- Comparing hot idle and hard acceleration on my 1983 C10 with my older setup of dual Flowmaster 40 series and my new setup of Dual Borla Pro XS.
Both setups are Long tube headers with 2.5” exhaust bike back to true dual exhaust dumped before the rear axle.

I had a Borla on my truck when I did construction. Going from site to site @5:00AM driving through the French Quarter every day, sounded amazing!
Need to get a video of that!
Already putting Pro XSs on my rig (having them installed over the weekend), but you confirmed that they can be acceptably quiet when you want and louder when you don't. Thanks for the video...!
Five Boro Native i think you’ll be happy with them. I plan on running them on my current build as well. Thanks for the support!
Matt Damon!
Team America haha
I’m like a fat Matt Damon now
O yes jaaaaaaaa
I need a sweet billet mirror. 👍🏻 Thanks for the video. I’ve got Flowmaster 40 series on a 55 Chevy but was considering making a change to Borla just to be able to have a conversation in the car. This video pretty much made up my mind. Thanks again!
Meatball The Cat I will never run another Flowmaster after having the Borla’s on there. Night and day difference as far as the drone and vibration the flows use to cause.
lol " dont take my advice unless your REALLY desperate " I need a T-shirt that says that, asap.
Apparently I stole that from another RUclipsr. I quit using it out of respect.
Putting these on my Big block Chrysler 361, so excited!
EDIT: The Borla pro XS muffler on the car almost sounds straight piped, After i installed the muffler, there was some drone and rasp control.
Borla is my go to for performance a muffler.
Good videoZach 👍... I'm over 50 years of age with a 96 WS6 383... I'm not ready to stop disturbing the piece yet 😁... Badass truck by the way 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
The Borlas still have a mean growl when you get on it. I’ll be going even quieter on my new build. Going to go with a 18” magnaflow
@@3rdGenC10s I look forward to your new videos keep working on them brother 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I need that billet mirror for my c-10 im redoing thats why im watching your exhaust videos!!! Well done son!!!!!
That thing was gave away years ago lol
The Borla sounds better in my opinion, even if it is quieter. Maybe deeper too as well.
EJ102 I completely agree, I’ll be running the Borlas on my ls swapped 2wd k5 when I get it to the point of needing an exhaust. Thanks for the support!
Great video I think Go with the Borla as well
Shawn Myers thank you sir. I’ll be running the Borlas on my 2wd K5 build as well.
Es correcto! !
No comparison. Louder isn’t always better. The Borla Pro XS is the best sounding and quality budget muffler you can buy.
Borla all the way.
Making them come out the back would definitely quiet it down inside the cab
Magic Toaster yes sir. That was the original plan, but my wife surprised me with having them put on and he just dumped them like the old exhaust that was on it.
Borla all the way
I would agree!
Did you notice any difference in power. I have a 67 Buick with duals and Flowmaster 40s. Was there any weight savings with the Borla.
No noticeable power or weight savings.
Nice comparison! Thanks.
Yes sir,
Flowmaster for life!!!💪💪💪💪
I must be getting to old, I like something quieter now.
@@3rdGenC10s nooooo don't do it!!🤣🤣🤣
Nice Truck
Thanks man
Man I’ve got Doug’s long tube part# D310 on my ‘86 with 2.5” Black Widows ran all the way out the back curved down behind the back tires.., I’m close to having to wear ear plugs especially when you stomp it.
Loud clap kinda sound till after the stall kicks in.
Are these the Borla Pro XS, or XR 1’s?
I don’t know which way to go anymore, and I’d like to stay away from flowmasters too, I’ve run them for 20 years and just about tired of those I know that.
I don’t care about the neighbors or anything, but it’d be nice not to almost need a set of ear plugs in it and be able to talk.
You have to holler to talk out of the truck when you’re behind it idling lol..
I’m thinking about doing a H Pipe, it may tone it down some, but I’m sure will still be too much.
New Sub by the way 👍🏼👍🏼
On my ls swapped K5 I went with speed engineering shorty headers into a y pipe and a stock replacement muffler for a 5.3 it is whisper quiet, perfect for cruising and talking 😂
Great switch chokemaster 40 series are to restricted not a good flowing muffler for performance setups straight through exhaust are the way to go specially 3" in diameter
No more flowmasters for me.
@@3rdGenC10s straight through is the way to go
@@benjaminalmendarez3059 I plan or running either Borla or Magnaflow from now on.
Open headers would make it alot easier to talk to you're wife 😳🤔😂😂😂
Borla 👍🏼👍🏼
I agree
The first thing I do to a car or truck is remove those rusty chambered Flowmasters and replace them with a complete mandrel bent stainless exhaust with Borla straight through mufflers. Borla mufflers have a deep even tone unlike Flowmasters that have a drone at a certain rpm. There is no way anyone can ever convince me that a Flowmaster with it's unpredictable chambers could be a tuned muffler. A straight through design is much more predictable and sounds much better. That drone at about 2200 to 3000 rpm proves that a Flowmaster doesn't work throughout the rpm range of any motor. I have seen too many perfect stainless exhaust systems ruined with those rusty Flowmasters. But it's your vehicle and your money.
The Borla replaced the flowmasters.
What is that idle noise called I can hear inside your car while you are talking in the beginning? It souds very metallic.. I have this noise on my coupe when I straight pipe or have a freeflowing muffler. Usually most trucks have this idle noise but I didn't want it on my coupe.
Man I’m not sure which sound you are talking about.
@@3rdGenC10s sorry my description kind of sucks. But it kind of sounds like a constant “glugluglugluglug”.
Lope?
@@3rdGenC10s yes I just googled it. I think it’s the cam noise. Most people love this sound I just don’t want it on my coupe.
Will this Borla exhaust be good with ktuned headers with just straight pipe? Its gonna be on a Honda civic with a jdm K24a. I currently have it straight piped with an Amazon muffler. To loud!
Rovil Florencio Im running long tubes and straight piped back to the Borla a on my SBC, I can’t tell you what it would sound like on a K24a. You could always run resonators as well to help quiet it down.
@@3rdGenC10s yeah I figured, thanks man! 🙏
it may be louder and call me crazy but it seemed like the 40 series gave you better acceleration imo
I’m not concerned with anything other then a quieter sound than the 40 series
@@3rdGenC10s I understand. We just giving you my opinion I care more about performance even if it's one pony LOL
Just saw a video of a chevelle going 2 or 3 tenths faster in the 1/4 mile after swapping his hooker aerochambers ( which have been tested and shown to flow extremely well)to the borla pro xs mufflers. No other mods.. They are true straight through design. In the process of having them installed as well👍
Sounds good. What seats and console do you have in there?
Adam Smith the buckets are TMI brand and the console is out of a 2015 Silverado.
Idle flowmaster win
At WOT borla win
Borla all the way for me
Any torque/hp loss at all with the Borla Pro XS mufflers? Thank you for the response!
None noticeable, it’s also a bone stock SBC 350.
Flowmasters are actually worse for power loss
I’m unconcerned with power loss or gain at this point in my life 😂 I’m all about quiet cruising lol
I know this is a two year old vid but... i know for a fact if you ran tail pipes out the back with the Flowmasters it would knock down the drone quite a bit. I run nothing but chambered mufflers, from a ELCO with small block, headers and single chambers, my 07 sierra with a black widow angry housewife, my 94 silverado with no cat and a flowmaster super 10, and a 95 suburban with 454 no cat and a flowmaster 3 chamber, every one of them have tail pipes, no drone at all.
The Flowmaster scare long gone on that pickup, nowadays I run stock replacement for the quietest ride possible.
@@3rdGenC10s Gay😂
Gotta keep the wife happy
you have a headers with the borla ?
Yes sir longtubes.
Chris Pine doing Muffler reviews now?
Movie career has been slow with the pandemic.
You made a good choice, dronemasters get old, I had the 40 and then super 10 both awful
Plan on running Borla on my Ls swapped 2wd k5 as well.
@@3rdGenC10s good idea, I just ordered the borla single touring exhaust for my 05 silverado, the flowmaster drives me nuts at 65mph to 80
@@matthewmichael214 I’ll be running shorty headers a ypipe into a resonator then into the Borla and the tip will come out behind the passenger tire. I’m hoping to make the Borla as quiet as possible.
@@3rdGenC10s it's worth every penny
I’d have to agree.
Are you in north west ok?
Western Oklahoma
Do these work on a crown vic
Thomas Sheehan yes sir, the exhaust may sound different with the crown vics engine. I’m sure you could find an exact video of the exhaust on a crown Vic to get an idea of what it will sound like.
flowmasters SUCK! The Borlas sound great! Rock on!
I’d have to agree!

I get that a lot

👍🏼
I’ll need you to do a magna flow test as well sir 😜
David Watson my 87 has magnaflows on it lol I can get it done 👍🏼
Zach Musgrove heck yeah my friend!!
That's what I'm trying to decide between for my CJ5, Borlas or magnaflows, was all set to get the magnaflows but the shop I was going to have it done at kinda pissed me off so I'm just going to put them on myself but now am leaning towards the Borlas.
ruclips.net/video/eFjgMFopTGE/видео.html
Put neighbor haters lol
At 30 quiet is all I care about 😂
Get Flowmaster super 10
I have neither of those on my pickup anymore. Ended up running a stock replacement muffler in the end to quiet everything down.
Thanks my 40 series are bugging my neighbors
I know what that is like 😂 I would recommend going with a magnaflow id you are looking for something much quieter.
@@3rdGenC10s I was thinking of the long bodied borla. I don't want it too quiet. But don't want the 40 series drone on the inside
I love my Borlas, they are a little loud on cold start but once the engine is warm they are pretty quiet at idle. You could always run a resonator in front of them as well.
