I have an '87 RG 550 with the original Edge and after all these years there is absolutely no wear on the knife edges and it stays in tune no matter what. They must have used Samarai swordsmiths to make em back then ☺. One tip: lube the knife edge contact points with chapstick. It doesn't attract dirt and it works.
I have a 90's RG550 with an Edge licensed FR that I'm looking into replacing as well. The only reason I haven't already done it is I didn't know if I could get a drop in replacement. I'm also looking at a Seymour Duncan Pegasus Sentient set of pickups to drop in it too. I think perhaps it's time.
I've heard some people say that the Ibanez Edge bridges are arguably better than the FR bridges. I have no experience with them, so I can't say. I know you can get FU Tone parts for the Edge, so that might be worth checking out. The only thing on mine that I didn't replace was the bridge posts. The bushings for the FR were slightly larger than the Ibanez bushings, so those would have required drilling out the post holes.
Floyd 1000 is awesome. Tuning them sucks but they hold great no noise. The original german model is something I never played I'm sure its great, but they cost a fortune compared to others.

I hear the original Edge tremolos were awesome. Wish mine had come with one...

You did great job buddy !
Thanks! Definitely outside of my comfort zone as I've never taken a drill to one of my guitars before, but it turned out alright. 😁
Sounds like you did a great job to me.
Thanks! I got nervous drilling all the holes in the new neck. Luckily it didn't turn out too bad.
