When I heard about the rode wireless go 2 coming out, I waited on my purchase. But based on the reviews, the 500 pro won out easily for my needs. So I bought it yesterday and thanks to your additional review. I have zero buyers remorse. I’m never further than 10/20 meters from the camera. I like the charging case. The need to use a computer to use central bums me out. So 500 pro wins
Fair enough, they are both great systems at the end of the day! I hope you enjoy it :)
50m is about 160 feet, where I live if you're that far from your camera, someone is running off with it, lol
@@OurFantasyLifeA good morning laugh Thanks 🙂
Short and very informative video. Thanks
Thank you for this content. I have some questions and you answered.
Fantastic review and production, Chris! Thank you for a very high quality and highly valuable post!
Thank you, we appreciate the info. We have for now the Blink 500 pro but will consider buying Rode for an extra set or for the road.
Thanks. It's a great informative video.
short and to the point - thank you. hope you're going to check out the new Saramonic Blink 900 B2 and DJI Mic this year. The DJI screen orientation looks like a winner for selfies...
Thank you for your video, very informative. Does the Rode record to the camera (goprp in mycase) and on itself simultaneously (using a water proof case for gopro I can't attach the reciever).
Great presentation
Thanks !
mate!!, That's honest I really appreciate that
How would these work in a live sound setting such as a wedding ceremony?
Thank you, Chris! But I think Blink 500 Pro still suits my needs and lav mics + charging case is a huge thing over Rode. And If I am not hearing wrong Saramonic sounds a lot better than Rode.
preach
The Saramonic sounds VASTLY better than the Rode on my headphones.
Love your videos. I am still confused about which one to choose. 🤔
Thank you. I think the rode is the one to go for. At least for now.
Thanks Chris, great comparison. Not sure how often I would be filming someone 300 metres away unless I had a super long lens! Interesting the audio quality of the built in Blink mic was better but recording on the transmitter can be a lifesaver. Can you use a Rode Smart/Lav with the Rode or is it a TRS lav? Guess you will be selling the Blink then.
I don't believe it works with the smart lav... I think I bought one for my original wireless go and it wouldn't work. Yeah I think the blink 500 pro will be up for sale soon.
Smart lav won't work, but i think there is the option for an adapter cable that basically makes it a trs lav (check if the Rode SC-3 adapter is the right one for your needs). I know its a year late, but maybe helps someone who reads this.
How about the line in sounds from DJ?
Great and informative video. Thanks.
What I miss here is real-world tests:
-range in non-controlled environments (football field tests are useless IMHO)
-dropouts in WiFi congested environments
-latency
-sound quality measurements
-gain structure check
I own the Saramonic set and put it on the test bench.
It fails in all the above categories:
-range is terrible in non-controlled environments
-dropouts even within 6 meters
-latency is humongous : 25 ms plus (I was told RWP2 has 7 ms)
-frequency range is not linear and drops off above 15 KHz
-an awe full lot of harmonic distortion above 4 KHz (that’s why it sounds ‘clearer/shaper’)
-very inaccurate gain settings with not enough range and output
-no level meters
-no firmware updates
-bad customer support
So my set is for sale. ;-)
What are your RWG2 experiences regarding latency and real-world range now that you have owned the set for a few Months?
Thanks and have a great day.
Great video! A bit confusing because your enthusiasm and disappointment go back and forth, but that also means it's more likely to be an unbiased review ;p My notes for others that are not convinced of one or the other at the end. Feel free to add something, I'm a n00b at this
-Saramonic wins sound
-Saramonic has lavaliers
-Saramonic has charging case
-Rode wins range easily (300m vs 50m)
-More dropouts with the Rode?
-Rode can record on device as backup
-Rode has better menu
-Rode has a good app
Totally unbiased, and I really like both to be honest but the Rode does perform better in pretty much every way that matters. More dropouts on the saramonic. If I had to pick which to buy again I would go with the rode.
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Thanks for the response! Now deciding between the Rode and the Hollyland Lark 150 that are at a similar price point. Any thoughts on that?
I do have the lark 150 and will be doing a comparison in the next couple of weeks. Not actually used it yet so can't recommend one or the other
300m is about the length of three football fields (328 yards). I cannot think of a single situation where I'd need that much range on a wearable mic...at that point I'd just outfit the talent with a Zoom or something.
Chris could you confirm one thing: can you use saramonic blink 500 pro receiver and transmitter powering them with powerbank? I have info that it doesn't work. I tested rode wireless go ii and it can but I didn't have saramonic. Thanks for Reply
You can based on other reviews Ive seen
i would get the rode wireless go 2 but i am worried about line of sight. i have used the k&f concept m8 system before and line of sight was never an issue. even when having the transmitter in the talents pocket no drop outs. thx for the review.
Why worry about line of sight when the rode has internal recording as back up.
Saramonic states their range is not 100 meters but 100 FEET, which is 30 meters. The Rode however claims to have a range of 200 meters within line of sight.
328 feet, not 100 feet
Blink benefits are nice, but the backup feature of Rode is crucial for me.
Thanks for this video Chris. Can you shed more light on the battery performance of Rode as compared to Saramonic.
From past experience I'd say you get about 4 hours on the saramonic and 5-6 on the rode, hope that helps!
Does anyone know if I can use either of this units with a P.A. JBL Eon One Compact to be exact?
what an informative video! cheerssss... thx!
Interesting to see the two compared. I have the old Rode and was curious whether upgrading might be worthwhile. But then I saw a direct sound comparison of the built-in mics on the old and new (II), and it was clear to me that the II sounded less nice (a bit more harsh, with a bit less bottom end). Have you directly compared the two Rodes sound-wise? (My application would include a bit acoustic guitar, so more-or-less full-range sound is important - or at least sound without castrated bass or hyped treble.) As for the Saramonic, it definitely sounds better than the Rode II - fuller, more realistic, less nasal(?). For me, sound is the most important aspect for a microphone (duh). Maybe I‘ll just wait for Saramonic to fight back with a new generation of their device.
What is latency of the Saramonic Pro?
You didn't talk about the blink 500 Pro HM mic. That is why its a little bigger than the rode. The blink 500 can be converted into a hand held mic.
what about the lav?
How can I sink to my camera?
Want to use your link on rode 2?
if it had the sony interface shoe i would buy it today
You say if the line of sight is broken there are problems with Saramonic's reception even under 50 m. How bad is it? I mean my needs are mainly studio setup under 10 m. If the transmitter is in the pocket under the desk will that cause problems?
Honestly I think you would have issues. You'd be much better off with the rode if you want it in your pocket.
THank you! :) That charging case almost had me :D
Are you sure that the Go 2 records internally at 32 bit float? From what I have read it records at 24bit and can export at 32bit. Not the same dynamic range.
Direct quote from their website 😊. WAV 32-bit float: This exports an upscaled 32-bit float format file, great for compatibility with similar files in a DAW environment. It also offers possibilities for feature expansion via future firmware updates.
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Weird that they are not more clear about the fact that it's not actually recording in 32 bit.
Nov 2022, have the Rode go 2 just bought Saramonic Blink 500 B2 pro for £111.30 and Saramonic blink 500 b2 for £51.61 brand new from amazon
So Røde can also record two mics to two separate tracks of stereo file on camera?
Yup
But Rødes need to be charged separately i.e I need three USB ports if I want to charge them all at the same time?
That's right yes
You don't necessarily need 3 usb ports. I found a cable on Amazon with 3 usb-c heads (only one for data). The Amazon part number is B08GY7FBHZ, in case YT strips out the link. It wasn't easy to find, so I bought two! (cable=www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GY7FBHZ/)
That is super cool!
🐂💩 and 2 x Chris. What more could need? Cracking comparison. 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate
Go for saramonic
If the Saramonic sounds better then why switch to Rode?
Sound is better up to 200-300 meters but Saramonic only 100 meters claim.
you are talking about switch but you dont say which to which...
Can Saramonic record without any external devices?
Rode lacks a headphone jack on the receiver which is a deal breaker for me.
I like rode wireless go...
I think sermonic is better then rode go ii
Saramonic Blink 900 just Killed the Rode....
You must be paid by rode for choosing mic which definitely sounds worse.
I'm not paid by rode, I just prefer reliability over sound quality. Better to have some sound that sounds alright than no sound which might of been great...
Same voice, saramonic is good
Paid video?
Nope bought the rode wireless go 2 with my own money because I was curious.
I had similiar feeling for few moments. Especially when there was a moment about sound quality (I'm listening on high grade Klipsch RP monitors with Denon X6700H).
You cannot connect Blink 500 Pro to a smartphone. You need a whole separate receiver for that...
