    Riva, the name says everything you want to hear. Quality and style with practicality too. Back in the '80's, as I prodded through the brokerage section of Motor Boat & Yachting; day dreaming of someday winning the pools. I often wondered, why are Riva so expensive? They were rarely reviewed, the world was smaller forty years ago. Fast forward to the internet age and online video reviews we can see why. A few months ago you reviewed the beautiful Princess 80. A brilliant boat it was, but if I was in the enviable position of having to decide which to order. Definitely the Riva.

    Great tour as always Hugo, thanks.
    Couldn’t stop staring at the yacht on the starboard side - another Riva?
    Guess it’s not a yacht you’re allowed to prepare food on if you’re on a night passage unless you can do it in the dark?!
    Galley next to the helm never seems a good idea to me on a big yacht.

    I like the 82 a lot. The aft area is really nice, and the solution of having the table lengthwise is very, very good.
    I'm not a big fan of the high gloss mahogany as I'm not 90 years old, but if that was satin black, or a light light tone, or even an actual colour, it would be incredible.

    Riva cut a critical corner that is important to owner comfort...the Seakeeper 18 gyro stabilizer is underpowered for the size and weight of this vessel. This dramatically reduces and may even completely eliminate the effectiveness of the gyro stabilizer. However, Riva did not make room for a properly sized gyro. This is an amateur move that makes one wonder what else is missing and what other corners were cut. I love the salon design. I also appreciate the way the owner's cabin has a hallway and crew cabin isolating it from the engine room. Additional floor plans for the staterooms would be great for those that don't need 4 bedrooms and would prefer a larger owner's cabin and associated features.

    Could you include some more critique in the tours? Lots of sharp edges, cabins seemed a bit oppressive. Certain bits seem more style over practicality. And could you even see the bow from the upper helm? Loved the inside saloon, dining space though, and the profile. Riva Diva? Hmm. I'd def. have it given though (and then exchange it for a Pearl or two). 😊

    I like this, beats 10+m for a Sunseeker or Princess and I actually like all the different levels. Didn't like the Galley much though and never like 2 x twin rooms, would much prefer one twin and 3 doubles. Very nice boat indeed.

    • @johnmoritz
      @johnmoritz 10 месяцев назад +1

      I'm rel. certain that Sunseeker & Princess offer more value / size at around 8m?

    • @johnmoritz
      @johnmoritz 10 месяцев назад +1

      PS: what I attempted to say was: my mental price / size / value mapping has the British Luxury brands offering more value / size in relation to price vs. the Italian luxury brands - but I could be wrong - obv. not easy to compare apples to apples here (because base / entry-level specifications may differ etc.). ;).

    • @sirmurf
      @sirmurf 10 месяцев назад

      I’d say within the Ferretti group, the Ferretti brand itself is closest to the Brits, with Riva pitched as a super-luxury product, so to speak.

    Thanks for the great tour of what is difficult to call a boat.
    It is a beautiful thing, indeed, form over function.
    But...
    From sitting in the saloon, hardly a view to the sea. Slipery surfaces at the stern, beautifully glossy painted, a perfectly slipery access to the stern resting area over transparent panels, and so many, so many hard corners waiting inside for the unwary. Better have a doctor on board. But as this boat is not designed to go to sea, but stay well visible and admirable to all at anchor, not too far from a fancy busy mediterranean marina, this should be OK. Greetings from the South China Seas.

    • @gotafarmyet4691
      @gotafarmyet4691 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, but if consider how much time you actually use that space other than to sleep they really don't need to be big. Those rooms actually become wasted space during the day. I just noticed though that the crew once again get a space the owner would place their dog.

      Precisely. It is actually a boat with really nice LIVING space. My wife and I toured this boat, and it is a very nice place to be. Many boats with larger staterooms tend to have salons and dining areas that feel cluttered and cramped. You live on the main deck and flybridge, not in the stateroom.

    There’s much to love here, but I’m not sure how that garage/sunpad fits the overall theme. It looks like they were going for an almost SUV style at the back and lost their nerve.

    the galley next to the helm station is not in my taste. I don't understand this position into a such stylish yacht

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 27 дней назад +2

      My wife and I toured this boat, and reality is that while it does have crew accommodation, Riva kind of sees it as an owner operator boat, with minimal crew - at least that's how it was presented to us. My thought is that having the galley there, means that it is very "inclusive" if that makes sense. And when I saw it, I really did not see anything that would make me think that there would be an actual problem.

    • @freesurfable
      @freesurfable 26 дней назад

      In this configuration - a couple without crew - I completely understand your position

  • @sandrosimoes9849
    @sandrosimoes9849 10 месяцев назад +2

    Fabulous walk through, but in my opinion there are two design flaws that I would not want, for one why would you want a galley right next to the helm it is very ugly, and then on the beach area why not have an up down platform going into the water with raising steps feature that you have on much cheaper vessels and all the gloss woodwork is to me very outdated, looks like it was designed by a very old person, for that kind of money it should have much more bling, and I could go on and on!

    • @hugoandreae3785
      @hugoandreae3785 10 месяцев назад

      Interesting points but think that highly lacquered woodwork is a Riva signature look so not sure they can ever ditch that completely

  • @GayorgVonTrapp

    I can just imagine being anchored off Anglesey as a rain storm comes in and trying in vain to get the Williams tender back in to its cubby hole at the back, and cursing like a trooper whilst my wife shouts “Everyone can hear you!” then finally getting inside piss wet through and getting seaweed on the carpet. I can think of better ways to spend £6m.

  • @yachtinglife7715

    at the end of the day you've paid €7 M+ for sitting cheek by jowl in crowded, noisy marinas or at anchor with the hum and smell of the generator needed to run the stabilizer which has its own high-pitched whine, with a bored crew milling around and nowhere to exercise (the Med is full of jellyfish, so forget swimming), and you ponder why did you need to buy that boat again when plenty are available for charter and you could have invested that €7M on a large seaside villa somewhere in the Med instead ?

      Lived in spain for 15 years and haven't gone swimming like 2 times because of jelly fish so don't know who feeds you that bs, if its that bad why buy a villa there then when the whole point of a villa near the med is so you can go swimming there also....
