It is ludicrous that people are complaining about the manner in which you decide to give free advice. They don't have to watch if they don't want to. I appreciate every minute you gave to share feedback and ideas!

Please keep these videos going! First Line Frenzy is such a valuable resource and teaches so much. I don't understand the entitlement in some people and I'm glad they were called out. Thank you for doing what you do, Martin and Rebecca (and the rest of the Reedsy team, of course).

Thanks for watching, Makenna! There's a lot of content here on Reedsy's FLF playlist, and I've created a channel as well for the FLFs I post on IG Live. Enjoy

I was really surprised by the complaints. I love this series. I even started a document to jot down all of the tips. The repetition of certain points and the various ways of explaining those points really help to embed it in my brain and understand it from all angles. Thank you so much for putting this together!

Watching this the day after (I had signed up for the live session, but in the morning I had a sudden college parents' evening sprung on me, that I couldn't get back from in time to make it to the live showing! 🙁) Thanks for doing this! With 2,000 people submitting a first line, I wasn't expecting mine to feature in this video (I don't have much luck in lotteries and raffles either 🙂) but I learned a lot from the comments on the lines that *were* featured. To all the complainers: this is the real world of writing feedback from professionals, people! They're not obliged to prioritise some people over others just because they're the ones that really, really want it so much.

I love these and your FLF on Instagram. They are so helpful not only for the first line of my work in progress, but for every line of it. My writing is tighter and more clear and strangely more poetic after all the First Line critiques I’ve ‘absorbed’.

Love these first line sessions. I love to assess them and then see how my assessment stacks up against Reedsy's. Sometimes we match, sometimes we don't. That's part of the fun.

Stern = offboard back of the boat. Aft = onboard back of the boat. In other words, stern would be the outside, while, aft would be the inside.

I knew a Mexican girl named Xochitl in grade school. I thought it was a cool name. I don't think it's problematic whatsoever to have a character named Xander in a children's book. It can be a leaning moment.

Interesting opinions. I didn’t warm to the Richard Paris & Richard London sentence. Probably better to give your two main characters two very different names unless you plan to confuse readers.

Normally I'd agree, B.T., but I got the impression the author was going for satire of a kind. One of the drawbacks of looking at first lines in isolation! Thanks for watching :0)
