  • Preparedmind101 takes a first use look at the Emberlit Stove...and is blown away. I mean...I always heard it was good, but after using it i would have to say I think it is OUTSTANDING and a MUST OWN piece of kit. Now planning on getting the Ti version. But I digress...
The Emberlit Stove is a simple, well designed, lightweight packable wood burning stove that is just EASY to use. Not only a camp cooking option, it is something that could just save your life by making a hot fire easier to build and maintain with more efficient use of less fuel. Starting at $39, it's a no-brainer.

Diagonal Cross bars go on the corner edges. Good review. Added to list of stuff to get. Titanium version weighs 6oz. Stainless steel is 11.3 oz.

Hey Chris if you use a few drops of dish soap and rub it over the out side of your pot or cup before cooking with it over open flame the soot will wipe right off. That will save the time and sand paper.

Also a little bit of rubbing alcohol will take the soot off very fast if you forget to put soap on it first.

Another great video, Chris! Just for clarification, the titanium version isn't just a few bucks more... it's almost double the cost of the stainless version. But it's about half the weight. Also, no matter how sootie the box gets, when the embers burn down to red hot coals, the soot burns off quickly. It's almost self cleaning. Unfortunately, the pans and kettles have to be cleaned the old fashioned way. I can't believe I haven't subscribed until today. Oh well... we'll take care of that right now. Cheers. --Scott

Hey Chris, loved the comparison of stoves you did! I'm going to give my opinion on the "Big 3". Firebox 5", Emberlit and the Bushbox XL because they all are similar in size and use wood as the primary fuel source.
The Bushbox XL is obviously the Cadillac of the stoves but also comes with a hefty price tag. I like that it's a tick larger than the other two, really quick and easy set up and I like the grill-top that it comes with. If you have the cash, I think this is the one to get even though it's a bit larger and heavier than the other two.
The Firebox and the Emberlit pretty much go head to head in size and ease of use. I'm definitely leaning towards the Emberlit for one major reason. While the firebox is attached and folds out (which is nice), I actually like that the Emberlit comes completely apart. People seem to grip that the Emberlit is hard to put together but please. It might take a minute or two longer then the firebox but once you do it a time or two I'm sure you could cut this time in half. Putting these together isn't rocket science.
The main reason I would choose the Emberlit over the firebox is because it DOES comes completely apart and I think this would make a world of difference when it came to cleaning it because you simply have multiple flat pieces instead of reaching into a box and reaching the cracks and corners.
I'd like to see a video on how you clean your stoves, canteens and cookware (if you haven't).
Great videos on all 3, but for my money I'm going with the Emberlit! You could almost get the Titanium and the stainless for the same price as the Bushbox XL! Keep up the good work!

+derrik tribble I, mostly, agree. Simplicity and efficiency of the Emberlit won it for me. Ten minutes out of the box and, with my Leatherman and a wire coat hanger, this stove mastered my alcohol burner. Another five minutes and a small scrap of metal later and it was boiling a cup of water with a fuel tablet. My latest mod was to take my tin snips to a piece of stainless steel steamer tray and make a bottom plate that charcoal briquettes kick ass on. As for personal tastes, while you may dig the Cadillac, I'm more of a VW Bug guy. My other multi-fuel stove is the Bushcraft Essentials EDC that fits in an Altoids tin with 6 fuel tabs, a small vial of Vaseline soaked cotton, and a Ferro-rod. HAPPY TRAILS!

More than 300 fires with local woods in all weather, all year long, so far in my SS EmberLit and still going strong. Boil water, cook stew, fry steak, fry bacon, bake bannock, bake pizza, etc out on the trail. Not bad for $40. As with anything, practice makes perfect.

FYI: In many public use areas where they have a ban on open fires, one of these may qualify as a contained fire and therefore be usable. You should always check with the local Ranger or Land Management Office to be sure. I guess you called it Chris, 54 D-Bags pressed the Thumbs Down Button. However, the Decision to buy a Firebox Nano Titanium has now been solidified in my mind.
Although this stove will do the job for you, I see ZERO advantages over the competition, and it falls short in many ways

RCVD my Emberlit Ti UL stove this weekend and got it put together the first day correctly ! A wood stove uses one half the fuel of a campfire; thank you for helping save the forest. Also the Ti stove version is half the weight of the steel one. Can use the Emberlit stove as a windscreen for the Snow Peak gas stove. Or burn the solid fuel tablets in the stove. A very good multi-use stove and a big WIN ! Should work great with my Snow Peak Ti pot/cup after I figure how to turn the stove on. Thank you for a great video ! tjl

The Lixada/Overmont/Tomshoo clones actually work even better due to improved airflow provided by ventilation holes in the bottom plate. I don't know if Emberlit ever made use of that simple improvement to their design, but they should.

Now I'm looking for something versatile. So I tried the wood functionality and that worked great!! Next as this was a purchase from Cabalas it is the older model and I wanted to use my Esbit Alcohol burner so I made a stand for the burner from a Myntz container and four small bolts and 8 nuts. and that works great also. Having the older model still makes it a multi fuel stove. Good product!!!!

Once set up correctly it's extremely stable and able to actually support a full sized Dutch oven to cook a family sized meal on it (I've done this at home) Just to test it out. I've been recommending this to a lot of people. Mikhail is fantastic to deal with. He puts a lot of thought into everything he does.

I recently bought one and it works fine. I like the way you started yours up, I used fat wood and a home made cotton pad dipped in wax (just a cut off and roughed up portion) to get the fire going. The newer model will let you use the alcohol stove or fuel tablets with the provided slots and a provided metal plate. Nice demo!

What's the difference between that stove and a big coffee can with holes drilled in it?

***** Yep...the coffee can has zero second kind of cool appeal. But, it does work quite well.

A coffee can is also made of cheaper metal, which will degrade and rust after a few uses. One would also have to create cross bars or put a grill on top. That being said, if it's worth the savings to poke holes in a can each time you need a new one then go ahead. Buying this saves you the trouble (labor and time) of creating new tin can stoves.

Doobie Canoobie ya can't fold down a coffee can to a flat piece, this you can. Fits perfect in backpack and BOB

Great video. Have a similar stove. Been using for years. All my military cups/ pans have lots of permanent soot. Goes with the territory. Like your fire starter.

Cool stove. Thanks for sharing! 39 bucks seems like about twice a much as it should cost though.

Which is better this brand or Bushcraft-Essentials Bushbox stove???

Probably comes down to personal preference on the design. I know this works flawlessly. I haven't tested the medium and large BE stoves yet. Then there is also the Firebox brand.
