New Guitar Day! 2008 Gibson SG Classic!
I love my Vanguard. This is my first quality guitar with passive pickups and it screams. It is louder than both my Schecter and BC Rich. This guitar is great for 80s thrash. I love mine. I wish the inlays were a little different but I love it.
Definitely surprised by the drastic difference in the pickups. Obviously modern vs. vintage voiced. Those thrash factors just cut.
Yeah, I was absolutely surprised by how much difference there was. I was very impressed with the Thrash Factors.
The pickups are the major difference between the Mustaine Vs and the normal ones, which usually come with 7-8k output pickups. My Original V has BB2 and BB3 pickups in the neck and bridge respectively and they sound like the one you used here for comparison. For anyone who already has a V, my advice is to just keep the old pickups, put in new ones, and rock on. No sense in spending 3 grand on another guitar.
Unless you're just a ridiculous level guitar collector like me... 😁
Absolutely great review! You earned a new sub my friend!
Much appreciated! I just try to have fun and hopefully that comes through. 😁
Nice...definitely big difference in tones between both guitars pickups...Dave's midrange sings
I'll be honest, I was definitely expecting a difference in tone, but I was surprised by how much difference there was.
GREAT review!! Two very cool axes.🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! I definitely had some fun with this one!
Another home run, brother!
Much appreciated, sir!
I just got the 2023 white plain top 60's natural back and man oh man is it AWESOME! I got the OG case with the baby pic and all the goodies! I traded my 2016 Gibson Lespaul standard T trans amber AAA for it. Didn't even have the original case it was a SKB made in Canada hard plastic and was SUPER sticker bombed! I was floored when I drove away with that Gibson hardshell in my van!
That's awesome! A good friend of mine got a 50's spec white Standard. I'm REALLY hoping to borrow it for a demo soon. He loves his!
I just installed some on my PRS 594, and I felt like the Allen wrench managed to get the thread of the plunger tight enough… but now I’m worrying maybe it didn’t! Thanks for the heads up man. Sorry to hear that happened to your guitar
Hopefully yours is fine. Since posting this video, I've heard from people who've had no issues at all, but I've heard from just as many who had the same problem, but noticed it before theirs completely failed. I would just say to keep a CLOSE eye on it, and never take both hands off of your guitar.
@@mikelovesguitars402 thanks man, after watching my your video I tightened it even more and screwed in the little fastener screw after watching a tutorial online. Hopefully that solves it 🤞
@@scaredypicker hopefully!
The first riff sounded a lot like Triumph, Never Say Never
I'll have to look that song up. I'm aware of Triumph, but I couldn't tell you the name of any of their songs if my life depended on it.
I think an eq pedal with a volume slider would be a better investment and you have the option of tone shaping. Good ones can be found for a reasonable price.
An EQ pedal is certainly an option. This is a more affordable option if you don't need additional tone shaping. I've personally never had a need for an EQ pedal. 🤷♂
Next time slap an overdrive or boost upfront, that's the key with Crate amps.
The audio demo starting at 5:10 has an OD in front.
I have owned the Blue Voodoo 120 not the 120H since the early 90's. It sounds amazing and I played everything from Clapton to thrash metal. I still have it right now sitting in my living room.
Chainsaw sound ? WTF ? Dude Were not playing Jackyl
I guess it's safe to assume that you're not familiar of all the modern Boss MT2 inspired pedals and plugins specifically to get that sound for "modern metal" tones? Glenn Fricker did a whole video about using a plugin for that sound in the same way that I used it in this video.
🤘🤘🤘
Maybe as a matter of test it would be better to stick with less intrusive guitars. I honestly can’t hear much of th bass.
That's why there's a section with isolated bass tracks in the video. 👍
@@mikelovesguitars402 Sorry. My bad.I skipped straight to the end to check the final result. Now it makes sense.
@@bass_journey no worries at all
I have a trident with the hollywood mod! Its really awesome! I love it! Pushed with a maxon 808 it's really good and can be pushed into the metal territory!
Awesome. I love hearing all the positive experiences people have with these!
Low key you deserve more views this was the best review I’ve seen of this guitar
Much appreciated! I'm an old man who stinks at social media and marketing, so I'm still struggling to get my videos in front of people. Some of my videos do pretty well with views. Others, not so much. 🤷♂
The after to me sounds growlier, more sustain, cleaner in that you can hear the tones better. Maybe not a huge difference, but there's definitely a difference to my ears 🤷🏻
Glad you can hear a difference. In all fairness, my monitors aren't the best at translating bass.
Totally agree on the LTD sounding better than the Schecter. The Schecter sounded a bit muddy whereas the LTD had a crispness to the tone that gave the riffs more punch IMO. Great vid as always dude!
Much appreciated, sir! This guitar was SO nice...
I used one as a teen in a hardcore punk band and it sounded great!!!
Did you have the matching cab or something else? Just curious.
@@mikelovesguitars402 I had a crate cab loaded with Celestions that I got separately
i play my brendon smalls ghost horse sitting down all the time and find it is extremely comfortable lol explorers are perfect sitting down
Agreed, I have recently bought an explorer and find it the most comfortable of my 3 different guitar styles to play sitting down and balancing on my leg
I think they're great playing in a "classical" stance. Not as comfortable for me any other way sitting down, but everyone is different.
In my experience and to my ears, 7 strings have a distinctive and super characteristic high-midrange that screams "djent djent djent". It's not a Honky/nosey midrange, I find it actually makes for a nicely defined sound, they sit in a mix differently than a baritone would. Love the feel of a baritone but there's something about the sound of a 7 string that I personally gravitate towards.
Hey, that's the great thing about having options. We can all get what we want. My ears prefer the baritone, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with preferring the 7.
Great mix. What drums are you using? Sounding great!! Sub'd
Thanks! I use Addictive Drums 2. Not a hugely popular plugin, but I've been using AD for YEARS so I just know it really well.
Another hit! That 800 is fire. Can't wait for your videos in the new facility💙
The move begins tomorrow. Gonna get everything setup as quickly as I can so I can start working on the video with the V. 😁
Man, the demos sound great with that guitar. The tune you wrote shows it off spectacularly.
It just kind of came out the first time I picked up the guitar, so I decided to use it for the video. 😁
I forgot to comment on that myself, the track is killer.
@@shelbyavant5081 much appreciated!
Crate was the amps back in the 80s
Had the head and matching cab. Picked them up real cheap around 2008. Didn't fully know how to dial it in back then. Sold them in 2018.
Luckily they're still really cheap when you can find them 😁
They are super dependable. I like them .
They're absolute tanks
I just finished fixing one. It was pretty clean and well made inside. The transformers are massive. The only issue I had was the power switch had gone bad but after swapping it out it was good as new!
@@thriftsnriffs291 good to know, cheers 🥂
Sounds cleaner, clearer, less muddied tone after the upgrades. Ive been playing a Squier P Bass since 2005. Thats the only difference i can hear
My bud had the crate g40 c . The chorus was sweet for us teenagers. I had the g60xl😅
Back then you just DIDN'T play clean without a chorus effect. 😁
Great unit
Singlecoil in highgain amp = 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
Funny story... That Strat has a Seymour Duncan Hotrail mini humbucker. No single coils used in this video... 🤣
Why? There´s nothing wrong with single coils in a high gain amp dude! It´s just a matter of taste!

Poor little Dom-troll, he's deaf AND blind😭
I just picked up a 90's era production model of one these badboys for $400 Australian which is approx $300, maybe a bit less. Damn I love this thing. I also have a Mesa Dual Rec Multiwatt and a Marshall JVM, however I would have absolutely no problem gigging this to save the risk of busting one of those. I love this thing and worth every cent. Great demo mate! Some really great tones you got out of this thing.
These things are insanely cheap for how good they can sound.
I use D'Addario universal strap lock currently, so far so good
I've never seen those before. I'll have to check them out.
@@mikelovesguitars402 ruclips.net/video/7EGHPQC9OZI/видео.htmlsi=AiwDODXNinT703na They look very stylish to me haha. Thank you for sharing the incident and thank you for the guitar-related content, sir!
@@mikelovesguitars402 these have horse shoe as well so they are pretty secured
And don't undervalue the geniune notion of bald being beautiful, my bro! Nice riffs, nice review. I have one these and was instantly impressed with it, even more than any of my previous variety of fantastic effects pedals. Peace!
Hahaha! Well, bald and beautiful is one thing. Bald, chubby, and old is a whole different thing. lol And yeah, I think the these are good options for the price.
Pretty scooped tone
Not from an EQ standpoint. Mids are actually pushed a little on the EQ.
@@mikelovesguitars402 i’m talking about the tone stack.
If this doesn’t work out you can fall back on that collection of Marshall heads you got going there
Marshall, Mesa, Fender, EVH... I dabble in a little bit of everything. 😁
I liked this better than the Royal Atlantic
I've never actually played a Royal Atlantic. Wouldn't mind checking one out one of these days...
@@mikelovesguitars402 Benefit of living 30 min from Sweetwater! Be cool to sit the Royal Atlantic next to a newer TC series and see how they compare. Thanks again and awesome uploads!
The Atlantic is fantastic. Will never sell mine.
@@Yowie722 I'll have to try and get my hands on an Atlantic one of these days
What Tubes do you have in it? I happen to have one. Always wanted one when they first came out. I also started out using crate. I like it. Not as good as my JCM2000 DSL50, but sometimes I feel it comes pretty close. I got JJ 5881's in the power section, a Sovtek 12AX7WC in the first gain stage and Sovtek 12AX7WA in the rest of the pre-amp section. I also feel the wrong tubes can make this amp sound pretty bad. JJ ECC83s don't sound good in this amp for example, in my opinion.
It's got GT 6L6 tubes in the power section, never even looked to see it's running for preamp tubes.
I had an opportunity to try one about a year ago, and while it certainly wasn’t the worst amp I’ve played through, I didn’t care for it either. With a boost and maybe an eq in the loop I could get it where i want.
That's fair. That's why it's good that we have so many choices for amps.
You have to condider this: *) Guitar forums most active posters are retired people, so they are probably fairly old. These people think anything beyond light breakup is garbage. Like most people, they generally have a secret agenda to convince you of their opinion, so they go to extremes to trash talk things that challenge their opinion. My favorite amp for a while was the Peavey Triumph and Rockmaster, and everyone trash talked the amp because Peavey has to suck. But, when I played, everyone wanted to know how I got that sound.
I completely understand. My favorite amp is my JCM900. If I listened to the internet, I would think that there's no way it could ever sound good. But for YEARS people have been complimenting me on my live tone without realizing it was a 900. 😁
I am a marshall user for over 40 yrs, primarily non master models. I could easily dial this in to use for the 70's 80's hard rock I play
You would probably need to keep the gain around 1 for 70s and 80s hard rock, but it's 100% doable.
Yup, I remember in high school that these were called Blue Dudu
~ALL Of The; ON -LINE // RUMOR -HATE, ..Was Started / Initiated By; Competition. ..( "Just So YOU Know, . . Of Course!" )
Sounds fine to me
I think so too
Crates are great amps. People are too picky, and don't practice enough. The reason you sound like garbage isn't your gear, it is your playing. You can get a good sound out of almost anything if you try. I have a Crate GFX-1200H, Solid State amp with DSP, and it works fine. Cork sniffers are douches or shills for guitar equipment companies that need to sell you the latest and greatest gear. I have enough gear to last me three lifetimes. I need to practice, practice, practice. Nothing wrong with a little tone chasing, that helps you learn how to use your gear. But still it is practice that makes the difference in your sound, not a pick, strings, pickups, tonewoods, amps, speakers, pedals. If your playing sucks it doesn't matter what gear you are playing out of.
I've been playing for almost 35 years and I still suck. That reminds me, I need to go practice...
What’s with the 300 jump cut edits… holy a.d.d. Visualization
Just trying to keep things visually interesting. 😁
It sounds like a rockman to me. For better or worse. The rockman drove alot of hits in the 80's. It really just sounds like it has to much 1K frequency. Push a lower mid frequency like 250 and it would probably sound pretty good.
Anyone that has a Crate tube they dont like feel free to send it to me
