Scion is Toyota. They released the FRS under the Scion Badge, because they didn't want a sports car in the Toyota Lineup. The only reason it got rebadged as a Toyota was because Scion was a waste of money, and the FRS was their only car that was selling. So they got rid of Scion but kept the FRS because it was selling. I took a test drive in a Toyota TRD86 with a 2.0 liter with NO Turbo and just a standard manual transmission. My next alternative was the WRX - STI which also only comes with a manual transmission as well. I do not like a manual tranny especially in commute traffic down here is San Diego Ca. At the very least Subaru should offer the 2.5 turbo in the BRZ which does come with the automatic transmission and paddle shifters, I believe. I don't get having to have a stick shift just because it is a more rally powered style. Paddle shifting has been around for decades so why not use that technology to offer a great driving experience for those of us who hate manual transmission without turning your car into a gutless 2 liter piece of crap. Unless you offer a turbo, as in the STI 2.5 Ltr turbo series, the three cars based on that platform. BRZ and WRX and the Toyota 86 are all fairly gutless. I want a car that has some punch without have to pay for a rally car. Wake up Subaru and Toyota !!!
The turbo kit itself is really cheap but i wouldnt recommend going only for the kit itself. Rebuild the engine and get better brakes, suspension and clutch. 400HP cost round about 28k € if a company does it. The stock gearbox and clutch can take round about 500NM but a lot of tuners reccommend upgrading it. So in the end you have a car that costs nearly 60k in total. @@KiraOniiChan The thing is the company who offers the kit in my country did a lot of testing on track and in daily driving situations. And the initial Turbo Kit grants you "safe" 280 HP which are relatively safe to handle for the stock engine. Anything above that requires some better brakes and engine rebuild. The engine rebuild consist of new Pistons, connecting Rods, an improved Oil system for the engine (dont know whats that is specific, probably some special stuff from them), stronger Connecting rod bearings, stronger main bearings, new head gasket, new fuel injectors, new oil filter. The other part of the price comes from new Brakes and a new suspension. Its a shame that the GT doesnt got Brembo brakes from the get go. The 280HP/300HP (in Track mode) Kit requires no engine rebuild, tho they recommend a better Oil cooler. clutch and a new exhaust. So basicly a bit HP is relatively cheap, everything else gets a bit expensive. Little side info. The company did tests with the engine and managed to get 600HP out of it with some modifikations. The Subaru BRZ is my favorite car but its basically the same and im scared that im not going to be able to have one because im 15 and you wont be able to have a car that isnt using electricity in 3 years, thx
You should be ok to get one mate i think it's more for now new petrol cars made after that date? Not older cars that already use petrol
The Toyota GT86's predecessor was the AE86. (You know in which anime the AE86 shows up)
It's a GREAT car... but let's get 1 thing right... it does _not_ have "grunt".
It's plenty fast enough for fun, but it's no straight line drag car!!
It's a real gem to drive and own though... well worth the sacrifice of a small boot and miniature back seats.
Takumi likes this
Hell yeah my 2016 scion frs is all stock and it's perfect fun to drive and not adding any boost to it
