
5
What is the oil drain plug torque spec?
Average Joey if I were to guess, it would be somewhere between 26-31 ft-lbs. I have a Honda Accord with the same size drain bolt.

Yes
