Borla sounds a lot more refined & clean. Still rumbling and intimidating. Flowmasters sounds like refined but more rowdy & old school. Borla wins for me.
It's mostly kids that like stuff to be loud. The only Flowmaster sounds good to me is the 50 but the Flowmasters don't flow good. How about a 10-second streetcar since the 80s. I love up and headers at the track but almost putting up with the quietest Mufflers I can they're smooth when my motor cracks 7000 rpm I want to hear a motor growling and not some cowboys truck popping.
6 speed Magnum is in and had my 1st test drive. Wow, this trans is solid compared to my old Richmond 6 speed. Looking forward to making a few drive by videos for the sound of the mufflers!
Great video and I loved your car! I have a. 68 Camaro with a 454 that I’m trying to figure out what exhaust to through in. Going headers back so feel free to make a recommendation
Borla’s hands down even sounds better than flowmaster. I switched to the pro XS because of the flowmaster drone never going back great choice of mufflers!! 💯
Hey J, thanks for the feedback. For sure they are both different and have their pluses and drawbacks. Interesting the Borla's seem to be wearing in and the tone is a bit different now. The drone was the main reason for the switch. Since the design is strait through I might have to get rid of my turn downs and have a strait exit as the dust kicking up is a bit much.
@@jstrick9530 Hey J, I will do that! Right now I'm swapping to a new T-56 magnum so I should be on the road in a few weeks. I'm having to do the work on jack stands so it might take me a few weekends once I get the trans next week.
I had Super 44's behind my 509, was never a fan of the hollow sound. replaced them with the Borla ProXS and it's a night and day difference. I'm super happy with them. about to be taking it to the exhaust shop and getting some Vibrant ultra quiet resonators added, since I still have some drone in my Chevelle, but witht eh TKX it's easy to drive around for now.
This video is a big help. I also have a 69 that is currently running a tired 396 with flowmasters…they are a bit much. Soon I am dropping in a 496 with a Sniper system and a TKX. Based on this video I am definitely leaning Borla. Just curious, have you considered Magnaflow?
Just blew up my muffler last night. Similar setup as you. 454/th400 fitech in my 73 nova with swapped front end. Do you have the transverse or the dual exhaust
I would go with the borla pro XS Infact I'd choose the pro XS over the stingers, S type. The flowmasters sound great but it's a little to canny, and raw sounding. I don't care for the exhaust to be loud, I know most car enthusiast like that. I just want the exhaust to be noticeable, smooth and clean. The pro XS doesn't have the slightest sound of tininess, or that in a can sound.
TY for taking the time to put this together, bought some Borla Pro XS today because of this.
Borla sounds a lot more refined & clean. Still rumbling and intimidating. Flowmasters sounds like refined but more rowdy & old school. Borla wins for me.
They both sound good but for some reason I still like flowmasters on a big block muscle car! Borla definitely sounds badass too!
Agreed

Borla Pro XS. Hands Down!

Borla for win 🏆
Definitely Borla!! Wayyyy better sound. Flowmaster sounds like a fart in a hollow metal hallway
Yeah, that is a common complaint of the FM. The BorlaXS is a bit louder at times, but defiantly less of a drone.
Dynomax bullets sound unreal on a big block
Exhaust sounds good but car is gorgeous man
BORLA 🏁🏁🏁

@@Anthony-df1vh do an updated vid as the mufflers breaking in

@@Anthony-df1vh how has the sound changed after break in?
@@nashvilleoutlaw I'm not noticing a big change. Maybe because it is almost a strait through design the packing is not getting blow out.
This is SPOT on comparison between my 396 big block chevelle's exhaust as well. Same 40's and pro xs's. Borla ftw!
is it 3inches all the way back or just the tips? what is all down to the motor? can you make more videos? it sounds great subscribed!
Thanks. This video helped me choose. Had the flowmasters already. Needed a little quieter. Have cutouts if I need more noise lol
Borla. Sounds better
Thanks for the feed back! This weekend the t-56 goes in so I hope to have a follow up video.

How did the resonators turn out?
@@nashvilleoutlaw haven’t gotten around to doing. Installed a Terminator X on it instead and have been spending too much time driving it.

Is this SoCal :) Maybe LB
Flowmaster all the way

Dual exhaust. I have no room for a transverse muffler.
The pro xs to me just has that old school snarl to them. Like a more refined version of the old chamber sticks
Man that's a tough one
I think flowmasters sound good on big displacement engines with bigger cams, otherwise they just sound hollow and weird.
Flowmasters sound great at idle. Go drive them on the highway at 3000 rpm and you'll hate them.
Flowmaster 40 sound good at idle but horrible when you give it throttle. The Borla XS Pro wins this battle easily.
Nice Camaro but showing and not going next time take us for a ride.
Good idea!
