  • This is a moving and suspenseful thriller on the open seas told as only Joseph Conrad (author of the justly famous, Heart of Darkness and Lord Jim) can tell, given his vast experience on the sea.

Amazing author.....English not his first language, but he composed so beautifully in English.
The captain has so much to lose, but he serves as a source of salvation for the seaman at his own great risk.
Conrad went to sea at 16. His parents had died, and his guardian was an uncle. He didn't have much education, but he became a sea captain, a great writer, and clearly understood the working of the human mind.
    Excellent narration...thank you.

Great story in Conrad's inimitable prose....adjectives and adverɓs aplenty. Well narrated.

Great rolling sentences like the sea itself. Conrad made skipper in only seven years, almost unheard of in his day. He was a fine mariner and a great writer. A good reader to send me off to sleep with the headset still on.
