It would be great if after all these years we could collectively stop blaming Alicia for the silver medal USA won in Beijing - she had 2 falls, 1 on Beam and 1 on floor. Back then, a fall was a 0,7 penalty x 2 = 1,4 points off. China won by over 2 points, so even without Alicia's falls USA wouldn't have won the gold...2008 was probably the strongest team China has ever had..
The injuries show that what these folks are doing is Sooooooo dangerous. Being off by even a tiny bit on something they've done successfully thousands of times is all it takes. 😢

I’m genuinely sorry for Chelsea Memmel, but denying her request to compete at National Championships was completely fair - why should she have been allowed after such a terrible beam routine where she fell not once but twice? Sure she had recently been injured, but plenty of equally amazing and talented gymnasts went and go through the same and they didn’t even think of asking for what is basically special treatment. Her talent doesn’t make her different nor that more special than those other aforementioned equally good gymnasts to deserve to have an exception made for her…just because of an injury dozens and dozens of gymnasts suffer and power through without asking for special treatment.

I was in utter shock. I saw Shilese easily being on the team and medalling in AA. So unfortunate!
