You have a really good approach to sound design. I always make the patch first and then try out melodies but it makes so much more sense to listen to the sound in context while you're making it 😅
By the way cool trick I do is putting reverb on reversed samples like crash or cymbals so that it's not so chopped off when sample gets played to the end. I heard some samples here which could have that feature on and make it sound better

you can shift+alt+click a modulated knob in serum to change the modulation type instead of having to go through the matrix
