Thank you! This information was exactly what I was looking for. My poor jade has been healthy for years then just started dropping tons of leaves and stems. Hopefully I can safe her with your information!
Thank you for your video on leaves dropping from a jade plant! My leaves dropped healthy leaves within a week after a three week dry out watering, profusely within five days after watering they were healthy and not bendable or wrinkled! I am baffled! They are in a large terra-cotta pot maybe 12 inches circumference wide and over 9 inches deep! I check with the rod for dryness before I water! I’ve had the pot for two years and it’s done very well. It’s like this occurred overnight! I haven’t given any fertilizer it’s in a southern window! During that week there was rain in a window 3 feet away but not getting the jade wet but there might’ve been more moisture in the room. I don’t know what else to offer I don’t know what happened and I really don’t wanna lose my Jade! X
Hello. Was it also really hot where the plant is? I'm wondering if it just lost a bunch of leaves because it was dry for too long especially if it's very hot (a lot of places are experiencing heat waves right now)
Really learned alot about Jade plants in this video. I wish i knew sooner so i would not have killed one from over watering. I was wondering why leaves kept dropping and soft.
Thanks for the helpful info in your video. I have had my jade plant for many years and it survived under my care. It is tall and skinny and top heavy now, so I have to use sticks to support the branches. The plant is pretty healthy and green, but I have to be extremely careful in handling it. The leaves come off very easily just by touching them. I can understand why they fall off if unhealthy, but what is causing the healthy leaves drop so easily from gentle contact?
I'm both a liker and subscriber from Lake Charles, LA. If you find us on your U.S. map, we're almost to the Gulf of Mexico, so we enjoy a truly subtropical climate. I've had to move my jade indoors a couple of times during our winter to an adjacent room to the patio where it stays 90% of the year. Well, I did it again a few days ago. What? Overwatered the damn thing! It showed me by some of the outer leaf edges turning black. You could touch them and they'd drop. This has happened once before, but it bouced back, so I'm not worried. I guess I've just got to remember that when it comes to watering a jade, EASY DOES IT! Your videos have been a great help. Happy growing! 🪴
Jades are high light plants. I think you will see a big change in the growth if you place it in higher light. Just slowly introduce it to high light so you don't get leave burn. Keep me posted with how your plant does.
I have a jade plant similar to the one you have. It is dropping leaves. It is in the nursery pot it came with. I guess I will have to change it to a terracotta pot. Its leaves are pretty unbendable. I also think it gets enough light. It is probably due to the soil. I will have to repot it to an airier soil. Thank you so much for this video. I have learned a lot.
Well leaves you can lose naturally, but you should have branches falling off. I would definitely pull it out of the pot and see what you are dealing with
Thank you, I just move it, to brighter spot and I’m located in Canada (Québec) and the temperature in Between 18 to 28 degree in my appartement. I checks the water with a sensor and the soil is okay now. I’ll try to adjust the water frequency . 👌🏼
Thank you so much for your helpful info, exactly what I need to know for my jade plants, they are also called money plants, so we need to keep our money :)
@@EverythingPlants hey Jeff, how about a holiday plant shop? You know the usual suspects: cyclamen, norfolk island pine, christmas cactus, poinsettia, amaryllis. What's safe for pets, what's not. You don't even have to buy anything!
Hi, My Jade Plant has been dropping a *lot* of leaves and even detatched an entire branch. I've had a look at the plant where the leaves and branch fell off, And I don't see any rot or any bugs on it, so I'm confused to what's happening. If you want more information, The breaking parts are directly where the nodes are and are perfectly straight across. The leaves that are dropping off seem perfectly healthy- Though, I do have it in my West Window cil, and I am finding that the leaves are having issues staying hydrated during the day. Could it potentially be it having issues with adapting to the high light situation? Or is it something else?
Hey Sandy. It is really tough to give advice without seeing the plant, but you said the leaves are having a tough time staying hydrated...perhaps it is root bound. That would be my guess from your description. Feel free to send a picture to everything_plants_ca on Instagram
Very informative thanks. My jade looks great, firm leaves, new growth but in past week my some of the branch arms have started to come away from the main trunk, watering every two weeks currently. Firstly can you replant dropped limbs and secondly any idea as to why my plant has started to drop limbs? Leaves are easily coming off too by just touching but it looks amazing, such a shame. Thanks
@@EverythingPlants thanks for getting back, unfortunately the plant died, all the branches just dropped off and on closer inspection the roots were fine but the base of the stem was rotten black inside and mushy. I watered every month so I’m not sure why it just give up the ghost, not a problem before. Such a shame as it looked very healthy, strong leaves and good colour 🤷♂️
Hi! Thanks for this. I still don't quite understand what's going on with my Jade. She did great on the front porch in the summer when it was really hot and watering weekly. I've brought her inside and she doesn't have direct sunlight - although the room is bright. The leaves have started dropping this week, but they seem fine. The leaves that fall look healthy. It is in a plastic pot, but lots of drainage. Do you think it might be the lack of sunlight? She looks really healthy otherwise.
what do you like to do to treat mealy bugs? also, do you ever use the Bonsai Jack Succulent and Cactus Soil? that is what I have my Jade plants in. they drain thru extremely fast, wondering if I need to add some actual soil in with this mix?
I've been fortunate enough to not have had mealy bugs on my Jade plants. But I do know that you use q-tips and rubbing alcohol to get rid of them. Now for the soil... I've never used this specific brand because I don't think it's available in Canada. Lately I've been using VeryPlants succulent mixture and it's very rocky gritty
Over the summer I think I had an insect biting mine. It would leave one black spot and then the leaf would yellow. It’s fine now that it’s winter. My jade is over 15 years old and in similar height /shape as yours, I’d like it to get taller.. but it seems to just make a round bush lol The trunk hasn’t seemed to thicken past 3” in diameter. I’ll take your advice and use a clay pot. And I’ll add more sand.
I recently had to repot and move my crassula arborescens because it wasn't retaining any water anymore and it didn't fit on the windowsill! The location I've moved it to is under a roof window so it's mostly getting light from above now. It's losing lots of lower leaves now and I'm starting to panic. Could the change in light cause this?
Hi Jeff, thanks for great jade videos! Quick question, I’ve only had smaller “bush” type jade plants. Is there a difference in species between the “tree” type and the “bush” type or are the “trees” just etiolated or larger bushes? Might be a silly beginner question but enquiring minds....
The bush style one is a bunch of single stem cuttings all jammed into one pot. They are all the same (tree and bush style) jist arranged differently. Thanks so much for this question!!!
U have beautiful & extremely healthy looking Jade plants! My jade trees soil is damp but it’s leaves are wrinkly & droopy. I don’t think it needs water since the soil feels damp but I do y know what else it could be. It’s in a southeast facing window also……. I also have a baby Gollum jade plant that it’s leaves ALWAYS look wrinkly & feels squishy. It never seems to plump back up or grow no matter what I do & it’s in the same window as my jade tree. Do u have any ideas of what I can do to save them at all? I appreciate any advice. Thanks!
How to understand the difference between underwatering and overwatering Jade plant? I repotted my when I got it from store and watered it, then after awhile I noticed that leaves were soft, thin and wrinkled a little and I watered it again (soil was dry). I am able to squish it. After that 2 lower soft leaves fell off and now some more. New leaves are looking good though and not that thin. It faces north window
So if your jade plant is in proper soil, terra cotta pots, and have a grow light for the individual plant, is it being over watered if I water once every two weeks? I know winter is here but with new growth still appearing I don’t see a reason to change it up
Hi, Love your videos and beautiful jades! May I ask if you could share what’s going on the with humidifiers I see in the background? Do you have these on for specific plants and in only specific rooms? Many thanks!
