  • Today's video continues my explorations in to using Guitar Amp SIMS - in my studio and for Live work! Today I'm looking at how I use Amplitude 5's Fender Collection 2 to get tones for my songs when recording.

Thanks for the demo. Always wondered how those Fender Tweed sims sound...Pretty good, actually, but I'm thoroughly in the camp of real amps over sims.
I have the Soft Tube amp stuff (Marshall) that I never use. I really feel like it gives you the flavor, but it's not quite there (at least regarding the 2203 model, I had a 2204 on long-term loan, now gone, but honestly it was so loud I barely used it, and it didn't sound so good at a lower volume, turned up I literally thought it was going to break my windows.) The soft tube also models an AC30 (among others)... I also have an English-made hand-wired AC30 it's not even close. The sims are fun to mess around with, and maybe even useful in a pinch, but nothing beats a real tube amp in my opinion. Again it seems these Tweeds are pretty good in your video, I also have a Tweed Deluxe Boutique clone made by Clark Amps. Sounds fantastic. Nothing beats the sound of a pushed Tweed amp!
Also, I do have the Ampeg SVT suite, now that sounds pretty close to a real ampeg. Just last week I did a split signal recording, one being direct with the software and the other signal going to an Ampeg B25b recorded with a condenser (AT4033) and an MD421.When compared, naturally I preferred the mic'd cabinet, but damn, the Ampeg suite was not far off. In the mix it was even harder to tell, and that may be the case with these Fender sims as well.
