      @@gwEmbassy Can you persuade me too?) Because I have the opportunity to purchase a 707 as my first drum machine in my country for $900. But to be honest, I don't see the difference in practical application. If, for example, in 808 we have the ability to change the sound, then what will 707 give me (in terms of sound) compared to the 707 sample library? Please explain, because I can not decide. (sorry Google Translate)

    • @gwEmbassy

      $900 is far too much for a 707. I would consider a TR-8 as a first drum machine. It will be more versatile for you.

    I have just ordered a Rolanad TR-707 for a fairly reasonable price of £360 as the seller accepted my offer
    ( £40 off it's original listing price of £400 ). I know there are VST instruments and sample packs but it's not quite
    the same as having the real deal. One reason I like the TR-707 is because it's snare reminds me of the
    snare on a Casio MT-210 keyboard that my Aunt loaned to us when I was growing up, I also have a
    TR-505 that I bought cheap end of last year, another great drum machine that sounds similar to the
    TR-707 but it also has selected TR-727 latin percussion sounds.

    I love the TR707, my only regret is not getting one earlier as now the prices are silly, because of that I got the TR-6S (cut down version of the TR-8S). Thanks for the demonstration, it's nice to see the original in action 🙂

    Great video and amazing jam at the end!
    Another thing I noticed with the 707 is that it sounds best at high volume.
    It's not the fattest of ballsiest but it's very balanced and cuts through like nothing else.

    I would use that transient kick on the downbeat of a 4/4 and the kick with less transient attack for the upbeat of a 4/4 that way putting the snare as a layer on the up beat allows for the snares transient to shine rather than compete.

    I’m going to get a TR707 and I’d like to ask you how outputs work.
    Here I see the bass drum is plugged through the individual output.
    Does the bass drum also come out through the main stereo outputs in this case, or when you plug and individual output it’s muted in the main outputs?
    Thank you!

    • @gwEmbassy
      @gwEmbassy  2 года назад +1

      If you use the individual output, then the sound gets muted on the main mix output.

      @gwEmbassy Another thing I've got a novation drum station , is the 707 capable of acting as sequencer for drum station, so I can basically program Drum station in classic Tr style ? If its not capable would you know anyone that might be capable of doing a mod with the Midi so it will be able to do it .

    What do you think about the Beringer td3? you said you would like another 303 . I have one and it sounds cool with my 707 but unfortunately never had a 303 or the opportunity to use one.

    • @gwEmbassy
      @gwEmbassy  3 года назад

      From the demos I have seen, it looks legit. I have never tried one myself, but I have their SH-101 clone which is great. I expect the TD-3 is good too.

      @@gwEmbassy On the last Black Friday sale, I got the black one (of course) from Thomann for less than 100€ and it complements my TB-303 very well. The 303 is different, has a nicer groove, both rounder and more present sound, BUT... I always wanted to have a second 303, but prices are what they are now. Waited too long. Anyways, to be honest, I now think that having the TD-3 as an "assistive" bassline is probably the best choice as they mix very well. As we all know from science, no two objects can occupy the same physical space. So two 303s actually would require mixing changes in order to make them work together well. And that even comes after coming up with two patterns that work together. So in my case, that wish for a second TB-303 kinda vanished after I realized this. And the built-in distortion also works well.

    • @gwEmbassy
      @gwEmbassy  3 года назад +1

      That is interesting Hans. The black one is definitely the one to get! I would like a second 303 to go with my OG unit. I am waiting to see if they bring out a Devilfish version.

      @@gwEmbassy I am very hesitant in regards of buying Behringer clones. Something like the Neutron, Crave, DeepMind... no problem, but the cheap clones. Not so sure. But... for less than 100 Euros including 3 years warranty and the 30-days-return-policy at Thomann, I gave it a try. Regarding a DF-version, I really disliked how Behringer dealt with Robin Whittle. Plus I never liked the DF mods, simply sound-wise 😂 You may have luck regarding that wait ;-)

  • @ASH-ou4cg
    @ASH-ou4cg 3 года назад +1

    Where is this mod you mentioned, where you can even out the levels of the drum sounds, of the 707? At stock, some are louder than others and it is hard to be able to just throw the fader all the way up and down and still have things balanced. I find I have to baby where I place faders, to not have them jump out in a mix and this kills working in the zone, quickly.

    • @gwEmbassy
      @gwEmbassy  3 года назад +1

      I’ve not done a video about that mod. It’s one I came up with, for the exact reasons you mention here. It involves opening up the 707 and soldering some resistors in parallel with the sliders

      @@gwEmbassy wow. I was wondering why I couldn't find it. I tried looking it up last night, after you mentioned it and I came up empty-handed. The only mods I came up with, were circuit bending mods and that ROM replacement mod that you already did. Would you say that the mod you did, has the levels 100% equal amongst each other?
