    Back in the early 80's my Dad had hooked up several rotary phones (in addition to our house rotary phone) through our house, out to the workshop and to the cubby house as an intercom system. There were about 6 or 7 and each had their own number. He did it so mum didn't have to race all over the property trying to hunt us down, just call around.

    There is something oddly satisfying about the dial of a rotary phone :) I still love it. Someday I want to own a rotary phone as my actual landline.

    Fellow Aussie here, we had a phone almost exactly like this until I was maybe ten or eleven. I remember if I wanted to talk to a friend I'd take the cord that plugged it in right around the corner for a little privacy. When cordless came in we were kinda afraid of them, there were all these stories of getting zapped by lightening while on the phone. Good memories. 🙂

    Grew up with a rotary phone. Fun project and what a lovely and caring hubby you got! Nice to see that anyone can make mistakes (sometimes it feels like I´m the only one)- Hope the pens reach to Sweden soon.

    • @SarahRenaeClark
      @SarahRenaeClark  3 года назад +2

      That’s why I don’t edit out my mistakes- there’s no point pretending I’m perfect! It doesn’t help anyone! We are all learning and it’s important to know that mistakes are a part of the creative process.
      I think the fear of making a mistake is one of the biggest things that can stop creativity in the first place. I always recommend just giving things a go! Mistakes are part of the process!

    7:00 When Shane asked about the primer, I was thinking the same thing...sort of. I learned the hard way that acrylic paint doesn't stick to plastic very well when I was in the middle of a project years ago. I couldn't run to the store to get a primer, so I frantically started searching the internet for a solution. I found out you can lightly sand the plastic surface with sand paper (or even a nail file), and the paint will stick better. IMO it's not as good as using a primer, but it worked. And the paint is still sticking to the plastic bottle I painted few years ago.

    We had a rotary phone when I was little but I don't really remember using it much.
    I just got some Arteza paint pens and I'm still trying to figure them out!!
    I wonder if sanding down the phone would have done just as well. But you'd probably have to go to the hardware store to get sandpaper either way!!
    I wonder if you could have pumped the paint into a glass or ceramic palette and mixed it there to use with a paint brush???
    Oh my gosh this looks like it took forever but it looks sooo good!!
    Amazing job!!!

    • @SarahRenaeClark
      @SarahRenaeClark  3 года назад +4

    I have a nostalgic story about touch tone phones. In the U.S., in the late 70's, someone actually created a small music book people could use to play songs with the phone like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," and "Baa Baa Black Sheep". It was one song per page, and I'm pretty sure it included Christmas songs. My mom bought the book, and we had a blast playing each of the songs in one night! I'm not sure how we didn't end up accidentally calling anyone out of the country or anything, but we didn't. I guess the person who'd written the book had to prove this wouldn't happen in order to get the book published. The funny thing is I have never seen this book around since that time, and I don't remember what it was called. Unfortunately, our book was lost in moving around at some point.
