I have a Q7 with the same infotainment system and have no issues operating it plus the voice control is excellent and operates most of the key functions. I also have no issue with the safety systems or the hill hold. The only area where I do agree is selecting reverse which can be tricky. An interesting if ultimately pointless test, nobody in the market for a new luxury car will be comparing it to a 90’s or 00’s car. If I had 10k to spend on my luxury car that BM would be seriously tempting but how long before you spend the same again maintaining it?
True that people in the market for this won't be looking at the older cars, but they might note the things Audi is doing better/worse relative to the other brands. As a Lexus driver, both the interior and the engine (power/efficiency) in this thing seem comical to me.
But even if the BMW does break.. you can sit and watch the "Theatre" in your driveway - The doors will be nailed closed, the lights will be out, but its still a "theatre". I wonder for how long an inanimate theatre will remain rewarding?
Touch screen EVERYTHING is STUPID!! It means you have to take your eyes of the road whenever you want to change something!! Climate control and basic audio control should always be buttons or knobs as you can operate them on feel, without taking your eyes of the road! It all looks cool, but it's not really practical! Soon we'll end up having to go thru submenus to operate the indicators 😂
In a luxury care superchargers make more sense to me, much smoother power delivery. And the idea just sounds more luxurious to me. Economy cars come with turbo chargers I don't think I see any going with superchargers. Superchargers sound more exclusive to me.
I think the current A6 looks far more imposing from the front than this generation of A8 even in cooking 40tdi spec especially as an s line. I know the Germans tend to be generic ish in style but with bmw and benz the bigger and higher end you go the more presence the cars seem to have. This has missed the mark for me style wise. Same goes for the inside of the thing. Ive had to shuffle one around same as this a 55tfsi for a director at work. Lucky guy had it as a courtesy while he waited for his rsq8. Its typical audi fare solid as a rock but does not wow in anyway like the new s class. Too many parts the same as my own humdrum b9 A4 which is rental/company car fodder really. Case in point being the alcantara door inserts, while nice in isolation to a passenger if you come from a far lesser car in their range and see the same thing it is a letdown in something this costly. Audi interiors generally do the business sub 50k, they really cant be rivalled or faulted for quality but up in this elite territory it has to have something a bit more than nice damping and thunks.
A really great mini series, I'd absolutely love a similar type of series for other classes of car, maybe small sports car, premium estate and all round performance car are topics I'd love to see covered.
MPG on modern cars suck due to the fact fueling is increased to get emissions down. My 1997 Saab 9000 Aero 2.3T tuned to 360bhp, averages between 38 and 40.5mpg every week over 700 miles weekly. With HUGE reserves of power on tap that can dispatch most things with just 1200kg to pull along.
It's hilarious how much Jay is an Audi Hater. He grasps some of the pointless things to complain, like the leather in the steering wheel. I don't know if the spec of this car is the worst Audi could find. But I've got in S-Class, 7-Series and A8, and the Audi and Mercedes leather quality is miles above the BMW.
Liked the review on these 3, interesting fuel comparison of the new Audi to the older Mercedes. I hate the way that manufacturers think because we use tablets we want to control everything via a touch screen menu. BMW started this with in the 5 series, a knob to drill down menus to get to basic settings taking your eyes off the road for too long, give me a switch! Personally the Audi looks like the grill, came off a BBQ, and a cheap one at that and the Mercedes gives a lot for a low price. But if I was out there buying something that big it would be a current Jaguar XJ in the 3 to 4 year old range in a good spec, now I could live in that car.......
Audi has always made quality interiors from other brands. While Mercedes and BMW are paying more attention to the appearance, Audi has always chosen better quality materials and kept the workmanship in the top class.
I feel like he's focusing on how the A8 is not sporty enough and drives it on back roads talking about the driving dynamics it might not have but I feel that is not the purpose of an A8. Should talk about other features of the car as well
For me I do not like the styling of the Audi and its a lot of money, the BMW technically superb, I could not live with the Bangle design, so is it the Mercedes? yes but not that vintage, I would look to spend 10-15k on a newer model.
Why do you think raising and lowering the car is so important? I have that feature on my Lexus LS460 and other than checking that it works I don't think I have ever used it. What do you feel I am missing? Thanks!
The thing is Audi knows the A8 is worth half its RRP after 12 months, not far off that at 6 months. The difference between a late new A6 or A8 is minimal.
The A8's new styling isn't convincing to me, its quite harsh in comparison to the previous generation and i cant see myself going for the S8 when it comes out based on the looks and garish exterior trim, but we will see. The S will be a step up from what you have driven, I thought there was very little between an A8 and an S8 however there is a huge difference without mentioning the engine. As for raising the car its not really essential i have never used it, its only worth changing from comfort mode to say dynamic as it will float more if on the highest setting, it goes up about 20/30mm if that, apart from that the car isn't exactly low so it will never be used.
Great video J as always but the styling is SO anodyne. Great car blah blah but a wet blanket in the looks department. So.....when are you going to test the Lexus LS500? :)
Every time is see that Intro with the MB 190 2.3 16V , I get Happy, such a Unique Car. Just had a 3 Hour Ride in my Daimler Super V8 00, I wouldn't trade it for any other Saloon. 370BHp moving 1840 Kilo's, that Super V8 is a Luxury Musclecar. Mine also happen to have the Split rear Electric Seats. It is a Daimler NBW, anybody know what that stands for? The MB, BMW, and Audi are so sterile compared to Jag/Daimler X308. I would never buy me a V12, too heavy, too much maintenance . On the other hand , I have big respect for Mercedes still selling V12 Engine's in their latest Models ! Also , I think a Saloon should have a bigger engine than the 3L Audi V6, these Saloon Car's are made to rev low, while still have enough power. In these Cars one barely uses Sport Mode. At least , where I live , in Holland, max speed limit just went down to 100Km/h, klimatefreak measures.... Next door Germany, they can still drive Max Speed at many Autobahns..... I wanted to ask U polite..if U could display next to MPG , also amount Liter's per 100 Km. Love Your Reviews, also that trip to the USA, showing the NSX, great video's ,Greetings !
You can control virtually everything from the voice control. Radio, Air con, heated seats, phone and satnav. I know this because I have the A6. To complain about the touch screen with so much disdain in the review is a bit of a nonsense . It just means you do not fully understand the car. Seen this in virtually all reviews with touch screen Audi. Obviously people do not really try and use the voice control or read the manual...
The numbering system Audi has started using is silly, implies you have a 5.5 V8 or V10 when you actually have a little V6 and the 60 makes people think there is a W12 under the hood, just stick to the old way so much better.
you think auto break is bad in a car? wait till you see it in a truck! i had a guy go left and i kept going as you do and the truck thought i was gonna delete the poor bastard, so, naturally, it decided to kneel! had loads of fun after trying to figure out what client owns what box of veggies!
Perhaps, but for luxury the Lexus makes this look like a Trabant. Not in dynamics of course, but I find it odd that anyone would buy a car like this for driving fun- if you can afford to buy one of these then you can probably afford something that's a lot more fun to drive (and have £50k left to buy a nearly new S class for the luxury).
In stark contrast to the previous one, this one looks absolutely huge (even though they're probably about the same size). The back actually looks dated, somehow reminds me of the 90s one. The interior is what I'd expect in an A4 - a cheap looking mess of black plastic and screens. I have no idea why anyone would buy this for half the asking price.
6:42 Well done for mentioning people who mindless sit at traffic lights etc with their foot wedged on the brake pedal and blinding people behind. Every moron and his dog does this nowadays - consistent with general selfishness/ignorance.
Some of this is beyond the drivers control as such. My 2019 ford focus company estate has hill hold(which holds for 3 seconds) and a start assist (which holds for ever) both systems ,the car lights up the brake lights even though my foot is not on the brake pedal.
This car is for people with more fame than sense, so much so that all that matters to them is fitting in with other people who stand out. I'll take an Alfaab over this any day of the week.
To say this is top of the luxury from Audi which represents the brand, it looks far too tame, at least Mercedes and BMW go to the extra lengths to make sure you *know* that you're in something special.
Amadeus G do bmw really go that far?? S class meh it’s got more details to set it apart but the quality lacks but bmw is just a higher quality 5 series pretty much.
A great 3 part series!! Lets face it there is only 1 winner and 1 loser for buying these cars in the long term... The winner is the garage you take it to. If you watch the very entertaining 'Hoovies Garage' you get a flavour of BMW ownership, and it's certainly not Belgium Chocolate flavoured. That brings me to the potential loser, and sadly that is the person who buys one of these, you are guaranteed to lose money no matter which one you buy... BUT does the experience make it worth it? That is what you have to ask yourself, so maybe it could be a win if you dont mind the issues that come with these! What would I do? Probably buy a 1500 quid Boxster, so I wouldn't listen to me at all. As several of my friends are very willing to point out, I have the world's worst car history :D
23mpg...you wot? I drive an 8 year old car which weighs 1825kg, so not a whole lot lighter than this thing and they've shoved the 3.5L from the Evora (as seen on this channel) in it as part of a hybrid system which puts out 60bhp more than this and yet I cannot get it under 30mpg even if I've gone out with the sole aim of destroying the rear tyres (on the way to get new ones!). It'll get 50 on a run. It also has parking sensors as standard ☺ Audi seem miles behind everyone else on engine technology at the moment, they can get the power but they use twice as much fuel to do it. Their new diesels are no better- the S6 is the same weight as my car, gets double figures worse MPG and puts out less power. At least the old S and RS models got something out of all the fuel they burned...
“Modern life is rubbish”, or rather “modern car dash controls are rubbish”. It looks like the closer to the present day you get, the uniformly more awful the dash & controls are. So bad that I’ve decided to forgo a 992 911 because the digital black shiny plastic everywhere is actively unpleasant. My wife’s 2017 Evoque, which is an Autobiography 300ps petrol, is for me, peak interiors. Leather everything, proper buttons and dials which are a pleasure to use, analog main instruments but lots of switchable tech displays, a touch screen but it’s not dominant nor does it have scores of submenus. I’ve looked at the Mk2 Evoque and it’s ruled itself out in styling, materials and ergonomics grounds. I can see us holding onto the small Range Rover indefinitely provided it does become unreliable. So far, nothing has gone wrong with it. Of Jay’s three Luxobarges, I’d have the BMW 760iL. Except my garage is probably not long enough for it to accept such a vehicle and allow me to walk around it, which in a generously wide double garage stroke workshop with benches and my vintage bikes, plus household storage in it, is a minimal requirement. I envy people with decent off street parking but it’s my own fault for buying a house so close to a city centre.
That is biblicly awful mpg from the Audi! I have 2.3tonne 3.5 litre v6 petrol engined normally aspirated car and it delivers close on 30mpg. The Audi doesn't look anything special inside. For similar money you could buy a lexus ls600 for ultimate luxury and build that gives away nothing to the Audi. That's what I'd choose.
Love your Chanel and I'm not having a dig at you, but rather Audi and this car, I think it's a pathetic offering! For 90k you don't even get parking sensors? What a joke! Audi just want to Rob you and I can think of a million ways to better spend 90k, and on much better cars, you can get a couple for that. For me it looks very dull, no curves or creases, boring as fook. I wouldn't take this car if it was offered for free! Audi is becoming like Volkswagen, boring electronic cars with no feel and overpriced.
Actually you DO get all round parking sensors and a rear view camera as standard. Pay extra for the 'Comfort & Sound' pack and you get the full 360 degree cameras, B&O sound systems and customisable ambient lighting...
Can you remember dark blue S8 gen one. Amazing. Ronin amazing. Amazing to look at. Drive. Genuinely Lust After Exciting. You just wanted it. This looks like an A6 SE Standard Spec maybe an ultra boring diesel. Dull dull dull. It looks like 38k maybe 42k A6. Why why why with zero excitement buy this at 90k than a nearly new Fast Barge Limo couple years old any german brand a year or 2 old warranty left. It’s an odd one. Don’t even get it as a company write down to lose tax. It’s just so dull. The Lexus LS so much grander and is you just want lose money off company balance sheet has to be spent any other way. Am I missing something ????
This has AUDI BADGE. Is good. Sarcasm aside, yes- you're also missing the fact only a total headcase would buy a car this big and heavy for driving dynamics over luxury. The A8 seems a bad choice.
My daily driver is a 2001 S8 D2 in dark blue - watching this makes me realise how I’ll keep it for many years to come. Quite reliable, no fault codes, simple suspension and high quality. Mpg never really more than 20, but I don’t go far.
Biased is an absolutely terrible thing to have as a car reviewer. Not such a fan of his style. He completely fails to mention the options that can be had on the car and the options that he complains about not being standard on the car but are also options on the competition. Meh review
What is it with todays manufacturers and touch? Might be nice to look at but my good it's anoying to use and the fingerprints.....Especially for stuff like the climate control. I also hate all the autobrakes, anoying beeps and bongs for everything but that's more down to stupid eu regulations so cant blame them on the car producer.
those auto safety features that get it wrong when you are just manoeuvring around traffic. Are a plage of the modern era. I find myself screaming stupid car and turning it off.
I have a Q7 with the same infotainment system and have no issues operating it plus the voice control is excellent and operates most of the key functions. I also have no issue with the safety systems or the hill hold. The only area where I do agree is selecting reverse which can be tricky. Like the extensive comparison on other competitive brands in given segment.
This was a great series. I’ll be looking forward to an S8 review in the future. I hope the V12 BMW doesn’t break.
Agreed, all of the above ☺
But even if the BMW does break.. you can sit and watch the "Theatre" in your driveway - The doors will be nailed closed, the lights will be out, but its still a "theatre". I wonder for how long an inanimate theatre will remain rewarding?
Very enjoyable series, J. Hope you have some more stuff for us coming up - may be difficult under the circumstances. Take care.
At least 4 weeks of content already filmed!
I love the fair-weather windows - Its pissing down outside and wonderfully sunny inside..
In a luxury care superchargers make more sense to me, much smoother power delivery. And the idea just sounds more luxurious to me. Economy cars come with turbo chargers I don't think I see any going with superchargers. Superchargers sound more exclusive to me.
Supercharging is a dying tech unfortunately. Parasitic loss.
Have you driven the new A6? Having driven one around in 40TDI form for a few weeks, I have to question why you’d bother with the A8. It’s a superb car
Only the RS6
I think the current A6 looks far more imposing from the front than this generation of A8 even in cooking 40tdi spec especially as an s line. I know the Germans tend to be generic ish in style but with bmw and benz the bigger and higher end you go the more presence the cars seem to have. This has missed the mark for me style wise. A really great mini series, I'd absolutely love a similar type of series for other classes of car, maybe small sports car, premium estate and all round performance car are topics I'd love to see covered.
Not some peoples cup of tea, but I'd like to see me regular hatchback comparisons too
Enjoyed this mini series...but I still think if you want a sense of occasion then it has to be a Bentley Arnage. Now available for silly money too.
I have owned two Arnage. As you correctly say, a sense of occasion. Every time.
stranded on an airbase in Kandahar. your uploads are keeping me sane mate.
Happy to hear it Malcolm
Hi got 2016, 4.2 tdi does 28 - 33 mpg. lovin it, had it a year now
Ian Hay how reliable has it been?I love those 4.2 TDI powered a8s have insane amount of torque!
Damn Jay, these graphics are pretty dope. Really liking them. 👌
They are all winners compared to public transport !
I dunno, you look like less of a twat in a train than in an A8 when you forgot to spec parking sensors and hit a bollard.
Really handsome car that. Not too over the top, very nice. The only thing I don’t like about the current A8 is the damn lack of physical buttons.
The weight is the thing there. Turbos under load use HUGE amounts of fuel.
You should do review Lexus LS500 (not hybrid).
I think all these cars are nice but I do like the Lexus LS and the Mercedes S class.
People now just coming around to how special the E65/E66 is!
Its dated, like horribly
Hope audi gives you the opportunity to try the new s8. I'm interested to see if it's gonna be a good used bargain in 4 years time
Great little series 👍 I think the 7 series is still my favourite 😁
It's hilarious how much Jay is an Audi Hater. He grasps some of the pointless things to complain, like the leather in the steering wheel. I don't know if the spec of this car is the worst Audi could find. But I've got in S-Class, 7-Series and A8, and the Audi and Mercedes leather quality is miles above the BMW.

Many reviews said new A8 interior quality is even better than the current S class in some places. It looks like you dont have same experience.
Audi has always made quality interiors from other brands. While Mercedes and BMW are paying more attention to the appearance, Audi has always chosen better quality materials and kept the workmanship in the top class.
Is that the base car before you pick any options? 2:09
Audi is notoriously for placing everything as an option..when fully optioned out it betters the other two germans in my opinion.
JayEmm on Quarantine
I feel like he's focusing on how the A8 is not sporty enough and drives it on back roads talking about the driving dynamics it might not have but I feel that is not the purpose of an A8. Should talk about other features of the car as well
If I owned that I’d need to wear a Michael Jackson glove to keep the screen spotless
Rather have a 7 series or an s class in this category. They seem more special
Harry always 🙆🏽♂️
A8 is much more sportier and reliable than others. Look at A8 d2 or D3, how they is much more present on the streets and looks much more better.
For me I do not like the styling of the Audi and its a lot of money, the BMW technically superb, I could not live with the Bangle design, so is it the Mercedes? yes but not that vintage, I would look to spend 10-15k on a newer model.
I found a 2017 S500 a bit boring, I can't imagine how boring I'd find this A8
if you want fun and a full size limousine , you either go balls to the wall (s63, s8, m760) or you go home.
Why do you think raising and lowering the car is so important? I have that feature on my Lexus LS460 and other than checking that it works I don't think I have ever used it. What do you feel I am missing? Thanks!
I swaer noone is complaining that much like this guy.
Most of the other comments are.
The thing is Audi knows the A8 is worth half its RRP after 12 months, not far off that at 6 months. The difference between a late new A6 or A8 is minimal.
The GPF won't be helping fuel consumption, though it won't have much of an impact really.

In the rule of two

Would take an S Class over this anyday, much more luxurious and classy. This just like an A6.
The current S Class is Baroque. This is Bauhaus.
Baroque for me
S class is opulent and sometimes like for russian mafia...
Felice Graziano Well said,Bauhaus for me.I love Audi’s subtle classy looks and quality.
The S class has dated interior/ controls and drives like a barge. If you want to be chauffeured though it's a great choice.
you think auto break is bad in a car? wait till you see it in a truck! i had a guy go left and i kept going as you do and the truck thought i was gonna delete the poor bastard, so, naturally, it decided to kneel! had loads of fun after trying to figure out what client owns what box of veggies!
This car is proof that Lexus has a serious rival in the 'who can make the ugliest luxo barge' competition.
BMW "The 7*" has entered the chat.
*who needs brand identity if you have a gigantic grill anyway?
Perhaps, but for luxury the Lexus makes this look like a Trabant. Not in dynamics of course, but I find it odd that anyone would buy a car like this for driving fun- if you can afford to buy one of these then you can probably afford something that's a lot more fun to drive (and have £50k left to buy a nearly new S class for the luxury).

This car is for people with more fame than sense, so much so that all that matters to them is fitting in with other people who stand out. I'll take an Alfaab over this any day of the week.
If you gave way @6.55 you wouldn't have issues with crash detection...
the merc is a blast from the past, the beemer a technobarge, and the A8, plastic fantastic, the beemer`s my winner thru my eyes....................
To say this is top of the luxury from Audi which represents the brand, it looks far too tame, at least Mercedes and BMW go to the extra lengths to make sure you *know* that you're in something special.

Crazy how audi is selling these cars without leather...
THE A8 IS ARGUABLY THE BEST CAR IN THE WORLD. THIS GUY TALKS LIKE IT'S A PIECE OF CHIT. THEN HE DRIVES HOME IN HI SONATA. I'LL KEEP MY 2019 A8L
Where do you see most #Audi's these days ! Council estates ! Don't see many #Tesla on council estates do you! Want to be exclusive !
😂😂😂 I agree with the audis but tesla doesnt give a great image ether
If only this car had #Tesla P100DL running gear ! Gearbox ! What gearbox !
Biased is an absolutely terrible thing to have as a car reviewer. Not such a fan of his style. He completely fails to mention the options that can be had on the car and the options that he complains about not being standard on the car but are also options on the competition. Meh review
Second
What is it with todays manufacturers and touch? Might be nice to look at but my good it's anoying to use and the fingerprints.....Especially for stuff like the climate control.
I also hate all the autobrakes, anoying beeps and bongs for everything but that's more down to stupid eu regulations so cant blame them on the car producer.
Such a boring looking car considering the price. Not sure if it's the colour but it looks very staid.
those auto safety features that get it wrong when you are just manoeuvring around traffic. Are a plage of the modern era. I find myself screaming stupid car and turning it off.
That’s the point. Not everyone needs a shouty mcshoutface car.
Jabber 1974 nobody needs this Audi either
Automotive blandness personified.
SQ7 better choice,
SUV mania 🤮
Only one in this car review....must be the loser?
Audis cant match merc bmw or even lexus they are just posh passats 😂
Yeah, not really. Audi is far better.
bmw biased as always this guy...
A hard pass for me,, VAG are dead to me.
