  • Today we are going to replace a cheap "Big Box Store" sump pump which is failing with a high quality super quite Liberty 257 sump pump and you will be amazed at how (1) easy the project is and (2) just how quiet the Liberty 257 sump pump is. As I looked all of RUclips to hear it for myself and could find it so I made this video so you can just how easy it is to instal as well how super quite this pump is compared to the sold by the big box stores!
Safety note: always use care around electricity and water! Ensure when working with either the old or new pump it is unplugged and only plug it in when you are safely away from the water!
Stuff I used in this project:
    Liberty 257 Sump Pump: amzn.to/2Gej86p
    Adapter, 1-1/2" Hub x NPT Male: amzn.to/2KmQYss
    Schedule 40 PVC Pipe 5', 1-1/2" Size, White: amzn.to/2k0WMNn
    90 Degree Elbow, 1-1/2" :amzn.to/2IEy8Qy
    Oatey 30234 4 Oz Cpvc/Purple Primer Handy Pack: amzn.to/2rIAjbSCity Water BackUp: amzn.to/2rJDWOT
Note: the block in the bottom of sump is typically a patio tile to keep the pump up off the bottom to prevent it suckng slint or other debies which may make its way into the sump opening.

Thanks for posting this review. My wife heard a rumbling sound and realized our sump pump was running continuously. I didn't even know what brand we had, but discovered a Liberty model 247 pump running with a manufacturer date of 7-2011. Considering it's May 2023 now, it gave a great service life. Going to use your Amazon link to 'upgrade' to the 257 (it seems to be almost the same as the 247, but uses slightly less amperage). Appreciate your time to create a review!

Thanks for the video. I have used the Liberty 287 pump for over 20 years in the same weekend house. I am currently on my third one. Each one lasts about 10 years. The failure point on my pumps is the VMF switch. It does not always trip on after about 10 years, which I consider an excellent service life for being immersed in water all the time. Fortunately, I have a backup pump on a little higher plane that works if the Liberty fails. I do have a Liberty replacement VMF switch and O ring that I have had for ten years. I may use it and make my newest old Liberty 287 a newer back-up.

The check valve you have is designed for vertical installation only, you need a different check valve can work in a horizontal installation.

Thanks for this video, will likely be installing this pump soon. Do you have a check valve later on down the discharge line? If so you need the required 1/8" hole drilled into the pipe near where it's screwed into the pump to prevent airlock of the pump, according to the install instructions.

This is a great comment. You're exactly right. Just have watched the instructions booklet and it states that too. 3mm or 1/8" hole at the bottom of the evacuation/discharge pipe, near the connection of the screwed on pipe.

My brand new less than 30 days old Liberty 257 pump malfunctions with heavy rains. They won't replace my pump unless i send it to them, they test in their lab, and if they deem it defective, i get a reimbursement. In the meantime i have to go buy a new pump. I'm going back to the big box store where they will replace anything with a receipt no questions asked.

Levelguard switches are by far the best switch’s for sump pumps. No need to stage pumps and the switch is tested to well over 1,000,000 cycles. Just buy a manual pump, and as a bonus the levelguard has built in protection for the pump as well.

I only use levelguard and always will.
My levelguard is teamed up with a Zoeller N53. Thst combo is going good for 8 years now.
      Highly recommended switch.

You would have no such good luck as I am still here and the liberty pump is doing well!

I would have like to heard the noise it makes when it discharged the water from the basement to the outside.

Nice pump. I think you forgot to drill the relief hole, usually a 1/8" hole above the discharge line.

      Built into bottom of pump

@@briandolan9123 Liberty 257 pumps should have a relief hole drilled into the pipe IF a check valve is being used, which yours has in your piping. Page 5 at the bottom of the instructions has this. Have a look. Yes I know there is one at the bottom of the pump but those are the manufacturer's installation instructions.

The plastic will still be good in 500 years. Reuse it.
