I wonder if elderly are instinctively more trusting because they pretty well need to be when depending on younger people to care for them.

What does a trustworthy vs untrustworthy faces look like at 7:00 to 7:20? I think the due diligence, reading contracts sounds pretty useful. The trustworthiness of a face must be really easy to fake, though.

The most important reason to be scammed in investments is greed and stupidity.

if it's too good to be true then it is like the little kid who walks up to you and says you dropped your money and hands you a 5 or 10 if you accept it then mom and dad jump out of the bushes to accuse you of stealing a child's money . or the lottery ticket scam. the penalty for getting caught should be so steep that it makes it not the worth the risk if your a good con man then you should be a good salesman but a thief is too lazy to get a legal job

I'm a retired banker and I get those cold call proposals for 10% to 12% returns and I ask, what are you investing in where the borrower/business is compelled to pay 12% in an economy where the average borrower can get loans at 5% to 6%? Who on god's green earth is willing to pay a rate of that magnitude? They have no reasonable explanation. It becomes a magic investment. I like that question the most. Who are you investing with?

So, let me get this straight, you put a man in a suit talking to a man wearing glasses with a stack of books behind him and warn about conmen in financial matters... promoting a book. I think I can see through this con. It's what we typically see on television right? This isn't an information session as much as it's an advertisement.
You mention older people, so I guess that's the demographic you're targeting.

YAWN. Madoff didn't pull investors in fool -they were begging him to take their money and invest it. Most brokers take investors money knowing that the companies they are representing are shit - management live off most of that money and the broker gets a nice kickback in commission and dinners - open your mind-these guys just want to sound smart. The security commission can be brought off as in Madoffs case - wasn't some close member of his family high up in the commission.
