Hi everyone, after using the round over bit in the router I used the orbital sander with 150 grit paper to sand the boards before finishing. Thanks for watching, Jon
The patterns looked SO GOOD! I’ve seen a lot of boards made from scraps that don’t seem to have much symmetry and not particularly easy on the eyes. Great builds, as always, Jon! I wish you were able to put out a new video every single day! They’re entertaining, informative, and downright fun to watch! 👍👍
Thank you so much for this. I had no idea about the cauls. I’ve made a lot of cutting boards now, but never thought of that. Would not have to rely on the surface planer as much then. Always great coming to see your videos.
Very, very, cool Jon. I'm sure the boys will cherish those boards for a long time. The square jig for the router was pretty neat. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
I started thinking the other day, I’m going to build some cutting boards for a couple of people for Christmas. Great timing on this video, and happy holidays to you Jon. All the best !
A second, light pass with the router would remove most of the burn marks. I dreaded sanding juice grooves until I found that those 3M finishing (black) scouring pads do a pretty good job of smoothing across the grain without leaving any scratch marks. A soft wire brush for the drill or Dremel works too.
How far in from the edge of the cutting board do you do the juice groove and how wide & deep is the juice groove? Also curious as to what you could sell these for 🤔
Great video, that board looks awesome. Not sure why its called a juice groove, as the across the grain section would technically speaking be a dado. Semantics i know, i guess its just simplifying it.
Cutting boards look great! If you are a beginning woodworker I would not recommend using the double-sided tape routing method and instead use exterior perimeter boards to route the juice groove out with.
More great work Jon, Thank you
That’s a great tip on the juice groove, simple and easy.

Thanks for taking the time to teach us new skills.
Nothing better than a handmade gift. People have forgotten that.
Very nice boards. Great tip on using plywood for guide for juice groove. No need for fancy jigs or attachments on router. Thank you!
Wish I saw this last year when I was trying to figure out how to do the juice groove when I made a few cutting boards!
I’ve always wanted to make a cutting board and didn’t know I could do it without a planar! Thank you.
No planing, straight to sanding! That's impressive. Love the colours in cutting boards, Jon!
Thanks Jon. I love the simple jig for the juice groove. It worked great for me!
I’m new to your channel and have to say this is probably the best video I’ve seen on making boards. Very well explained. 🇮🇪
Congratulations on your work! Have a wonderful 2022 with great health and success!
Great tip for cutting the juice groove, Jon. Take care.

You have a neat and simple way of doing and explaining thing love the content
Really beautiful work, Jon! Amazing how they look! 😃
And thanks for all the tips!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love how these turned out Jon. Nice job.
Great info Jon. Simple for beginners like me to follow.
Very, very, cool Jon. I'm sure the boys will cherish those boards for a long time. The square jig for the router was pretty neat. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Another great one!
Nice tip on the cauls. Headed to shop to tape up a set.
Great video Jon

Nice work Jon, if I had one of those boards I'd be slicing limes for whiskey
A pretty useful video!👍
This is like listening to Harvey Keitel make cutting boards and I am not upset about that…! 👌😂
Ha ha ha Mr White if I remember correctly 👍😂

Did you spray lightly with water to pop the grain before final sand?
I didn’t, but that’s a good idea… After using the round over bit in the router I sanded the boards with 150 grit paper
Hello, sir. I love your videos. Could you tell me the dimensions of your cutting boards on this video please and thank you.
How far in from the edge of the cutting board do you do the juice groove and how wide & deep is the juice groove?

Thanks!
👍
How far from the edge do you typically like to make your juice grooves?
I really hoped you would show us a trick on how to deal with those burn marks ...
Very nice cutting boards--almost too nice to be used as regular kitchen cutting boards.
How fine (grit) do you use for your final sanding?
After using the round over bit in the router I used the orbital sander with 150 grit paper to sand the boards before finishing.
@@JonPetersArtHome Thanks
👏👏👏👍👍👍😍😍
A home made router jig would work a lot better in these cases, closer to the edge and wont' leave a weird gap in the corners.
Personally I like how the groove goes. Less chance of spillage.
Cutting boards look great!

Very nice looking cutting boards. The only thing better would have been end-grain cutting boards.
I bet your sons are very excited about getting the cutting boards for Christmas instead of a mini bike 😜🤪😛
You only showed sanding with the 80 grit on the belt sander. Did you go to a finer grit with a different sander or was the 80 grit enough?
yes I used the orbital sander with 150 grit paper to sand the boards before finishing.
