The family couldn't ask for a better Grandpa, and Grandpa couldn't ask for a better family. It's very refreshing to see he has as much care and attention to detail in doing his job as the rest of the family does. Also, having the wisdom of someone with many years of experience is an incalcuable resource. More Granpda videos!
Oklahoma rancher here, I'm 61 now but I swear 90% of everything I know about farm stuff and equipment was learned from my grandpa(s). You get those people that lived through the depression and they were masters at making things with their hands or repairing them. They had no choice. I also found it interesting that they hardly ever through anything away. They still reused food cans, bread sacks etc. We have 2 quilts made from flour sacks my grandmother saved. She told us the colorful flour sacks provided material to make dresses out of. I know that sounds corny but I respect it very much so.
I have to agree with the lost wisdom. I retired at 68 after 40 years in skilled trades, with Journeyman Millwright, Journeyman Electrician, and Machinist's cards. I would have liked to have worked with some apprentices, but my immediate managers were worried that I might be after their jobs, so I was treated as though I knew nothing, and then was dismissed.
These girls will learn this, they know it's gonna be up to them someday. I can see they are very attentive to what's going on all around them. All these machines are expensive but are necessary, they have to work long enough to pay for themselves, then after that comes the profit. Very efficient and attentive ladies they are, all business
It is so lovely to see grandpa passing on his skills, the girls not only respecting his wisdom but wanting to learn 😊, it is a dying world , when most don't know hard work now just show all you tube videos , , so wholesome, what a great video,I really enjoyed it , grandpa rocks hahaha, I could sit and listen to him all day everyday and I am 57 😂.you never stop learning , you girls and your whole family bring hope for a great future 😊.
You have a wonderful family....you learned skill sets are disappearing very quickly....You truly have won the lottery....your wonderful personality is a very big part...Blessings from Powell River BC CANADA...
I like Grandpa he’s staying sharp and has his shoulder to the wheel helping the family business. Everyone needs an elder like your’s. Please tell him we care.❤
There is no one greater as a teacher as one with experience and the ability to use common sense. Thank you grandpa, you are a great teacher with a great student.
Apparently your Grandpa has put some time into learning these machines, I’m impressed that he took that on, his mind is sharp as those cutting points on the blades. I’m sure he is glad to be an important part of the family business. God bless him!
I so appreciate my Dad who is now 85 Tool and Die maker. Machine Repair. He is a master craftsman in his trade. I wish so badly I could have learned all he knows. Blind in one I and doesn’t see real good out of the other. He could do things with an old lathe that would rival modern technology. When the old timers are all gone Gen Z will be lost. Be thankful that you are seeing what he does so you can duplicate him in time. Get the little Brother to pay attention to grandpa. It’s vital for the survival of your business!
GP, speaking of awesome jobs, you did great. This was super interesting, the shop looks great and your presentation was professional. I hated to see it end. Your ventilation system looks top drawer. This entire production was so well done!
That's great the way ya'll have that sharpener set up. Ya'll did a great job with it. Grandpa Larry seems to love it, It will make his job easier and faster too. Thanks for sharing ladies and have a great evening. TTFN
What a great video, Grandpa is a wonderful font of knowledge and experience, brim full of common sense and willing to learn how to use new equipment and so happy to pass on his knowledge. I'm sure you know what a terrific person he is; because you treat him with love and respect. I enjoy Emerald's topping and tailing this video, and huge respect must go to Jade's video skills. It's not easy to capture the close ups that are important to understanding what's going on. Thank you all!!
Great job Grandpa! Between you and your granddaughters you took this slipshod part of the operation and turned it into a well oiled, precision machine. All those rusty blades moldering away in the barn was LCLY throwing money into the compost pile. Never underestimate what a old person can accomplish with a little support from their family. I'm really happy for you Grandpa. 😊
I grew up in the late 70s 80s cutting timber with my father. He died 12/26/91 after being in Hospital 6 weeks. His saw was dull and a tree split and fell on him as he was walking away. I was at the log yard and did not hear the saw. Found him and cut 5 feet of the tree off. His head was between his legs. Tell Ken to keep a sharp saw and eyes on the trees. I just found your channel and love it already. Brings back alot of good memories. We used a MF 40 frontend loader and a 240 timber jack cable skidder. I know where ya"ll are as I hauled frieght to Rockchester. I had a girl friend in Northumberland. I am in SC. Can Ken put a camera on the skidder and make a all day video. And what happens to the slabs you cut off the logs. 😁😁😁
Thank you Grandpa that was well done I learned something new and it was enjoyable to watch. I am impressed with your family and the team work you all are amazing.
It would be great to see a comparison of what the cut looks like between a blade that has been in use and a newly sharpened blade. I think others would be interested too.
Too bad there is no smellovision.. dull blades burn and stress the motors.. BUT I agree,, A couple slabs with a dull blade and a couple with a fresh grind.. Cleaner, straighter, smoother, safer.....
Don't know anything about saw blades much less how to sharpen them. This video did a whole lot to change that. Great job my Grandpa and the camera person trying to film something that was probably not simple or easy! Well Done.
Glad to see you guys not say "oh, its good enough" and are going to the next level. Looks like a precise piece of machinery with an expert handling it.
If your concerned about the gullets once you've sharpened it, we used to run a die grinder in the gullet to knock out the grind mark this will help to stop it cracking, I'm a Sawdoctor from Australia.
What an awesome product. Seems like this will save you a ton of money in the long run. Boss man should be very happy that he has a father-law that. can do this. Because it looks like it takes a very special& dedicated person to run this new sharpening system. Great video pa
I love grandpa, as I never knew my own grandpas. They were killed, both of them, in accidents before I was born. I love watching your channel and see how you love and respect your grandpa. ❤
That is impressive. I like the bit of tooth-set wisdom at the start, 23 degrees to get a smooth cut. Both of those rigs look like they'll make a great contribution to your workflow. Speaking of cutting large logs from the other week. If you haven't seen it already, Matt Cremona near Minneapolis has a very large saw head mill that he designed (and sells plans for). Not that you guys need another mill, but in this weeks RUclips video he cuts a very large, very clear Walnut log taken out of a yard in Wisconsin . It's impressive, the size of the log and the clarity of the grain in the cuts.
Yea, we sure would have missed out if we missed this video. I like how the setter momentarily displays the existing angle before pressing the new angle on the teeth.
You guys have such nice equipment. The skidder and mills and tractors, everything is so expensive but you have excellent equipment. Very, very impressive!
Great that GrandPa has a machine shop set up for this, it will aid in better wood products finishes and speed improvements... plus the girls will now have a fresh source of coffee on site instead of the thermoses they've relied on so much !
Great seeing Grandpa doing the sharpening of the blades. Slowly slowing the whole Family are becoming customer to being RUclips stars. Fantastic job Girls Great video as always best wishes from the Uk 🇬🇧
from a tool and die maker in your subscribers. in regards to the grinding wheel your using there is stone and 2 types of "diamond" one is CBN (not really diamond but Cubic Boron Nitride) and true diamond. the CBN is what you see the most but not always the best as it is a plating and once the sharp points wear off you start creating heat which will affect the heat treat of the tooth (the coolant helps prevent this a lot). CBN has its place but i prefer Resin Bond Diamond which is diamond held in a resin. this can be "dressed" much like a stone wheel so you always have fresh sharp diamond points. i bought my tooling from a place that would custom make any shape or size cutting tool i needed. their stuff was far superior to anything you can buy "off the shelf". they were also very reasonably priced call them up and tell them what size you need Continental Diamond Tool. but then again "if it ain't broke don't fix it" im willing to bet your grandfather knows that ol' saying.
High end equipment and you're exactly right about going deeper into the gullet to get the correct angle for cutting, I've operated saw sharpeners for what's called a flying cut off blades and that's the exact process that is used. Very impressed with your equipment and your process, also the young lady looks much like one of my nieces , only she is much more stable and grounded than my niece. God bless
hello an thanks for sharing these kool tools in operation ! looks to save time an money as well , hopefully helpful for Grandpa as well . peace an blessings craig
That sharping room you have now is awesome compared to the place you did them a while back. No wonder Grandpa likes spending time there. Loving the exhaust system. Please have him show us how he cleans the blades in a future video if possible. Thanks so much for continuing to show your very informative videos.

Thank God you have your Grandpa's wisdom. A rapidly lost art is wisdom and I hope people learn from it.

I have a quilt my grandmother long before I was born ,I’m 68, and you can read 100 lbs pillsbury flour
@@patbrewer4205 I just realized I spelled threw "through" on my post. What a moron I am.

Granpa looks over the family like his blades and knows what needs fixing and how to do it before any issues arise. A family treasure.

Grandpa is great ,everything he can do i hope Emerald learns about that Machine
Nicely done, Grandpa! I am sure you are saving a lot of money sharpening your own blades.
Apparently your Grandpa has put some time into learning these machines, I’m impressed that he took that on, his mind is sharp as those cutting points on the blades. I’m sure he is glad to be an important part of the family business. God bless him!

You all are so blessed! Everyone needs a Grandpa just like yours. I would love to learn from him. Peace!

I watched your dads video last night that was 10 months old on tips to sharpen a chainsaw. It was very informative and helpful.
Thanks for watching…Boss Man.
He’s the OG blade whisperer

AKA Grandpa. What a cool guy. His wisdom is priceless.

This machine sounds so much like barking dogs, I was absolutely dying the whole time guys.
Thanks for the chance to see the Tooth Setter and Sharpener in action.

Your grandpas knowledge just taught me why I get wavy boards coming off my sawmill. Thanks grandpa lol 👍
Finally! I've been waiting for this, Emerald 😃

Matt is using carbide blades now. He speaks very highly of them and they are not destroyed when he inevitably hits metal.
Love your Grandpa. He's a clone of my beloved grandpa. Enjoy him.
Experience, knowledge, and patience are what makes Granpa a valuable asset to your business. He reminds me of my Grandpa. Loved the video!
Hi Girls, one of needs to stick next Pops in the shop so you can learn everything that he has to teach you guys. Great post 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Thanks for the video..
*I REMEMBER DOING THIS* with a hand-held setting tool as a kid in my little workshop
Nice Job Grandpa! Thanks!
Perhaps you could do an episode explaining the geometry of the blades, for those of us who are unfamiliar with them.
Your RUclips channel is a great tool about logging and the. Saw mill
That man has a welt of knowledge, great to see how he does it and adapts to a new machine.
Love the ventilation…
You better get Grandpa to walk you through this a couple of times, he taking a 3 weeks vacation this summer.
My honeydoo list is too lone to abandon the homestead 😖
