I think the simplicity was his goal. I'm glad you touched on that. The fast pace of PTX vs. his need to be grounded in family and nature. With Change on the Rise and The Otherside, someone better be feverishly scribbling out a script to use them in the soundtrack. Thank you for the reaction and the comments.

While this song title may seem to be about death, it isn’t. This song relates to the 6+ years he lived in LA while he was with Pentatonix. He said that he’s really not a city boy, and tried to escape back to nature whenever he could. As he drove out of the city, he said he felt like he was going back to his roots, back to nature. He called this escape going to ‘the other side’. The result is this peaceful song that always makes me want to take a slow, deep breath.
To me, this song us all about the sentiment carried in the lyrics. I hear a wish to join the natural world, and the ethereal feeling and pace of the music resonates perfectly with that sentiment. He's asking the forest, the water, and the moonlight through the trees to take him through the barrier of his humanity, to their realm of harmony and peace with the universe. Just beautiful.

Love this! Yes... to Simply things is not a bad thing. To be able to slow the pace of life down long enough to soak in all that is around you... in this case, nature. Avi talked about in Nashville how this song is his escape to nature from the big city... hence “The Otherside”.

It helps to hear his explanation of the song. Granted, it was sad to hear him talk of his death and going to "the other side."
This actually about escaping back to Nat. He did perform a song about death in Nashville called When I Die, where he explains that he wants to be part of the circle of life by being buried by the Sequoias, to let his body feed the new saplings, so we can all breathe. Check some of the fan videos taken at those concerts.
You should react to the video "Steelheart MTV Unplugged (My Favorite Band)." You WON'T regret watching it. Or you could just type in "STEELHEART" and pick any of the actual music videos made by the band from back then, and make multiple reactions off of those videos (the specific video I said at first is a compilation of live acoustic versions of 3 songs at the same concert).
The singer, Milijenko Matijevic, has a range that is ridiculous for a male singer to have. This is the unplugged version, so everything is pretty much all acoustic, instead of everything being the normal late 80s GLAM Metal sound that all the songs in that video would usually have.
You WILL NOT be disappointed by that video. In fact, you'll probably just be amazed by "Mili's" voice, who is easily in the top 15 Greatest Male Singers of All Time.
