    Toyota called Subaru to bring back the 86
    Toyota called BMW to bring back the Supra
    Toyota must call Lotus to bring back the MR2

    • @domantas7054
      @domantas7054 5 лет назад +74

      Actually BMW called Toyota. Bmw had the idea to make a sports car together. And after a few good years the Mk5 supra and z4 were born.

    • @STECKEDDECK
      @STECKEDDECK 5 лет назад +13

      As an MR2 driver, i totally agree. But i prefer the SW20 Turbo over the W3... The W3 needed the 192hp enginge of the Lotus Elise and it would be so much more enjoyable

    • @vizualmrs
      @vizualmrs 5 лет назад +15

      Actually Toyota and Lotus already collaborated to make the Mark 3 MR2 . FYI.
      Lotus also borrowed the 2zz turbo Toyota engine and Toyota borrow the Lotus design specs and dimension. Which is why the Mk3 MR2 looks more like a euro Lotus / Porsche

    I love my 17 86 special edition. It definitely handles like a dream. Just changed out the stick Prius tires and it sticks like crazy around corners. I love taking it to palos verdes (a hill like residential area here in LA with lots of curves and turns) and taking it to it’s limits.

    • @store42b
      @store42b 5 лет назад +3

      Oh dear another one who hasn't got a clue. The reason for the prius tires is to make the back end able to drift easier, thats's part of the fun going up or down hill roads, to make it drift, it's a drivers car, sadly you are not a driver. Don't be mad, just keeping it real.

    • @m5387

      store42b Some people like grip driving more than drifting, the prius tires are shit for that purpose

    • @mattevans1643
      @mattevans1643 5 лет назад +2

      @@store42b it shouldn't need shit tires to drift. That's not what they were for, they were cost cutting. The prius tire are cheap, and that's why they were put there. That's the equivalent of going to a junk yard and grabbing a set of used tires, and they did that from the factory. If that's your idea of fun, something is wrong with you.

    • @rks5457
      @rks5457 5 лет назад

      @@store42b in LA they prefer grip bc there are so many fuckin cars coming at you in these canyons you would die/kill if you tried to drift downhill on a road that isn't closed. Just look at the thousands of southern California "twisty" canyon run videos on RUclips.

    I had wanted one of these since the day they announced them. One day at work we went out to lunch and my boss wanted to be dropped off at the local Subaru dealer to pick up his Outback. They had their very first BRZ sitting outside the garage; it had just been delivered and everyone took a turn sitting in it.
    About a year later my wife and I are on a freeway and I see a GT86 drive past us. I mention that I'd really like to have one. She asked me how much they cost, I told her, and she replied, "OVER MY DEAD BODY!"
    Sadly, she died in her sleep about 2 years later. I finally had permission to buy one.

    Brought the wife and kids across France in my GT86, no problems fitting everyone in the car. The trick for fitting everything in the boot was to use vacuum bags (with a hand pump). I was able to get more in the GT86 boot with vacuum bags than I could in my old Audi A4 (which has a fairly large boot) with suitcases.

    I know this car get's a lot of hate on the internet, but I don't care. I can't help but enjoy the sheer driver-focused feel. It's so rare these days to find that unless you can get a hold of a good condition S2000, MR-2, or even the Miata. And even just a few modifications really fix the issues people complain about (torque dip and prius tires).

      Scion was a part of Toyota.

    • @mattevans1643
      @mattevans1643 5 лет назад +2

      Scion is Toyota. They released the FRS under the Scion Badge, because they didn't want a sports car in the Toyota Lineup. The only reason it got rebadged as a Toyota was because Scion was a waste of money, and the FRS was their only car that was selling. So they got rid of Scion but kept the FRS because it was selling. Rebadged it, and named it the 86, as a homage to their history. Which is also why they brought back the Supra, because historically the, AE-86, MR2, And Supra were their best performing cars. The AE-86 and MR2 were just Corollas, but they were both so much more than what they are now. That's what people want. And that's why toyota is bringing them back. But toyota doesn't know how to build a sports car, so once again they are enlisting the help of other companies to do it for them. All of the best Toyotas have never been fully built by toyota. You can thank Yamaha, Suburu, and BMW for that.

    I took a test drive in a Toyota TRD86 with a 2.0 liter with NO Turbo and just a standard manual transmission. My next alternative was the WRX - STI which also only comes with a manual transmission as well. I do not like a manual tranny especially in commute traffic down here is San Diego Ca. At the very least Subaru should offer the 2.5 turbo in the BRZ which does come with the automatic transmission and paddle shifters, I believe.
    I don't get having to have a stick shift just because it is a more rally powered style. Paddle shifting has been around for decades so why not use that technology to offer a great driving experience for those of us who hate manual transmission without turning your car into a gutless 2 liter piece of crap. Unless you offer a turbo, as in the STI 2.5 Ltr turbo series, the three cars based on that platform. BRZ and WRX and the Toyota 86 are all fairly gutless. I want a car that has some punch without have to pay for a rally car. Wake up Subaru and Toyota !!!

    • @klauszwegert6382
      @klauszwegert6382 5 лет назад

      The turbo kit itself is really cheap but i wouldnt recommend going only for the kit itself. Rebuild the engine and get better brakes, suspension and clutch. 400HP cost round about 28k € if a company does it. The stock gearbox and clutch can take round about 500NM but a lot of tuners reccommend upgrading it. So in the end you have a car that costs nearly 60k in total. Hate to say it but i probably sell my GT86.

    • @KiraOniiChan
      @KiraOniiChan 5 лет назад

      @@klauszwegert6382 Oh I see, I'm just starting to learn about cars now and I honestly just wanted a little more power, if I'm not racing or anything besides just daily driving it, would all that upgrading be necessary?

    • @klauszwegert6382
      @klauszwegert6382 5 лет назад

      @@KiraOniiChan The thing is the company who offers the kit in my country did a lot of testing on track and in daily driving situations. And the initial Turbo Kit grants you "safe" 280 HP which are relatively safe to handle for the stock engine. Anything above that requires some better brakes and engine rebuild. The engine rebuild consist of new Pistons, connecting Rods, an improved Oil system for the engine (dont know whats that is specific, probably some special stuff from them), stronger Connecting rod bearings, stronger main bearings, new head gasket, new fuel injectors, new oil filter. The other part of the price comes from new Brakes and a new suspension. Its a shame that the GT doesnt got Brembo brakes from the get go. The 280HP/300HP (in Track mode) Kit requires no engine rebuild, tho they recommend a better Oil cooler. clutch and a new exhaust. So basicly a bit HP is relatively cheap, everything else gets a bit expensive. Little side info. The company did tests with the engine and managed to get 600HP out of it with some modifikations. So there sure is a long way to go up but its really expensive, like i said

    My biggest turnoffs are the fact there isn’t a hatchback option, aswell as the engine. I feel like giving it a boxer engine makes alot of people nervous about modifying it. I’m not saying Boxer’s are bad engines, they are just really tricky. I wish they would’ve put in the 4 cylinder from the Corolla with some upgrades. With the hatchback complaint, there is a concept for a hatchback version, but it looks more like a baby wagon and it looks pretty ugly.

    It's plenty fast enough for fun, but it's no straight line drag car!!
    It's a real gem to drive and own though... well worth the sacrifice of a small boot and miniature back seats.
