Played BB few years ago, came back to listen this soundtrack after completing Baldur's Gate 3 a few times and dear god, now i'm convinced once again this is top tier soundtrack just like in BG3. You can play "Legion awakens" during Cazador fight and you feel the same level of quality.

The menu theme, Battle Brothers, fully captures the bleak dark fantasy nature of the setting IMO. It suits the feeling of brotherhood in a hostile and unforgiving world and is fitting for a bittersweet story of loss, determination, and dark victories.
"You who come after me, scribbling these Annals, by now realize that I shy off portraying the whole truth about our band of blackguards. You know they are vicious, violent, and ignorant. They are complete barbarians, living out their cruelest fantasies, their behavior tempered only by the presence of a few decent men. I do not often show that side because these men are my brethren, my family, and I was taught young not to speak ill of kin."
    - Glen Cook, The Black Company

Leading a band of outlaws, expanding our power and influence, and finally hearing the 00:32:34 or 01:28:30 track for the first time, we felt a surge of realization that we had reached another dimension. No longer were we just outlaws, vigilantes, or barbarians, but now we were facing the finest battalion of the feudal lord's regular army!

Thug life is one of the best pieces I've ever heard in my life, it has so many hooks, the sound of the hands on the strings and you just escalate it further and further, it just gets better and better. I don't want to exaggerate but it's amazing, I can't overstate it. It gives me euphoria every time. Couple that with playing the game, losing a brother or fighting with bear teeth and all, one shot-ing a big guy, it's one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I dunno how you get inspiration for something like this but I call it borderline genius.

It's a very good song from beginning to end and the sudden build into background vocals near the end is really well done. It's the kind of song where you adjust how you play the game to hear more of the music.

Got this game about a week ago now. The music for it is absolutely beautiful. Nothing like the utter terror/frustration of facing down an army of the dead backed by Geists while Curse of the Emperor sounds visions of my doom, narrowly saving some brothers during their panic-induced flight by cutting down the zombies standing ready to harry their retreat, then heading back to town to hear Alleys of Weissenhaven while listening to the clink of coin, the sloshing of good drink and the laughter of brothers with no gaps in the proverbial chorus.
Black Iron Pact was also a darn good welcoming tune for my first foray into an Orc camp I stumbled across shortly after finishing the tutorial too. 'Only three berserkers? Can't be too bad, I've taken out eight bandits with just three guys, even if these buggers are physically tough I can just - and my entire company is dead. Welp.'

"Rise and Fall of House Kaltenborn" is so fucking epic that it squeezes tears out of me. This track, it seems to me, is not just about noble houses, but about all of humanity. About the best that is in it and the struggle for this best. Something to die for with honor and a smile on your face. Not like "Thug Life" and "Hoggart's Hideout", which are more personal, about struggle for just your own life and survival. The battle for your own life is also epic, but in its own way, cowardly way. Tracks are not for you, but for them. And in the game, I don't want to fight noble houses, because it feels like a battle against humanity. And it's quite dramatic if noble houses go to war with each other. On the other hand, fighting against bunch of scumbags who are trying to save they lives at the cost of humanity? Sure, why not? And in each track you can find something that plays on different feelings, depending on who it represents. Genius soundtrack.

I'll never forget my first successful company. (this is a long one, I kind of got into it a bit)
Fuchs thee Establishment, a group of Ironman barbarians who rode to the southwest and made their fame and fortune battling orcs for the mad family faction who resided at Castle Wolfenstein, and the occasional problem solving for Ras Sanan. Though named Fuchs Thee Establishment, ironically, got tied up with a noble war but were all too happy to take revenge on the northern clans for chasing us so far from our home of origin. The final battle took place 36 troops to my 12, though we were about as prepared as we could be, and they didn't have DOOM on their side, so even match. DOOM being one of the original brothers, I can't remember his original name, nor ever took off his helmet so had no clue what he looked like. I had changed it from Doomed as by the hundredth day he was missing and eye, a finger, a toe, had a punctured lung, and was generally disgruntled, on top of only having one trait to be disloyal, yet despite all that he stuck with the company, so maybe disloyal to death itself. He finally met his end in that battle to end the noble war, utterly surrounded, though did end up taking a few enemy soldiers with him. The battle was won with DOOM as the sole casualty. The Fuchs Thee Establishment company, after receiving a significant stipend for essentially single-handedly shifting the balance of power in the region, were still largely shunned by their contractiers. I was offered the chance to end the campaign there.
Having lost DOOM, though he was but one of many talented fighters capable of beating any foe up to that point, it seemed that it was time for the company to take their well earned rest from the gritty fighting for rich twats who'd never respected them. Almir, another barbarian who survived since the very beginning became the Barbarian king in the north. The priest who'd joined us at the start believing he could change us, who turned out to be just as bloodthirsty as DOOM, saw the light once again and returned to his pasture practicing his beliefs that had lapsed him for all the days he spent with Fuchs thee Establishment. Edmund one-shot, a cheery bloke who seemed to know a lot of serving hands, willing to share jewelry they'd nicked off of some nobleman they'd worked for in the past together ended up leading the company onto riches without me. I retired to the woods in relative good wealth and standing, which after all is what I'd set out to achieve. I sat at that end screen reading on what my company got up to after ending that campaign for about 20 minutes feeling genuine pride.
This game showed more heart and character and soul and genuine role-playing than any other I'd played before. And of course a large part of that was its soundtrack which at all times felt appropriate to the moment and the in-game world. It blew me away, Traversing the Northern Clanlands and Adrenaline Rush being my favourites but there are countless others which I loved. I hope there is more planned for the future of Battle Brothers, a legendary game.

    Incredible soundtrack.
Having moved over to the likes of Wartales as of late to give that a go, the lack of this wonderful music has been just plain obvious. This isn't a critique of those developers and the team they hired or worked with their musical score, but more of a recognition of just how great this music in particular truly is. This game has some of the greatest music for a video game ive ever heard. Asolutely stunning tracks here. Imma explain a few of my favorites here-
32:34 Laying siege to hammerburg is amazing. It slowly builds up from intense to insane. Fighting huge noble armies is one of the most fun parts of this game and having a badass soundtrack to go with it just makes it all the more enjoyable. Bravo.
45:17 Hoggarts Hideout. The song is great all the way through but DAMN that ending is amazing, so much emotion. Its probably the first track that I heard that made me think like 'Damn this soundtrack is pretty good.'
1:50:58 Grinded by the Gears of war. An odd choice but when I started to play this game I did many attempts with the deserters origin. This music plays at the beginning and after many attempts I slowly learned to love it. Its so quant and devestating yet beautiful and captures the setting of sneakily escaping from the noble house you deserted to find new prospects.
(Not on here) Chant of the old gods. The instrumental selection and Slow buildup is insane, I love the part where all of the instruments cut out and slowly build up from that one norse instrument
All of the southern soundtracks(Also not on here but all VERY well done) The arabian instruments and intense buildup makes them out of this world, fighting nomads and beasts in the south can sometimes get a little boring but the soundtrack is like what butter is to bread, it goes enhances the flavor, and that flavor in this case is the musical synergy with the intense southern battles.
Of course their are many more tracks that Id like to list out, I feel like I could make a whole documentary length review on every single piece. I dunno if you guys are gonna see this but y'all did an amazing job capturing everything that battle brothers is, definitely one of my top 5 for soundtrack up there with oblivion and dark souls

Thanks Divine! That was one of the last tracks we finished before shipping the final version of the game and the soundtrack. Work on it started way back when we hit early access as one of the tracks for the world map, but it grew a lot since then and it did not have that epic trailer vibe originally.

You need to compose something longer with part from 1:59:56 and especially from 2:00:28. I click repeat after 2:01:00. Gosh I can listen those 30 seconds over and over.
I also really enjoy Thug Life, Laying Siege to Hammerburg, Traversing the Northern Clanlands, second half of The Pillage, last minute of Four Days to Crows Nest, Rise and Fall of House Kaltenborn. Double that and you will have other pieces that are also fine, but not for standalone play (outside of game). I wonder how will your music play during role playing session (you know pen and paper type of game)

when I get my money this month, I'm getting battle brothers, if not this month, then next month I will certantly buy it, I absoluteley love the soundtrack of this game, and the gameplay too, and it has lots of roleplay and replay potential aswell
My personal favourites are Thug life, hoggart's Hideout, the homestead and Rise and fall of house Kaltenborn

At this point I think I like the soundtrack more than the game. Every single track is fucking spot on. The brigands and raiders track is amazing and upbeating.
The undead/skeleton track even has those creepy string-y like sounds you see in horror movies, and they also sound like rattling bones.
Jesus christ this OST is so fucking good. It's fucking S tier. Probably the best I've heard in a game if it wasn't for the fact that Doom Eternal Exists.
Great job, and just like that game, at this point Battle Brothers feel like buying an amazing soundtrack that comes with a free game.

    My top 5 combat songs:
    Thug Life (Brigands)
    Warpath Ceremony (Goblins)
Rise and Fall of House Kaltenborn (Noble Houses)
    The Hunt (Beasts)
    A Hidden Menace (Goblins)
The last one is a difficult tie between Hoggart's Hideout and Hidden Menace or possibly Black Iron Pact. These are good osts but I feel the goblins just have a great ambience in the game and the songs are really fitting. Lovely stuff! Especially the main menu music has made me quite emotional.

Still having a regret about giving this game a shot so late after its release, it's such a gem. The OST is easily one of the most fitting, tight compositions I've heard, especially within strategy genre. Already bought the soundtrack on Steam to include into my playlist, stellar work!
As a side-note, I think one of the tracks is missing, the one that plays on the campaign end, or in some tutorial scenerios - a different version of Title Theme, slightly calmer, nostalgic even. Is there a possibility to include it in the future, perhaps along with the coming tracks for Blazing Deserts? If not, is there a reason it was omitted?

    • @breakdownepiphanies3364
      @breakdownepiphanies3364  4 года назад +4

Thank you for your comment John, means a lot to us, especially the part about scoring for the strategy game genre. We tried to strike a balance between not taking the music too center stage and still delivering memorable pieces. Happy that you feel like we did a good job at that task.
Regarding the calmer version of the title track/main theme that plays on the world map, that's "Battle Brothers, Pt. II" at 01:54:33. We didn't leave out any tracks on the OST. I think Overhype decided to include one or two earlier demos as starts for some of the new Origins but that's about it. Tell me if that's the track you were looking for, if not feel free to describe it again and I'll try to point you towards it.

@@breakdownepiphanies3364 Hah, I've listened to this stuff too many times to miss anything! I'll just use a link with a timestamp to someone else's playtrough, if that's not a bother - ruclips.net/video/Sq2J-aDEUMc/видео.html It's a bit quiet, but definitely a slightly different variation of the main theme, possibly a demo version, like you've said - but a good one nonetheless, and really fitting for an ending. You can also hear it in some pre-made scenarios.
      Appreciated the response, anyhow!
