it's insane how the YT Play Button has lost its value over the years. i remember a few years ago (maybe like 7 or 8 years idk) a Brazilian RUclipsr cut his 100k button in half and there was a HUGE backlash from the entire Brazilian YT Community, i'm talking about stuff like losing thousands of followers in less than a week + everyone talking about it all over other social media like Twitter and Facebook
It also shows how recent times, in an attempt for fame and recognition, people are willing to throw away all respect. I'm fine with this Waterjet channel's version as they didn't do it on the original but BOUGHT another one.
The play button never had any value to begin with , its rhe physical equivelent of an achievement on a console for doin something for so long and in such a stupid way , its always been worthless shit
@@groundedgamingThe achievement is the subscriber number, the quality of content and the legacy. It's not whether you have a laminated piece of wood on the wall. You Tube cuts revenue or rejects uploads from content creators for the most ridiculous of reasons. There is no longer the prestige in getting one, especially from a platform which has become a strict totalitarian.
@@groundedgaming where did they say this wasn't the original?
Well, these days YT is very much hatred by the audience for several reasons. Smearing massive ads into our faces, fighting a war against adblockers, censoring channels which have the wrong opinion. I have a bookmarking system and I have collected hundreds of YT bookmarks - nearly half of those are not working anymore and the link just says "Account suspended for policy violations" or so. And I didn't bookmark any hateful crap, just good, helpful videos. It's also insane how much of the money donated to YT channels actually goes to YT and not the creators. In the end this is big tech VS. creative content creators. They are so greedy, it also shows in this video, with the plywood.

might be hard to get your hands on one but I'd be interested to see what the OG gold play buttons were made of, think so many people are getting 1m subs now compared to early youtube days they have probably lowered the quality of the playbutton to keep up with the amount they need to do

I'll play devils advocate, why make a whole plaque from solid metal... it looks solid and well made, and the visible portions are sheets of aluminum, which allows them to have the proper finish. This perspective only pertains to the plaque itself, it's not a defense for youtube and how it treats its content creators.
It actually makes sense to me why they would do it like this. They made the actual play button from solid metal, while only having a shell for the display part. The reason they do this is to cut down on the cost as much as possible. If it was made entirely from metal, the cost of manufacturing it would be exponential, not to mention the cost of the metals as well.
yeah, the billions they earn every year and they cant afford to actually make a damn proper decorative piece thats at the very least decent. looking at the material i can make a rough estimate that it cost them about $80 at the very most to make and thats counting labor cost and shipping because lets be honest we all know youtube is using child slave labor in china to make those. there is no excuse for such shitty construction.
I get it, but lets say they would use iron, it's only nearly 1.50$ per kilogram, so even if for example they would need 20kg to make a button its only a mere 30$ and nowhere near 700$ they charge for a second one (thats plywood mostly too lol) and aluminum like they use for the actual triangle in the play button is also only around 2.50
@@starberry847 It's more about the cumulative cost. While it's true that small amounts of iron and aluminum are indeed cheap. Those prices still add up, as they send out these play buttons and displays to any YT channel that hits certain milestones.
This can easily get into the thousands of dollars, and let's not forget the weight factor as well. Iron is dense and heavy, then there's the cost of processing the metal as well in order to make the button, display and everything.
It's far more economical to make a shell for the display, rather than making it entirely out of metal. So the cost of the display and buttons is a combination of material costs, processing, assembly, and labor. YT also has to commission these displays and buttons from companies and/or shops that specialize in such things, so their also paying those companies/shops for their services too, so it's also a means of cost reduction in order to keep the displays and buttons from being a detriment rather than a positive.
Aluminum is cheaper than decent wood almost always.
Be it in small or industrial amounts
Yayyyy the OGs are back!!!! Also congratulations on hitting 1 million subscribers!!!

how much money do you think they make off of a person with a million subs?
Probably more than a gold play button would cost, certainly more than an aluminum or brass play button would cost.
They're just being cheap and downgrading the RUclips experience as per usual.
The previous huge life changing milestone of 1M subs becomes a footnote and not even worth keeping.
I really doubt that after accounting for costs, with the garbage ad rates of post financial crisis, they are making a huge amount of money on a random channel with a million subs. Not to mention bots, adblock, viewers from geolocations with bad ad rates. (People rarely talk about it, but a US viewer is way more valuable than one from India for example, financially speaking.)@@UnknownGamer40464
It's kind of hard to imagine how that is worth $700, when it probably doesn't have much, if any, real gold.
