    Great reaction! Geoff has his own channel where he does solo work. You should check out his cover of Ghostriders in the Sky, 16 Tons, and House of the Rising Sun. VoicePlay has a vast catalog of songs. I would recommend Hoist the Colours, Dragonborn Comes, Carry On My Wayward Son, and Oogie Boogie Song.

    Left to right: Geoff- bass. J.None- baritone. Eli-tenor. Cesar-baritone/tenor. Layne-beatboxing, baritone, violin.
    Eli (the bald guy, his name rhymes with belly) is the rock tenor in the group. he's performed many years as the lead singer of several rock bands, so he has that rocker vibe that he just can't hide, haha.

    Voiceplay doesn't really have one person taking the lead, it's a shared experience. By contrast Geoff has his own channel of low bass covers and even there he takes the lead the lead, but clones himself to create a backing group to sing all the parts of his arrnagements. VoicePlay are such a talented group and can cover just about any genre, even orchestral, as in Hall Of The Mountain King, with no words at all.

    as for Geoff and Tim, they have a very similar range. Geoff has a different tone to his voice than Tim though, one that often sounds deeper even if it isn't. Tim's voice is more rough and gravely in his lower range, while Geoff's is smoother with more resonance. that creates the illusion of Geoff's voice being much deeper, despite them singing the same notes. Tim and Geoff also use 2 different techniques for the super low stuff. Geoff mainly does subharmonics, while Tim mainly uses growl.
    and yes, they were in the same contest, the sing off, with their different groups. that is where Geoff heard Tim's growl notes for the first time, and Tim taught him how to do them.
    the scale you mentioned goes from high tenor (tenor 1) to tenor (tenor 2), to baritone, to bass. Tim and Geoff are both bass singers. but they are both able to go lower than many bass singers can, so they're often mentioned as being low bass, though they probably will dispute this themselves 😄😄

    • @Badger77722
      @Badger77722 Год назад

      If you catch Geoff's video on "What's my natural range?", he's very specific on saying that he doesn't consider himself a true bass, but "a baritone with a bass range". Considering how low he can go, I'd be pretty interesting in hearing someone Geoff considered "a true bass" - other than Tim, of course!

    • @huldradraco
      @huldradraco Год назад +2

      @@Badger77722 oh, there are a decent amount of "true" basses out there. I think the reason Geoff doesn't consider himself a "true" bass, is because he doesn't have his comfortable range with projection in the bass range. his bass voice is quite soft, he needs a mic to be heard properly across a room. while a "true" bass would be able to let their bass voice be heard through the sound of a choir, across a room. because that is where their best vocal range is. Geoff's power is in the baritone range, that's where he can be heard properly. how low or how high you can go isn't what gives you your true classification. it's where the best part of your voice is.

      @timvanderburg6039 Год назад

      While Tim and Geoff both were featured on the vocal competition show, "Voice Off", they appeared in different seasons, so they never "Officially" competed against each other. Tim has a 5-octave range; Geoff comes pretty darn close to matching that. While Geoff considers himself a "baritone with a good low end", I think both qualify as basso profundos.

    • @huldradraco
      @huldradraco Год назад +1

      @@timvanderburg6039 They were on the same season. It was PTX that was in a different season. It was at the Sing Off where Geoff heard Tim's growl for the first time, and Tim ended up teaching him how to do that 🙂

    Geoff arranged this. The bald guy is Eli (rhymes with jelly) rock tenor. Layne (aka VioLayne) is the beatboxer, baritone and violinist. Cesar is between Eli and Layne and the newest member of the group, gorgeous breathy voice (really shows off in I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt) and in We're Good, his tryout for membership). J None next to Geoff, was a member but got recruited into the US Navy for his vocal talents. He's nearly got 2 yrs of 5 done and had said he'd be back. Once he completed bootcamp, he came back and took the lead in Friends on the Other Side as well as a couple of minis/shorts. VP planned on doing this one in the fall but J's leave was cancelled and they put it of until January.

    Geoff Castellucci - bass.
    J None - Guest/baritone/former member.
    Eli (ellee) Jacobson - Tenor/Rock Tenor.
    Cesar De La Rosa - Baritone/Tenor.
    Layne Stein - Vocal percussion/baritone.
    Voiceplay and Home Free we're on the Sing Off together in 2014 season 4. They quickly became friends and still are. Home Free won 1st place. Voiceplay came in 5th place.
    They made a video that was supposed to show on the show but it never did. So both groups decided to put it on RUclips instead...
    Survivor Home Free vs Voiceplay Hillbillies vs Zombies.
    It is really awesome and fun.
    Voiceplay and Geoff have so many awesome videos on their channels to choose from. They don't stick with one genre. They've pretty much done them all.

Your other commenters here have already recommended most of my favorites, but I'll add my endorsement to the Hoist the Colours suggestion, and add We Don't Talk About Bruno because it's an incredibly complex and intricate arrangement that really shows off what the guys can do (and hilarious to boot.)

Since you liked their Viking themed "My Mother Told Me" you would also like "Hoist The Colors". For more rock covers, check out "Dream On", Carry On My Wayward Son" or "Warriors". I think you would love their cover of "Tennessee Whiskey". The bald tenor that you like is "Eli" (pronounced like it rhymes with jelly) he also does the lighting and technical effects also.

    Tim Foust and Geoff have nearly identical ranges. Geoff just has a bit more resonance and thickness to his voice. Tim more often uses growl notes to get below his chest range, whereas, Geoff uses subharmonics. Nevertheless, even in chest voice, both Geoff and Tim are much deeper than an average bass singer. Perfect pronunciation of both Geoff's first and last names, by the way.

    When you reacted to My Mother Told Me, Jj None (2nd from left) was a member of the group but was recruited by the US Navy in 2021 and sings with them in the Pacific Northwest. Cesar de la Rosa (second from right) joined later in 2021. They are still a member short and use featured artists to make up the fifth.
    The arrangements are usually done by either Geoff or the beatboxer, Layne Stein. They usually trade off from month to month. They do all of their production, lighting, sets, costumes themselves. No label, no manager, they have complete creative control and it shows.
    Suggestions:
    Hoist the Colours - from Pirates of the Caribbean 3, amazingly complex
    I Can't Make You Love Me - heartbreaking
    We Don't Talk About Bruno - funny and magical
    We'll get to Geoff's solo work later. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff.

    A good way to get a feel for Geoff's and Tim's voices is to watch the videos Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold Low Bass Singer Cover by Geoff Castellucci and Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust. It's the same song, from the Hobbit, and they're both done in period costume and setting. With both of them, hitting that low final note make things rumble. Home Free and VoicePlay were in the same season of The Sing-Off in 2013 and even though they had a song set up just in case, the two groups never went head to head during the show. They later filmed their parts of the song to be edited together for release, since they were in different parts of the US (or of the world?). For a fun time check out Zombies vs Hillbillies - Survivor (VoicePlay vs Home Free). Note: the woman singing with VoicePlay was with them only for the Sing-Off. I think her name was Honey. It was Emoni that joined VoicePlay on the live Sing-Off tour where they performed the number in regular clothes.

    As a metal fan, i was extremely skeptical this could be done acapella. However, this put VoicePlay on the top for me! Love it and love them! Yes, Tim has actually given bass singing guidance to both Geoff and Avi. However, both of the others have gone on and become their own thing. In many ways, I prefer Geoff's sound at the lowest level than Tim's now and that is saying something! He's clearer to my ears! I won't get into Layne after this performance! The violin I know technically makes it not acapella anymore. I don't care! It gave this song the metal edge it needed! And that was the most electric violin solo I've ever heard! VoicePlay left to right Geoff Castellucci, J None (guest here), Eli (Elee) Jacobson, Cesar De La Rosa, and Layne Stein. Geoff arranged this and Layne did the video editing.

    Geoff has a 5 octave range and his lowest note in a song so far is a B0 (B zero) in the theme to Halo featuring Scott Porter (an original founding member and main beat boxer). Geoff Castellucci (you said his name correctly), arranged the music for this one. J. None was the second guy singing in this song. He was a member of the group but joined the Navy and is featured in a few songs. Please do more reaction videos for Voice Play! Their talent is off the charts! Dream On by Aerosmith is crazy good!
