my thoughts on the ice spirit discussion is sometimes it feels like you have to place it when it won't really give you value and it feels like you just "wasted" it, compared to other evos where generally when they are played they provide a lot of elixir value.
I think evo ice spirit is better than evo skelies (for defend) in this current meta for a cycle deck, because of the nerf evo skelies. Evo skelies always can't do anything when opponent has cheap spell like rage or arrows, it's just die quickly without do anything. But with the evo ice spirit, the opponent can't do anything when it's has jumped. So it's can be replace to evo skelies because it's more stable to get maximum value for defend

Evo ice spirit is the best evolution in some matchups like when you face golem or egiant.
