Any cell phones at his location ? They use cell phone location to identify people who were together at that location/time. Use it to find out who is responsible.
Up close and personal...whoever did this, knew Dustin would not be armed, or attacked him as he slept. Random?...or was it someone who knew where he'd be and that he would be alone. He was involved in a custody battle, with his Ex. Indeed, there are psychopaths everywhere but this feels like a crime of total rage and personal anger.

@@KurtG-nn2cz Don't know any details.....if his truck was taken by the assalent then of course.....you can rule out a dogman attack of course FYI seems to an incredible amount of compelling testimonys now days of the existence of this cryptid creature called the dogman......for the sake of argument it's a terrible tragedy what has happened,..our thoughts should be with the family above and beyond everything else... It is possible that it is a Psycho that always wanted to chop someone up or a Serial Killer . If they left their phone home and drove out there etc and just randomly killed this guy be very hard to find the killer. He could live in the area or he could of been passing through. There was a case some young guy murdered a homeless guy just to see what it was like. The homeless guy was well known in the community hence the Police getting involved quickly. The young guy got his car stuck in the river the night he murdered the homeless guy and the Police were there and they had him towed out cannot remember how the Police were able to search his car maybe the tow truck operator reported it because there was blood coming out of the trunk and the Police would have probable cause to search. the young psycho I believe actually had the mans head in a bag in his bedroom. This sounds like the work of a Serial Killer or a Serial Killer want to be. Cops will start with his closest friends/family to find a motive if they all check out then it will be very difficult to find his killer. this is something out of a horror movie. terrible way to die.
