    Rest in peace William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist is one of the greatest horror films ever made, and it's all thanks to your novel. The power of Christ compels you!

    As a HUGE fan of Blatty (writing and the person), I miss this man. The world just isn't quite the same since he left it. What makes him so special, for me, is he wrote some of the scariest stuff but he wasn't a strict horror writer/guy. He also had wit and an amazing sense of humor. I've read most of his work and I literally would "lol" while reading his books. He had a tone (in writing and speaking) that was incomparable (again - TO ME, because we all know art is subjective) and it was just as entertaining listening to him read his books as it was on page. I really enjoyed this interview and am grateful you shared it with us. Thank you!

      Thank you so much. It’s comments like yours that make it worth it. I am a big fan of Blatty as well and loved his writing and direction when he finally got to make an ‘Exorcist’ film in his true vision.

      Agreed: Likable and thoughtful/profound. It is interesting that he was well known and respected for comedy. He was a 60s COMEDY writer (depending on your age you may remember Goldfarb, The Great Bank Robbery, Promise her Anything....-I barely do.). At the same time he personally had deep existential conflict and questions on the nature of the concepts of faith, God, evil and their manifestations. He alludes to this in an interview during a short about the making of Exorcist III (aka Exorcist 1990, adaptation of the book Legion). (the short is here on youtube.) His personal contemplations, and his unemployment, led him to research exorcism. This resulted in The Exorcist. He describes Legion as the writing where he ultimately found a measure of ground; a sorting out of his sense of man's place among the Good/Evil God/Devil dichotomies. I see something new each time I watch Exorcist III. Now I plan on reading the book Legion to hear more of his philosophy.

    • @SomaJuliusCruz
      @SomaJuliusCruz 8 лет назад +1

      ***** Yeah he does and yeah Exorcist 3 is a damm good movie. The studio forced Blatty to add an exorcism at the end of the movie which feels incredibly tacked on and he also had to tinker with some of the scenes etc but even with that the movie is really good. Just goes to show you the strength of the source material.

    Blatty's The Exorcist III is horrible. As bad as II, or even worse (that "scissors scene" is insanely bad).
    The first Exorcist was a fluke for Blatty (mainly because Friedkin is simply a good director).
